Pretty much anything from 5fdp. I can’t really say that they aren’t talented because they can play, it’s just that they don’t really do anything interesting or exciting with their songwriting or musical ideas (to me). One of the reasons I love Slipknot is because I can see them branch out into other styles and keep it relatively interesting. I am a big fan of vol. 3 and their last album WANYK because they had the confidence to write different sounding songs like “spiders” or “my pain” and still have heavier sounding material like “orphan” and “solway firth” and “not long for this world”. Even though they might not always hit the nail on the head or execute it perfectly, they still have an interest in not trying to remain stagnant and repetitive. And for that I can at least respect their efforts But bands like 5fdp and disturbed and six feet under just stay in their lane and all of their stuff is really interchangeable and not very distinct. I just don’t really get anything out of it personally. No hate to anyone who does. (Also thank you guys for introducing me to Temple of Void, been jamming that recently)

Bite the Snake 4. As the Demon Dances Under the Blood Red Sky 5. Dying to See You 6. Fuck in the Fire 7. Killing You Softly 8. Not to be an elitist but, really? Psycho Sinner? I didn’t know that band had actual fans. Who the hell releases 9 albums on the same day? As for BFMV, they are as generic as metalcore comes. And that barely had any metalcore elements.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your choice of Diabolus. Maybe it's because I discovered slayer before I learned to be very discerning and had just come off of my nu metal phase but i thought it was good. Definitely not their best but I dont get the comments about the lack of urgency and energy (Scrum?, Point?) It even opens up with Bitter Peace which is a ripping thrasher if I've ever heard one. I've always looked at this record as Slayer showing the world what nu metal could sound like if it were actually good. Spot on with all the others though.

Necrotic Nick- Strangely enough, I was in my nu metal phase when I got Diabolus but that wasn't what I wanted from Slayer. I wanted that hyper aggressive fast sound again because that was kinda my escape from a lot of the more groove centric metal that was out then. Bitter Peace is a banger and Scrum and Point are decent but the rest of it is a really lackluster listen. It just felt like all the energy had left the band for the most part and they'd been bucking trends for years but here they were settling in one. Yeah, it's still not for me.
@homunculusprime6473 жыл бұрын
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah, I suppose in light of some of the other songs on the record I can see your point though I do really like Stain of Mind. I don't have any metal friends so your content is quite refreshing. Keep it up!
@carlosjantarada72123 жыл бұрын
I agree. More than Nu Metal I think many of the tracks there are hard core inspired (lots of Biohazard influences especially on Stain Of Mind, Love To Hate, Wicked and Screaming From The Sky). On the other hand there's a couple of Nu Metal drum lines here and there (Death's Head is a blatant example although I kinda like the song) and others that mix some of the whispered intros with some elements of Divine Intervention (namely Desire and Overt Enemy). Other than that the remainder is pretty much in Divine's vein with In The Name Of God, Point and Scrum being cool enough songs as far as I'm concerned. Then there's Bitter Peace and man... this song wrecks everything in it's path. After the intro this is pristine top notch Seasons In The Abyss like Slayer and has a place in my band's top ten songs. So do I think Diabolus is a great album?... well not quite. IMO it lacks some consistency and there are too many songs I regard as fillers rendering it a bit uneven. On the other hand it features some great moments here and there, the Hard Core influence does not shock me and to be fair Slayer was the band that changed the least during the 90's from the so called big 4. IMO God Hates Us All (with the exception of Disciple, New Faith and Payback - all good songs) sounds way more Nu Metal to me (plus I really dislike its guitar sound) and apart from the songs I mentioned is absolutely dull. Not to mention Repentless that IMO is a void of ideas and a drag to listen for more than a couple of songs. But even those two albums aren't garbage per se. Only drop dead boring.

Extreme Metal is far too abrasive for me, I respect it but it’s not for me. You probably wouldn’t like a lot of Nu-Metal that i like as I like the more Rap or Latin influenced stuff, but tbh Nu-Metal made its own fanbase that weren’t Metal fans or even Rap fans, I wasn’t a Metal or a Rap fan but I’ve grown to have a huge respect for Metal and Rap (good 90’s Rap that is, not the modern shit). Disagree about *most* of their albums being samey, each album had a pretty definitive identity down to Twilight..., but afterwards it did get a bit repetitive. I know it's disqualified but St. Anger..........with the exception of the singles, I never listened to it due to reputation. On January 11th 2019 (a day that shall live in infamy) I ordered the CD from Amazon to complete the discography, downloaded the digital copy, and proceeded to listen to it all in one sitting. Now, I have amassed a fairly substantial music library over the last few decades and have purchased more than my fair share of bowl swirlers in that time but I swear to all that is unholy, not one of them made me as angry to listen to as St. Trashcanlid. I still have PTSD from the snare that Lars pounds relentlessly, the horrible vocals that an overly verbose Hetfield unleashes without tonal regard, song structures that were so repetitious I ran out of hair on my head to pull out and started working on my face, and the production........Christ almighty. Granted I haven't listened to many albums on this list but some I have and not one of them, not one, has ever made me both angry and fatigued to anywhere near that degree. I was hopeful that it wasn't as bad as people said but I was wrong, so very very wrong. I would rather listen to FFDP's entire discography than sit through that ever again and trust me when I say, that means a lot. But sure I get why many people dislike siren charms, when I listened to it for the first time, I also felt like "wtf? This is kinda weird" but it grew on me by time. I also like "diabolus in musica" by Slayer, sure not one of their best albums, but not as bad as "undisputed attitude"
@thrallsofmetal3 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- While I appreciate both In Flames and Grave's earlier works (actually a pretty fair amount of Grave recent stuff too) both of those really missed for me. Hating Life sounded like a completely different band and just turned their sound into kinda faceless groove metal and In Flames essentially was a different band at that point. After Jesper left the fold the quality of the releases from In Flames really dropped for me and as many times as I've tried to give Siren Charms a chance it's still not my thing. With Slayer, at least Undisputed Attitude was just a cover album minus the abysmal Gemini, but Diabolus was all their writing. As a punk fan I can at least appreciate those covers for what they are.

I personally think Slayer trying something different kind of worked,but am I saying I thought it was a perfect album, absolutely not. There are three songs on there I can't stand, Overt Enemy,Desire, and Wicked,three of Slayer's worst songs ever created. But overall I kind of enjoyed it,I can totally get why most people hate it,I mean it's Death Metal Icons trying a different genre,so I knew it wouldn't be well received at all. My favorite songs on the Album are the more Thrasy sounding songs,like the second track. Again,great video!

Cancer's 4th album "Black Faith". It's a decent hard rock album but HOLY SHIT...far cry from the Cancer of "Death Shall Rise". Just disappointing. Heck, drummer Carl Stokes daughter online told me she thinks that album sucks compared to the others. "Sorry dad, but that album blows". Hahaha. Newest Cancer album though, a nice return to form and the best since "Sins of Mankind". Also, Morgoth "Feel Sorry For The Frantic".

Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I don’t own that one but I’ve jammed it years ago just to hear it and wow… pretty rough. Pretty rough when even your own daughter won’t defend it but Cancer has some flat out classics though and the newest one was pretty solid. I thought about throwing that Morgoth album in but I already had my 10 together at that point. That album is pretty bad though.

1:20 I think Illuminum Anus is possibly one of the few albums out there that surpasses St.Anger in sheer awfulness.

thank you for keeping your political opinions to yourself and just talking about the music appreciate it brotha

Necrotic Nick- Politics and metal often intersect and most people know how I feel about stuff so I don’t feel the need to go in depth there.

Never understood all the hate towards Diabolus. I guess if you like their 80s stuff, then sure, but I grew up in the era of Divine Intervention (their best album in my book), so Diabolus really felt like their Roots or their Demanufacture--a change and an evolution of the band's sound.

Btw, did Celtic Frost's Prototype come into the running at all? Or is that unfair, as it was a demo?
@thrallsofmetal3 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I suppose a demo could be included but I don't own that one or Cold Lake so I didn't include them. Prototype is hot trash though.

The moment the first album Haunted came out I was disappointed.

I used to lie to myself and try to make myself believe I liked the terrible CDs I sometimes bought. The Slayer and Grave ones on your list were day of release purchases for me but yeah, they're terrible. The nu metal era was a whole other story where I knew I hated almost everything popular at the time but I pretended for a while. What broke me of that was going to Ozzfest and hating System of a Down and Limp Bizkit with every ounce of my being (their fans were loathsome too, lol). I'm so glad that era is long gone.

Would disagree on Morbid, the I album is way better than Formulas, Heretic or the newer one for the simple fact Evil D is on it. Will instead put Exodus's Force Of Habit, or as I like to call it Exodus In Chains :)

I refuse to listen to Divinum Insanus. I hold the first 3 Morbid Angel albums in such high regard. I won't do it haha! I own every album by Priest including the Ripper era ones, but Nostradamus. Rock operas are not my thing and I definitely don't want to hear Priest doing one. Man In Flames lost me a long time ago. Probably around Re route and Soundtrack. Those were the last albums I bought by them. It's really sad what has happened to that band.
@thrallsofmetal3 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- If you've made it this far without listening to that garbage ass album then keep that streak alive, bro! lol. Yeah, Nostradamus was just an ill conceived idea and the wrong way to follow up a nice comeback album. In Flames started losing me around A Sense of Purpose. I may have held on too long when it came down to that band though.

Being a old school Swedish death metal fan the grave album was a huge disappointment The slayer one has a couple of good tracks like perversions of pain and love to hate which reminds a it of south of heaven definitely not there best work but I wouldn't put in the same category as the rest of those piles of shit
