The Thrapston Viaduct is returning back to nature. No longer a busy railway connecting Kettering to Huntingdon as it once was.
The Kettering, Thrapston and Huntingdon Railway was an English railway line opened throughout in 1866. It connected the Midland Railway main line at Kettering to ironstone deposits to the south-east of the town, as well as opening up the agricultural district around Thrapston and reaching the regional centre of Huntingdon. The hoped-for expansion of agricultural was limited and local traffic did not develop; at the same time the difficult alignment and gradients of the line discouraged heavy use as a through line. A basic passenger service operated through from Kettering to Cambridge, by using running powers east of Huntingdon via St Ives.
Although some munitions traffic during World War II enhanced the value of the line temporarily, it declined steeply after 1945 and passenger services were withdrawn in 1959. When the iron ore workings diminished too, the line was cut back in 1963 to serve only the remaining Twywell site. That activity too finished in 1971, resulting in total closure.
Equipment used: DJI Mavic 2 Pro
DJI Osmo Pocket

Beautiful old bridge, it's hard to imagine that every single brick was at some point in the hands of different people, from those who collected the clay, to those who molded and baked them, to those who transported them, to the people who laid them. Then there's the thousands, maybe millions of tons of iron ore they carried over the years. Your drone doing what they do best, showing the scenery that you just don't see from the ground. The music is just gorgeous. Very professional stuff, nice one Kim.

Hey there John, and a big thank you for popping over to my channel and showing your support. It is remarkable how these old structures still stand without any repairs etc. Built to last I guess. Love your comments John and perfectly described too. Thank you so much for your support my friend. Hope your well. I see you have a couple of new video's out so I will be checking them out later today. Take care and have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend.😉👍👍👍👍👍

Wow, Kim, excellent intro loved your faded walk-in! Thank you for another outstanding video history lesson. The Thrapston Viaduct is a stunning piece of architectural history in the UK. The aerial footage of the Viaduct is stunning along with your choice of soundtrack throughout the video. I truly appreciate the way this historical structure is being used as a walkway for people to use and to learn the history behind this structure. Again, my thanks, Well Done!

Hello Steve, Hope your keeping well. So pleased you popped by to my channel and as always show your support. I am pleased you enjoyed the video. It was in need of some clearing as this is a beautiful walk. It is sad that the local authorities don't support these wonderful structures as it is after all our history. You take care Steve and hope you have a super weekend. Happy flying..😉👍👍👍👍👍👍

Really fascinating history Kim. It made me think that in 100 years someone may be talking about the motorways (freeways as we call them in the US) in the same way. I suspect our hobby drones may be a precursor to transportation of the future.

Sorry I’ve been having family problems that have been keeping me out of town for such long periods of time. I’ve tried looking you up off and on but I kept getting everything else and I got frustrated, I’m so glad I caught this notification on this wonderful video of the railroad viaduct. It’s very nice that it’s still standing but I would hope that they would keep it in better condition to walk. Again you do excellent work filming your subjects. I always love watching your videos immensely and this being about an old railroad really had me watching intensely. Thanks for sharing your awesome views in your fantastic video :-))

Toe is coming on a treat thanks, still hurts a fair bit but nothing like it did. From what I can remember I think the Royal coaches were maintained at Wolverton. The site is tiny compared to what it used to be back in the 80's. Huge employer back then, most of the lads I went to school with ended up there doing an apprenticeship with BR, sparkies, chippies, engineering, upholstery...you name it it they did it. Have a fab weekend and I look forward to seeing some more videos. Take care my friend :)

Hey there Bertil, thank you for popping over and giving me your support. Indeed your quite right to ask that question. A lovely area which would be safe for kids due to the high wall. From what I can gather the viaduct is currently under ownership sponsors and until they decide what to do after the hand over nothing is going to be done which is a shame. Hopefully the people who own the rivers who are tendering for the Viaduct will transform it into a public cycle and walk way. Hope you had a nice break... The life of a retiree lol 😉👍👍👍👍👍👍
