His departure from Napalm Death affected the band quite significantly, although the other guys always behaved like if nothing really happened. They were always reluctant to say why he left. Same after Mitch left. Shane says it's not fans' business why musicians leave this band, which I can't really agree with. They're not totally private persons. The reason why we are fans is those musicians - and if they leave, it naturally raises questions among fans. If you love something/someone and it/they disappear, you want to know what happened.
