I've watched many bonsai videos in the last 24 hours and i love how you don't take yourself so seriously. Thank you. Informative too.

What's your opinion on if I was to drill half way though the trunk on my ficus retusa. .cut branch off on upper part of the tree to graft some lower branch's. ..thanks

Sure...I've never done it but I think there are KZbin videos on that technique. Good luck!

Sorry, I gave it away and the new owner didn't water it and it died. Oh well...it was beautiful for a while...kinda like people.

The grafted ficus bonsai @ Walmart have big cracks from where the branches where grafted on & big stumps where the old main branch was cut off. If I buy one, do I have to worry about fungus making those spots rot?? (I don't even care about the scars in the bark being "ugly" - I just worry about the tree getting fungus & maybe even dying - where I live in Gainesville, FL there seems to be a lot of fungus.)

Sorry it took three years to get back to you! Don't think I've ever read the comments on my channel. Don't worry about fungus...the nice thing about Ficus is it's almost as indestructible as Bougainvillea. When I get fungus or "sooty mold," I just spray it with anti-fungal from Home Depot.

Sorry it took five years to reply. At my age I'm surprised and happy just to still be alive and doing bonsai. No, I don't think you need to worry about grafted ficus bumps, lumps, or scars. Personally, I think they give it that "worldly and weathered look" like me. If you're worried about fungus just apply some fungicide to wherever there's an opening or crack in the bark. Ficus is VERY hardy and one of my favorite plant materials. Thanks for watching my channel. I do this for a hobby, not for $$$. I'm 76 and just want to leave this world laughing. BTW, take a look at some of my other videos, I'm doing Coconut Bonsai now. I learned from watching KZbin. Bye.

Thank you for your request. I'll try. I'm impressed that my video is being seen all the way around the world. Bonsai is my hobby, not my business. I post videos once in awhile. In fact I just answered someone who posted a question FIVE YEARS ago. Now that I'm pushing 80 I guess I'd better check my channel more frequently.

Done! Thanks for asking. Now I know how to add translation to my videos!
