@mirandabone No I didn't! He is on our gallery wall! Notice I used the underside of the box and not the top. Also, It was scrap fabric from the beginning and the pieces I cut off from that step are now still big enough to use for something else.

@fashionlover3 It's actually more of a crafting glue. Their fabric glue is usually clear in my experience.

@PTuinman It is a lot like the mad hatter tut but this answers sooooo many people's questions about how to make the fabric smooth on the main part of the hat. Also the brim piece is done differently. An upgraded version for sure:)

I almost never consider glue to be a reasonable method for making things. You guys on the other hand have shown me that there are a ton of uses for it, and I am super excited to get my glue on... everything. I really like the way this hat turned out, another great little vid from the threadbangers group.

THANK YOU!!! This is the exact type of "DIY tiny top hat" video I was looking for! I looked at so many other videos that were way too crafty looking, required way too many weird supplies, or already started with a hat from a store! But this video is perfect - and the process leaves so much room to experiment with different shapes and designs. Again: THANKS! :)

OMG, this is exactly what my daughter wants to wear - we saw something similar at Disney for the Mad Hatter, I can't tell you how excited I am to find this and so much more simpler then I thought. Thanks. Definite thumbs up!

Cool! I made one with an extra-wide brim so I could turn it into a tricorn-tophat. One thing I found was that with the bottom being totally flat it wanted to slide off my head. I ended up cutting open the bottom and turning it to the inside and attaching my ribbon to the sides. Then it sat on my head a lot more securely.

Threadheads, if you used hot glue to attach the bias (I used ribbon) like I did then the edges might be a bit bumpy like mine was. I fixed the problem by letting it sit over night and then giving it a run over with an iron on low heat; the iron heated up the hot glue and the flat even pressure smoothed it out! Looks a lot more professional now.

Excellent tutorial, though I found a few changes needed: I used hot glue gun for everything. Had to be VERY careful and go slowly to stay neat without webbing or glops but it held fast -- tacky glue held nothing. I also glued the long tie-on-your-head ribbon underneath instead of making slits, which would have damaged the satin I used. I positioned the middle (glued) few inches of the ribbon matching up to where the top cylinder attached to the brim which balanced the hat and kept it from being too wobbly when worn. I also used lace hem tape instead of bias tape. First I ironed it in half lengthwise. I glued only the center crease all the way around the edges of both hat top and brim. Next I carefully adhered the sides of the lace: first I glued selected areas around the edge at regular intervals. This allowed me to keep the little pleats tidy that form naturally as you curve the lace or ribbon between those glued areas as I worked the lace around the edges. So thanks for the help in this project--a steampunk bridal shower gift for the bride!

Great tutorial! Fast and easy. After I made it, it seemed too light and rocked back and forth on my head. I changed out the tie for a thin elastic headband (glued to the bottom of the hat) and added decoration and it's perfect! Made a fascinator for a masquerade fundraiser.

Thanks for the tutorial! If it's possible could you please give me an advice? I want to use very little hot glue and I can somewhat do a hat by sewing. The top and the wall of the hat will become like a tube but I need to know-even if it's a bit of a hassle-how do I sew the top which is a circle on the rectangular/arch shape of the wall? I hope I explained it alright. At first I made the wall with the sides sewed and tried attaching the top but still I can't on the machine, just by hand. Please help me if it's possible. Any tip would be welcomed.
