What a nice video on threading. I appreciate the time you take to make these instructional videos. I know it takes a lot of time to do this but this shows your dedication on extending knowledge to others and you are so good at it. When I first caught your videos I thought now this is a guy that can teach. Then I read your bio. You enjoy this. Thanks again, Lee

Thanks again for sharing! You answered a question I was having trouble with. When you make the top threads, you cut them and glue onto a top piece. When I was making them the relief was to wide and the top screwed into the bottom to far. I did give me an excuse to ad a feature ring above the bottom threads to take up some of the space. I have been also using Corian to make the inserts.I find it works well. Terry from IL

Sounds like you are doing OK. It does take a little practice. I have a bunch of chasing videos on my channel. I have used dorian. It really is nice for threads. Sam

Thanks soooo much! I've never seen the actual 'thread chasing process' and your video showing the procedure was excellent! I've often wondered how it was done and would like to see alternative methods such as using metal or plastic inserts vice wood as I think they might be more durable for other applications. Again, thanks for taking the time and all your efforts in making such a nice, complete video! Safe turning to you always!

Sam as usual great video... I heard you mention that some woods don't take threads...I recently bought thread chasing chisels and was wondering if you could give me some insight as to which woods will work other then box wood.

There's something very relaxing watching you turn threads. I like the insert technique allowing other woods to be used. I need to practice and the insert gives me the opportunity to repair if I muck it up. Have you tried epoxy putty for the insert? I saw a video from Jim Overton using a tap and die but I don't see why chasing tools wouldn't work just as well. Thanks for sharing. Ben
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER7 жыл бұрын
Yes I have used epoxy for threads. if you turn a groove then fill it with epoxy where the threads go, it works very well. Sam

Sam, if you soak say, black walnut with thin CA glue would it work to thread?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER7 жыл бұрын
Don Yes, this is a fairly common practice. If you get to the point of chasing your thread....start applying some thin CA glue. I prefer NOT to use an accelerator. I think this will make the wood less brittle but it does take longer to allow each application to dry. It is messy and smelly. Don't breath the CA glue while it is curing-wear a respirator. Sam

Hi Sam, its me again, and wondered if you would be interested in some box wood. I tore out one of my hedges and dried much of it . Some of the larger limbs, and the root ball.

Hi, Sam; been subscribed for 1 year+. I'm 66 yr.old/young, and been doing kind of large projects(slabbing oak logs, cutting trees down, collecting prime pieces, storing drying, ect.) and looking to get into something that I can persue till I'm done here. Thought miniature furniture might be worth a stab. Do you do any min. turning of furniture or bowls, etc?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER9 жыл бұрын
+Seth Warner I really don't. I make some small things but not what I would consider miniature. There is a British turner---Stuart King who has done lots of that. Check out his website. It is amazing. I am sure you cn find it if you search his name you can find it. Sam
