One thing’s missing. The yearly collection with Fred Perry. He’s kind of leading the way FP is moving, keeping the grunges/punk dna, with full Raf design year after year. It’s underrated for sure.

Not sure if anyone else said it on here yet, but I believe the “NEBRASKA” sweatshirts are in reference to Basquiat. There’s a very famous photo of him wearing a “Nebraska” football Jersey from the 80s. And I feel this fits in line with Raf’s aesthetic and love of rebelliousness and art

It may be hard to believe, but the Riot - Virginia Creeeper - Consumed era collections were hard work to sell. They were well received in the alternative fashion media, but consumer bases were scant. We had boxes of the stuff from all these collections, going at 70% off, and still hardly shifting. The late 90s early 00s mens fashion world was not locked into a celebrity culture. The context now has shifted, and we see this as position normal.

@feuxdepromethee3 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand why people always associate Raf and Rick, like they don’t have a lot in common, their approachs are very different. I would rather make a link between Raf and Undercover for example. But anyway, I respect the fact that you have these as inspirations, they are both incredible designers.

The video implies Raf at CK was a downmarket move but Calvin Klein’s RTW and diffusion lines (the jeans, underwear, perfurm, etc) were made by 2 separate companies. The RTW was just as prestigious as any American label could be, but the diffusion lines eclipsed the brand, and made the RTW unsellable to high-end retail buyers.

That's me together with Michael in the first video (AW95/96) Raf made. We created a bunch of promotional videos, 4 IIRC. All extremely cheap and guerilla style since there was no money. Little did we realise what an exceptional moment we were being a part of. Good times! I still have some of the prototypes used in that video.

I love the storytelling approach to this video. Very comprehensive and educational. New fan! PS Not a big fan of Raf on his own.
