Great video Mike. A lot of the videos I see showing fills are designed for a slower tempo and the fills are complicated and really don't sound good at higher tempos, but these really work well. The first one is similar to the 'Motown' fill you have done before and works well at a fast tempo. The third one is very similar to a fill I devised myself but I just play the floor tom and high rack top and then double kick, finishing on the snare and crash. Your version with the triplicate toms looks a bit more challenging but I will give it a go 🙂

Ha! Actually interesting point, you don't need to say it that fast. Words and phrases like that do the same job as counting IMO - they're your "candle in the dark" when first working things out, putting them together and building them up. Once you're at full speed, the idea is that whatever you're playing should be engrained by then and you won't need to say it along, just the same as drummer's don't sit on stage counting at full speed. Video about counting for you discussing this point here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpbcqaualLOob8Ufeature=shared Thanks for watching.

I can't stop saying 'nice cuppa tea, nice cuppa tea, nice' when I'm walking around the house! Great fills to learn and the practice on 'hands' really helps out. Thanks Mike!

Hi Mike, hope you you are well! Been playing or learning about a year now & just learning single handed 16th note grooves using Moeller technique. Question is now after some success, how the hell do you get back in from a fill. Dumb sounding question I know but the 1st beat of the new bar being a crash means you get back onto the hi hat with a tap stroke on the e which then feels like your moeller is backwards, & completely out of whack.

Hi Mike. Can you tell us about your kit, what does it cost! I'm starting out, just got a distinction on Rockschool debut... I currently have a cheap set from Amazon at home, great for mixing sound but clear limitations in terms of dynamics, anf facilities... What would you have to spend on a leccy kit to get through to grade 8?

@@SwissKensaku yep still have it, Yamaha Recording Custom from the 1980s. Great kit. Tend to use my Cambridge Drum Company kit when I’m on acoustic as I endorse them and it’s a superb kit 👌🏻
