Three Seal Rescues And One Old Friend

It is one of those insane rescue runs - when the crew spots so many entangled seals, they are about to run out of nets and rescuers. Only the video footage and the entanglement count will reveal later how many seals they caught in this run: 4. One of them is a recapture, but the scar tissue looked like a new entanglement. The rescuers do not take chances and instead capture the odd clean seal before they miss one with a hidden entanglement. With the amount of rubbish in the ocean, it is pretty understandable why so many animals fall victim to plastic pollution. They cannot escape; it is a matter of time before they suffer. 🦭

Tony right on the waters edge again. The crafty seal escaped but did not reckon on our tenacious Tony. Kat has such a delicate way of scooping up the pups. All are so gentle with the pups. Thanks for helping them.

Wally's recapture was familiar with the process. He just waited patiently to be released. Kind of a "Not THIS again! Guys! I am OK. I learned my lesson the FIRST time!" And Antoine, thank you for finding that ring. It could have caused all sorts of trouble for an innocent, curious seal! You guys are the best!!

It is humbling and a testament to OCN and all its staff to watch hundreds of captures and releases over the years, and to continue to show caring compassion to each and every seal you guys clear. You have shown this in the first vid I watched, where only Naude and Tony operated with the orange net, all the way through today, several years and hundreds of seal encounters later. Well done everyone! Thank you for your commitment. I live in New Jersey, US. We banned single use plastic bags last year. While it’s a pain in the butt to remember your reusable bags, but it’s worth it. Plus, the reusable are not expensive if you do forget. I do live on the ocean part of the state and the seals come to Sandy Hook Federal Park twice a year. It is fun to see them as our sighting’s for certain sea creatures are seasonal. Keep fighting the good fight you guys! Every seal counts 🦭

What these great people are doing is very dangerous. My friend did seal rescues in California and got bit. The bite became infected and she almost lost her thumb. So they are very skilled and risking a lot to do this great work. Thanks!
