Well with good binoculars, amazing team work, lots of experience, and a lot of luck. There are normally at least 3 rescuers scanning the same group of seals. Sometimes it is the body language of the seal that first catches our attention, often an entangled seal is very wary and skittish, presumably due to being in pain and unable to free itself of the entanglement. Sometimes it is the sunlight catching the tiny thread poking out from its neck. Once we have all focused on the seal and agreed that we believe there to be an entanglement one of us doesn't take their eyes off of it while the others prepare for the rescue. We often lose track of an individual in a large group of fleeing seals, but in most cases at least one person is able to guide the one with the net if need be.

It is all about experience. We look for ‘imperfections’ on the seal bodies. Antoine spotted an imperfection on this seal which was not our original target and netted him to be sure. This is why he tells Naude in the video that he is not sure.

Why are people disliking these videos? what you hate people saving our wild life?! These men are hero's to our economy and they deserve all the positive gratitude they can get! Thank you for making a difference in this world ❤️

People who like fishing need see those videos and what happens to wildlife after their "cute hobby" ,recently pulled out a fishing hook from my dogs ear after visiting local lake

It is true but in that case, commercial fishing lines represent the vast majority of the entanglements.

Love seeing it in slow mo. It is amazing how you can single them out in the crowd. Great job.

Amazing rescues as always! I've been rewatching some of your older videos and see big improvements in editing, so kudos to whoever works on that. I love the multiple pov's and unlike a few other people who've commented, I like your use of slo-mo. You've mentioned that more people on the beach would be counter productive, but if they were properly trained, couldn't several pairs patrol different parts of Pelican Point? Also, is Denzil still around? I think t-shirts and such merch would be very popular. If you do end up going that route, I think one should say "it's ok baby, it's ok", as I really love how Antoine calms the seals. Does Katja ever join you on your rescues? Or is she just too busy with the home and kids and puts in time behind the scenes? One last thing for anyone who reads the comments (because I always do) donate if you're able to do so, this is such a worthy cause. If you can't, watch the ads, visit the advertisers, like, comment subscribe and share because all of those actions help as well. Best wishes from 🇨🇦

No, it would really be too much for the seals. We are working having some merchandising but we want to do it the right way... Katja is the brain behind the scenes and also works full time so she unfortunately cannot come too often at the moment.

I love to watch this channel you're doing a great job and great for the animalbut the why you shouldn't have something to put them to sleep and then you can work if they injured you can fix them and God bless you

We are not veterinarians and this process is very complicated and dangerous for the animal. Plus, we are able to do it without causing any pain and more stress to the animal, so it is much better.
