I first began watching the three stooges when I was about 3. I just turned 30 last month and still get a kick out of them. They are without a doubt the greatest comedy routine of all time and will still be so a thousand years from now.

The movie with the sledgehammer is "Half Wits Holiday" made in 1947. It's a remake of "Hoi Polloi", Emil Sitka's 1st supporting short as well as Curly's last.

I agree with you. This is like trying to do a remake of "Gone with the Wind" or "Star Wars". You don't mess with a classic. But, after thinking about it some, I might just like to see these new shorts. Who knows? They might actually be good so long as they just do them in the style of the stooges and not try to duplicate the routines. I wonder if they're going to use the same old sound fx? That was one of the things that made them unique.

There was one where Moe goes to poke Curly in the eyes, but Curly turns around (not knowing what Moe was about to do) and Moe gets him in the back of his head (probably) cracking his fingers. Curly turns around, comments, then still gets poked.
