Key Notes* Thanks Nikki and Joe! 1. Build a Rapport *Provide Name *Open/Close w/ an interesting question. * Don’t be Original Example: “What makes you happy/scared?” “If you had your own plane, where would you go?” “What is Rock N Roll?” 2. Making Em Laugh *Show your personality *Make jokes *Be silly *Stay Animated. 3. Teaching Rigorously *Find Mistakes *Find the areas to improve *Use whiteboard use: RED(Correction Needed) GREEN(Correct) -Students are looking/wanting/craving to better themselves, and DO NOT find corrections as a way to feel insecure but an opportunity to become secure in their education.

I am learning German and all I ever want from teachers/friends/strangers in the streets is to just correct me if I'm saying something wrong! I usually don't need an explanation why, just to hear (and see) the proper way of saying it.

Hey. Really stupid question. I have a built in webcam on my mac which obviously doesn't work on googlechrome. Is it possible to just have a plug in webcam and use that or will that possibly interfere with slideshows and things?

Not a stupid question at all, but I've never used an external cam, so I'm not 100% sure. I'd go to a Facebook group and ask people how they do it. I do know that people use external webcams though.

I have been working at Itutor for around 2 months now. I really enjoy it, I just think the rating system is a little weird. I have a 9.74 rating but also have a 51.4 percent no rating, which I think is kind of weird. I do remind the students to rate me politely and they usually all seem like they are going to. I'm just wondering if having more than half of student not rating you is common/ normal? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks :)
@skillabration-school
@skillabration-school 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, you're actually doing really well. It's totally normal to have around a 20 to 40% conversion rate for ratings.

The sad part is you try to build a rapport, play games,make them laugh, do your best as a teacher, and suddenly there are connectivity issues or they are having a bad day, they will take that on you and will give you a 5 and leave misleading (lies) teaching quality feedback. And the worst part is you can't do anything about it. it's already there.

Hello Nikki and Joe! Thanks for the great video! Do you guys think iTutorGroup will ever move away from ratings? What are your thoughts on the rating policy :)
@skillabration-school
@skillabration-school 5 жыл бұрын
Marianka Benadie I’m not sure. We’ve discussed it with the Global Teacher Resource team countless times and they seem pretty stuck on it. They added the 3% thing where the worst 3% of your ratings are taken off every month but that only works if you get a certain number of low ratings. No one likes our rating system, lol!
@mariankabenadie2785
@mariankabenadie2785 5 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree! Our rating system does suck... especially because they invalidate the 3% but it remains on your monthly overall rating :( so in actual fact, it’s not invalidated. Thanks for the wonderful videos though! Have a great day :)

Great video. Tutor ABC sucks though. There are much better companies out there that don't make your income dependent on how well or even if the student decides to rate you.

Owens hi, can you give an example of any?
@owens7331
@owens7331 5 жыл бұрын
@@seadkolasinac7220 Open English pays a flat rate. $13/hr. Students do rate you but it doesn't affect your pay ever. Once a month, you'll only receive your overall percentage score. They also pay twice a month. They are very professional and make you feel like part of a family. Their lesson plans are far better than Tutor ABC's. Rarely do I ever see a lesson of that quality with Tutor ABC. Everything you need to ask the student is right there for you. The lesson plans are so engaging that you normally don't even get to the end of the lesson. If Tutor ABC spent as much time developing decent lesson plans as they do with their training and retraining of teachers to compensate for their horrible lessons, they'd be much better off. I don't know if Open English hiring though. You would have to check.

Hi Nikki, thanks for your videos, I find them very helpful! I have a question I don't know if you or anyone seeing this could answer; I'm applying to iTutor group and in the very first stage of the application it asks for an introduction video. I'm assuming I should film this as if it's geared towards the person assessing the video, and not potential students. Is this right? Do you have the opportunity to film a real introduction video if you're successful on interview?
