Bulova has a ton of interesting watches throughout their history. See watches with the Accutron 214 and 218 movements, they used the vibrational frequency of a tiny tuning fork to keep time and they hum!

I understand some of the nostalgia surrounding the "push to read" LED watches of the 70's. Especially when such watches were seen as "luxury" items like the Pulsar and Computron. But the Autodromo is nothing more than a Casio module in a different case. If I wanted that, I could get a Casio F105W at 1/25th the cost.

The price commanded by the Autodromo makes it quite a tough sell. It is painfully obvious to everybody, including not watch nerds, that it is a recased Casio module. I’m sure the craftsmanship and the finishing on the case are second to none, and that the strap is top class, and you’re paying for the good materials and the design process, but it is a huge sum to ask for a watch powered by the same module you’ll find on an F91W. There’s an awful lot of cool watches that can be had for $500.

Never knew about watch brands, didn't know first copies or knock-off brands so i just purchased what was available in the market near me. Recently learned about Casio then i got myself a Casio f91 and f94 too.. Manh these two are just so tiny, beautiful, so cheap and yet so so functional. I love it

I don’t understand why the Armitron Griffy is rarely ever mentioned alongside these modern retro LED watches? It is a surprisingly well finished retro of a watch they made back in the 70’s. Is it because it only costs $30-$60?

The Computron and Pulsar are bookends to the "luxury digital watch" era. The Pulsar was prohibitively expensive in 1972 ($2100.00), and by the time the Computron appeared in 1976, Bulova was offering them for under $100. That same year, TI undercut Bulova by a factor of 10 with it's plastic LED watches you could buy in a drug store. The Pulsar represents the beginning of the luxury digital watch era, the Computron represents the end of it. Apparently someone forgot to tell Omega with their sale of the Skywalker and Spacemaster.

@@adammordo Certainly. But Armitron is not really a "name" in the watch collecting community. Casio has developed the reputation as being the "goto" for the "beater" watch. So Casio gets love from the watch community for that. Not to mention the G-Shock is considered the ultimate "beater". Look at the hyperventilation caused by the "Casi-Oak". (I admit, I have one too, the solar one.) Before I started collecting watches, The Armitrons were simply Wal-Mart versions of more expensive styles. Most of my Armitrons in the 1990's and 2000's were mere Movado riffs. Perhaps the Griffy deserves more love, but it is released by a watch brand that has little or no standing in the watch community. Timex and Casio own that completely. So their "retro" releases will be lauded over where Armitron will be ignored.

I love the retro LED watches but the analogy that the originals went for $12000 adjusted for inflation is only because digital technology was in the early adopters phase. The technology came down in price quite a bit before the 1980's where LED watches were used in kids watches and having been replaced by the more efficient LCD technology. You can buy a retro style LED Armitron, complete with original style clunky clasp buckle, a company that goes back to the early days of digital LED, for $30 if you want a taste of the 70's.

I was told the reason why some watches are so expensive is due to the precision of the mechanics within the watch. However when it comes to a digital watch there is none of that so I don't know really where the value comes from. Style i guess

Group C is stunning but 3 ATM only?! Seriously?! I was just about to jump on ordering one, but that water resistance is unacceptable for this price range. Casio Royale offers 10, F-91W for 15 euros is also 3 ATM, but I've tested it with no fear for that price. Can't risk with a 500 euro watch.

I wear a digital watch that is barely $5, has date, day, alarm, backlight (on a button press) ... Comes in many colors and patterns, I have the camouflage one. It's not waterproof but mist proof and droplet proof... Atleast as with me. More than 3 years, changed the battery only once.

I had a $700 dollar Bulova i bought from a jewelry store. I ended up having the clasp/link joints repaired 4 TIMES IN ONE YEAR! I got demanded my money back the 5th time, and got it. The Bulova is beautiful as it can be. Back in the day customers were disappointed with LED watches mainly for 2 reasons: you must have both hands free to know what time it is, and high battery consumption; I hope new tech has improved at least the latter. Even partially justified by the refinement of the cases, prices are too high. Sad, but I think they won't survive long in this highly competitive and saturated market.
