Another perfectly timed video! My husband noticed I was wearing my OG Doc Martens with my skinny Sculptek Athleta jeans and a black turtleneck yesterday and he asked me when my ‘Gun Boats’ came back to fashion? I said they never really went out, just were lovingly stored for another time. As a 56 year old woman, I try to wear what defines me without looking like I’m trying to relive my youth. To that end , I also have combat boots by Miz Mooz, Frye, Fly London pair that look like I got them from Johnny Depp’s Edward Scissorhands character and a very old pair of wool lined, knee high combat style boots that may be Aquatalia as they are waterproof and survived several Wisconsin winters and I know they are still in a box in my basement. I really liked all of the ways you styled your boots and will definitely continue to style and wear mine.

I have a black pair and a white pair of combat style boots. I love them but needed this video on how to style them. I bought a pair of ankle zip black Ann Taylor leggings style pants and now I know what to wear with them with, with along top and long sweater. I live in combat style boots & have several pairs in different colors & textiles/patterns. Some lean more towards "granny" boots since the toe is pointed & they aren't as chunky, but I love a lace up ankle/mid calf boot with a low heel. My 2 favorite pairs are my cranberry velvet combat boots & my new olive "granny" ankle booties. I wear them with everything except for maybe a cocktail dress or very dressy evening attire. They're perfect for most casual outfits & look nicer than sneakers imo :) Biker boots or very trendy combat boots with lots of buckles & studs will limit what you can wear them with.

Erin I just watched your video on alcohol and loved your honesty. I live by the serenity prayer daily. AA was a lifeline for me. The best sentence my counsellor used that stays with me is this "Don't depend on anyone else to do something for you, depend on yourself". This sentence has since changed my life for the better. Love these looks especially the last one. I wear skirts and dresses with lace up boots a lot in the winter. I do need to find a new pair of combats though. Mine are a little sleeker and dressier. What's funny though is I hate when lace up boots have a zipper. I think it's redundant and looks too busy and don't mind tying laces. Guess that's why they make them both ways.

Thursday Boot Company has a great pair for $160, I believe. Great quality , not heavy and side zip!! I love mine. They have a bit more feminine feel than say, Doc Ms. More classic design than the current huge lug sole trends so they'll last longer. 👍👍

I wear a similar pair of boots by Guess but they have a bit higher "low" heel. I pull my socks up over the hems of leggings or jeggings so they are easy to secure into the boot. After the boots are zipped up over the pant hems, you should have enough of the sock top above the boot so you can fold the top portion of the sock down over the top of the boot without hiding the cute boot buckles. Contrasting socks look great (grey socks with black pants & boots . . . or any other color combo).

@@BusbeeStyle Hi Erin! Would love to see a video SERIES on how to push style envelopes. A good friend once told me that I don't buy clothes, I collect them. And this "hoarding" over several decades (yes, I'm a senior) has enabled me to wear things that no one else is. BUT I FIRST establish that I understand (and have) the current "uniform" and then add in one odd piece. Right now, very few people are wearing vests . . . so I establish myself with the standard skinny jeans, tunic top, booties (yawn) and then add a vest (or two). It is not unusual for me to wear three lightweight layers on top: 1) cami or bodysuit , 2) interesting color or texture or pattern sleeveless blouse or vest (worn open over the first layer) and 3) another lightweight piece (sleeveless, 3/4 sleeve, or L/S rolled). The second layer (between the first & third) gives the same effect as a scarf via a new presentation. And because I have an extensive wardrobe, I love putting together monochromatic outfits in hard-to-find (but sophisticated) colors. Just put together an outfit using a brown-burgundy (raisin) color palette . . . Lafayette waxed pants in the raisin color with a subtle blackish chevron background pattern (gives the impression of texture), worn with a suede-silk sleeveless, scoop-neck shell in raisin with a (new purchase) classic cashmere-silk knit cardigan in raisin (sleeves pushed up). Added classic black belt w/gold buckle, black boots (elevated combat boot), and a small Paloma Picasso shoulder bag (with the designer's gold X). Looks pleasing and simple. As you know, it is very hard to find the exact colors to do this. Every item was purchased second-hand from Ebay except for the boots. I probably spent less on these pieces than what most people would spend at Sears. It takes a lot of wardrobe space to gradually build a functioning wardrobe like this . . . and you have to factor in the cost of mistakes. But if this were not done, I would have spent the same money and most items thrown away after a couple of years. And that could be another video series for you to share. How to shop "blind" from Ebay when you can't try on the clothes or feel the fabric and look for quality and you can't see the true colors (how it looks on the hand). Love your videos, Erin.

Hi Erin - Love the length of your hair. I think it's really very flattering on you. I got a pair of combat boots but with a slightly higher heel 2.5" (Marc Fisher). Without seeing your video I have styled them with many of your looks today. Yay! I was not way off on the trend. I have a pair of REAL English Docs and they are heavy compared to the ones at, say Van's. But these are a burgundy/ox blood red and man, I love that twist. I wear them like I would my black ones. I never wore graphic tees until about 2 years ago. Now I love them for their edgy-ness. My two favorite are AC/DC concert tee and a Guns and Roses tee. Then I have a less edgy one that says My Favorite Color is Fall.
