Wendy, and Melanie, I'm so relieved to know that y'all feel overwhelmed, same as I do, when getting started on something new. I've thought about trying candles, also, but the sheer magnitude (or so I perceived) of required supplies, learning, etc, has so far stopped me from getting started. I'm curious, can thrift store candles simply be melted down and reused?
@LostFoundDecor2 жыл бұрын
So in my uninformed opinion, I think yes! You just need to be aware that you may have different wax, other than soy wax in the thrift store candles. But I don't see why they couldn't be!
@pamprier47102 жыл бұрын
@@LostFoundDecor Thx for the reminder! I had totally forgotten about soy candles! So yes, that will be something I'll need to keep in mind.

Thank you! I'm updating my little store and this is exactly what I needed to watch!... As for the candles... Don't overthink it! 😃 Prep your container, get your prepared wick set (I've seen people use stickers, glue gun, or just add it after the wax is poured into shallow containers.) Melt the wax, add enough scent that it smells good to you, and pour the wax in, I take a piece of foil to hold the wick in place; I just have it about an inch wide and poke a hole in the middle and then crimp it to the edges of container so the wick is centered. Good luck! I'll be watching for the sugar bowl candles!

I made candles years ago after watching my Aunt. Find someone who's done it, or watch You Tube video then just jump in and do it! Play with it until you find the scent ratio you like. I like a subtle scent. Wax is flammable and you could burn yourself, so that is a concern. I always used a double boiler method, an old can in an old pot of water. I LOVE your vignettes! I know what I like, I don't always know how to display it pleasingly. Thanks for helping!

Hi Melanie: I'm wondering if you have a video on organizing your work space from start to finish on say painting a piece of furniture getting ready to sell. I do a lot of vintage market shows, and include furniture and smalls, and have really struggled with where to put everything, find it, etc .

I had the exact same reaction to candle making. Wanted to try it, researched, bought materials which was not cheap. Hubs took pity on me and helped. Poured into cute stoneware mugs. Scent was subtle coffee and also pumpkin spice. Priced each at $14.95 which would have just recouped my investment but haven’t sold any. Kind of a bummer but now I know. 😊

Your vintage doll furniture addiction is funny. I love tiny things also, but what I have a hard time passing up is anything Americana. Items that are hand made OOAK. Which goes to the other thing I can't pass on is wood. Have you noticed how scarce old wood cutting boards have been lately. I've been using Fusion paint and adding a transfer on them. When you put the greenery in your containers do you expect to sell it with the container and if you don’t want to sell it how do you mark it not for sale?
@LostFoundDecor2 жыл бұрын
I buy nicer greenery wholesale, so do also sell it separately :) I make sure to tag each piece (container and greenery). If I happen to have some greenery I don't sell, I put a tag on it that says "NFS". I’m the same and feel so rushed and stressed with shoppers all around. I’m most creative when I’m not stressed. I have been thinking about putting up a curtain rod and curtains that I could close with a sign that says something like “under construction. Be back soon” but I also don’t want to make anyone mad by not being “open” during those times. What are your thoughts on that? Plus the whole missing out on sales and looks. Although no one has ever picked up an item to buy while I’m in there.
@julsatmidnight2 жыл бұрын
@@Blahlalovely my mall owner actually says in the vendor guidelines that we should walk away and not interrupt or block customers from shopping our booths. So I've dropped what I was working on and gave them space to look. The prices in my mall are NOT negotiable so it's discouraged to talk to customers. I totally understand this rule because customers have cornered me in my booth and tried to negotiate a lower price. I was super uncomfortable with that. My booth is 5x7 and I don't think I could draw a curtain and still work well in there.
