Thriftbooks lists what each condition means on their Help page (or somewhere around there). If the book you receive doesn't match the description of the condition it was listed as, you can email customer service and let them know. Often they'll either send you another copy or, if no other copy is available, issue you a refund. I've done it before, and I just list what condition the book was supposed to be in and a description of exactly what was wrong with the book that makes it not fit that condition. It's pretty easy! Edit: I looked up the condition descriptions for anyone interested who can't find it on the site... * New: Just like it sounds. A brand-new, unused, unread copy in perfect condition. * Like New: An apparently unread copy in perfect condition. Dust cover is intact; pages are clean and are not marred by notes or folds of any kind. * Very Good: A copy that has been read, but remains in excellent condition. Pages are intact and are not marred by notes or highlighting, but may contain a neat previous owner name. The spine remains undamaged. * Good: A copy that has been read, but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact. The spine may show signs of wear. Pages can include limited notes and highlighting, and the copy can include "From the library of" labels or previous owner inscriptions. * Acceptable: A readable copy. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact (the dust cover may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes--in pen or highlighter--but the notes cannot obscure the text. * ThriftBooks Deal: Items with a Deal tag are rated as being in Acceptable or Good condition as defined above.

@@cozyafternoons Of course! It nice when the condition turns out better than expected too. I think their employees probably interpret the conditions slightly differently, some more strictly than others. You could definitely reach out to them about the sticky copy of The Graveyard Book! That doesn't sound like a "clean" copy to me.

Yeah that's what I was figuring too. I'll definitely message them and see if they can do anything, thanks!

lol i always go for the cheapest option but I’m not really picky about the condition of the book as long as it’s readable. I love The Graveyard Book! It’s such a sweet story

I'm the same usually. I'll pick up a book where the cover is basically entirely ripped off and be fine with it lol I guess I draw the line at mysterious sticky residues. I would rather have no cover than a cover that'll leave something on my hands haha. It really is! I'm glad you like it too 🙂

ThriftBooks probably has employees sort through books they receive and categorize them based on their best judgement on what matches best. That’s probably where the inconsistency comes from. I placed an order with them recently and also noticed that when I placed my order for 20+ books I got shipments from GA, TX, and MD. So I also assume they have different warehouses in different areas

Salvation army and used book stores have gems(near perfect books) most of the time. I love thriftbooks. They sent me a classic book that was $7 but was labeled as 79cents. But its by a publisher that no longer exists. Looks beautiful but was cracked at the spine. Overall happy with all the books I got

Oh no, I'm sorry you were so disappointed with the labelling system! It did seem like it didn't quite add up. I have heard such good things about assassin's apprentice too and I have to admit I am quite curious :3 I've never read the graveyard book but everyone mentions how cute it is so I should probably get to it at some point as well!

I love Thriftbooks! But I’m also someone who doesn’t really care what condition of the book I get as long as it’s legible to read. I tend to get whatever is the cheapest price lol But I totally get why you’re a bit disappointed. Nonetheless happy reading, I love book hauls!!

I definitely agree! The best part of a book is the actual story so as long as you can read it, anything else is just extra!

Do they ship all together or separately when they arrive? @cozyafternoons
@cozyafternoons3 жыл бұрын
They came in separate packages!
@nikki98084 жыл бұрын
opening those packages is always so difficult for no reason! 😖 I ordered a bit from thriftbooks this spring and overall it was... okay? I try to go for Very Good when possible because mysterious stain-things are a big no for me hahaha I cant wait to hear your thoughts on Juliet Marillier’s writing! I bought one of her books this year but haven’t gotten to it yet. It looks so beautiful though!

That looks to be the main reaction and advice about shopping with thrift books haha good to know now! I'm excited to read it! I think it might be a good spring time book, so we'll see!

Just received my first purchase from thriftbooks yesterday. More than a little disappointed. Only 3 of the 7 books I received were the editions that I ordered, and one of the books in "acceptable" condition had mold/ water stains on the pages and the spine was twisted about 20%. It wasn't some super rare edition, just a mass market paperback, yet I still paid almost full cover price for it. I'll try contacting customer service, but pobably won't be ordering from them again.
@cozyafternoons4 жыл бұрын
Oh no! I'm so sorry you had that experience, that's even worse than mine. You should definitely talk to customer service about that. And I don't blame you for not wanting to order from them again. I don't think I will either!

Apparently the actual condition of the book may vary bc I bought a book that was "like new" and it was in worse condition than your "very good" one 🤔

Yeah it's so inconsistent! That sucks though, did you try contacting them about it?

Buying used books… can be such a hard thing for me. I really really like my books to be in pristine condition if possible. I certainly have bought used books before, because it’s a good practice overall of course. I appreciated your hair accessory that did not get enough screen time. xD I’ve bought “a lot” of books this year, for my cheap self standards. A few of my purchases were for books I knew I wanted in my long term collection, and a few have been a mix of the first reason and just not being able to get the books from my library at the time. I still need to check out the library I found with a good English selection in the city. There’s a yearly fee though, so I’d have to see if using their library will be worth it. And nah you’re not being harsh on the rating system. It’s definitely off.
@cozyafternoons4 жыл бұрын
I get it! Pretty books are so nice :) I love getting new books, but I hate paying for them haha Who needs cute clips when you can just stick a piece of plastic in your hair? Pshh. Since you know you wanted those books in your long term collection, I'm sure they were smart purchases! Oh noooo library fees aren't fun. Sounds like a cost benefit analysis is needed. Good to know haha I was worried I was being too picky
@RoseRamblesYT4 жыл бұрын
@@cozyafternoons Yeah, I think the yearly fee is something between $60-80. Sooo I gotta see if that would be worth it for how long we'll potentially be here, or if I should just buy books (though not many). .-.
@cozyafternoons4 жыл бұрын
Oh jeez yeah that's crazy. It may be worth it if you're planning to read 6-8 of the books they have available within the next 3 months? That'll depend on their selection and the time you have for reading though
@RoseRamblesYT4 жыл бұрын
@@cozyafternoons Exactly. I think I should have time to read 3-4 books a month, so the library fee may be worth it.
