It’s too late for him as he is no longer with us but it fills my heart with joy that you are getting help and things are improving for you. It’s a horrid condition to suffer with and I am so so happy that you are experiencing some relief and clarity. Sending big hugs….I’m very proud of you taking this huge leap.

@iLofi Hi there, I'll stay a bit vague to avoid saying anything triggering for anyone. (I'm new at discussing this, so if I write anything that I shouldn't, someone can let me know.) I started by speaking to a therapist who specialized in OCD. I've been going for several months. It was extremely helpful to have my experience validated and taken seriously without being judged. We discussed coping strategies and awareness and then progressing to controlled exposure. I noticed an improvement in myself, but I deal a lot with persistent feelings of dread. Intrusive thoughts persist, too. So, after speaking with a psychiatrist, I started taking meds at a low dosage. The initial reaction has been quite positive. I have been feeling much more hopeful. Symptoms have not vanished, but the intensity of my reactions to the intrusive thoughts have lessened. It is still quite early in the process. Undiagnosed OCD has ruined a lot of things in my life. People who have lived with it sharing their stories have saved me. My background/upbringing made me skeptical of meds, and a previous negative experience with one scared me away for a bit (specifically to treat depression and not to treat OCD) . But from this short time on a new med, I am much more optimistic. Hope this helps.

Full titration period I’d 6 months, first 4 weeks are hell with an increase of anxiety, depression, brain fog, upset stomach, emotional numbness and intrusive thoughts, 6 weeks should feel some relief if no relief, an increase will be suggested, give that 4 weeks to go through the symptoms again, if you are still struggling another increase will be suggested or a medication change will be suggested. We can do hard things!!!! 💪

But medication names are so helpful for people like me who are looking for what medication MIGHT be the best. Because I had serotonin syndrome from a first dose of Zoloft. So it’s helpful to know what other ones might work. I don’t think it’s bad to let people know what worked for you. Because it is what worked for you. If other people want to bring up that particular medication to their Dr. to explore the benefits of then that is their business. But you could actually help someone by saying what the medications were.

Great that she has found relief. But don't see the point in the vid really if you can't say the names of meds as there are people desperately looking and may not have even tried the one you are on. This is one of the things I can't stand with some youtube videos.

I’m glad you are feeling comfortable. I am 52 and had OCD since I was young. I keep for the last couple years saying I want to do something like you’re doing or go talk to schools. Because it could be so horrible and then it could be good. It gets triggered and I take medicine as well and also, it would help for me is to avoid my triggers. my mother died in July and it just really kicked my OCD out of control and then even though my brother has OCD that’s just like mine and my father and sister have it but not quite as bad. They all blocked me and I kind of understand because it could be annoying, but it was getting better and I do so much good for them. Why don’t they are your knowledge that I’m always the one that has to suck it up. Because I was always the crier, and they all had tempers. Me and my brother were always very very close. He got sarcastic reason which for some reason it’s OK for him to do it and then I just had it with that so I kind of went back at him. It was so stupid and then I was at the house last week my fathers house where my mother lived, but my sister and her kids live there too and I was happy I was flying and my brother came in and really just told me off. Said I’m a psycho. I am having a bothers me, so much is he lives alone he doesn’t have anybody he’s gay, which who cares and we always have a pact that we would never just on each other because my mother and like her whole side and my sister they were able to just not talk for two years and I can’t do that, I don’t like confrontation taking a sick stomach. And I had a horrible relationship with my husband and I know if it was good enough I was treated right I’d be 80% better it’s been an actual proven fact for me. But I also understand when I used to call my family about complaining about my husband all the time they have the wrong shit they don’t need that I mean I have to do something because I get a divorce or don’t. But when my father and sister and mother would talk to me and oh, you need a different doctor and all that stuff. It was always expressive and I always talk about stuff or emotions. I don’t keep it in. My father and sister were able to keep it and then my brother whom only I knew got addicted to pain medicine and now he takes that drug that supposed to help you get off of it I don’t know if it’s methadone or methotrexate I don’t know. But now he takes out all the time. He works at night job. He could sleep on times almost the whole night. He makes good money. And then they attack me. Oh, change your medicine etc. and I say none of these are any more saying than I am.P

As constructive criticism, I would say add the markers of your topics to your videos because for example the trigger warning part can be really interesting to some people but for people like me who understand what they’re for but don’t need them and are not in the video for that topic ( it dragged on a little ) the markers might be useful to find what we’re looking for! Blessings and keep on :)

I have severe OCD, depression, eating disorder, Asperger, panic attacks, anxiety and trauma symptoms and my experience is that all these medicines help only with depression and less with anxiety, but there is completely no influence on OCD. But maybe people have OCD caused by different reasons and that's why it doesn't work for everyone. My reasons are genetic (both parents have OCD), but also I enjoyed a very strict upbringing plus experienced many traumatic situations. At some point OCD became a coping skill that gives me safety, stability, predictability, kind of satisfaction and purpose. For me it is not just an illness that appeared from nowhere. Is there anybody with a similar story?

The best medications for OCD are clomipramine and fluvoxamine. Most medications come with some side-effects unfortunately (clomipramine no less, which is why it’s prescribed a bit more rarely these days) but you’re going to have to weigh that up against how much you want to get better.

Glad you're feeling well but that was a waste of my time. It might trigger your OCD to share but have you thought the withholding might trigger others as well? Especially people who might be conpulsively doing research to try and get help. A disclaimer that you don't share the medications would be more considerate. Dosages and reactions vary for everyone no matter what. A lot of us have already tried most SSRIs anyways as this is such a finnicky disorder. Hearing the symptoms of others, along witht the drugs and dosages gives people some direction to discuss with their psychiatrist coupled with their personal history of trial and error.

I need to prioritize my needs first. The point of this video was to give others hope that there may be medications that work for them since I have found some that work for me. Medication efficacy is completely contingent on how each person’s body reacts to the treatment. If medication is that path someone wants to explore, the journey of finding one that works is completely individualized.

My son tried every SSRI for OCD and had side effects with all so he stopped. He tried Prozac, Luvox worked great but he felt numb. Celexa, Zoloft. I wish I knew what ended up helping you because maybe it would work for him. As of right now, he suffers with no meds because he can’t find the right one. Do you think you will ever met us know what you take?

I have OCD and ADHD I have heard of stratterra which is a non stimulant ADHD medication being used for OCD. It was first developed as an antidepressant but it's used mainly for ADHD now. It takes awhile to work in the body and I started taking it a few weeks ago and just had my dose increased. I feel its helping my racing thoughts a bit already.

I recommend possibly doing a gene test. It shows what meds someone may have more side effects or adverse reactions too and ones that should work well.
