I walked up to a family run estate sale Saturday and noticed a pull behind trailer with a 1.00 sign. In one corner there was a pile of silver serving pieces and I noticed some were wrapped in cellophane. My granny wrapped all of her sterling pieces in cellophane. Sure enough they were clearly marked sterling. I was thinking about letting the family know the footed tray, tea pot and little bowl were sterling until I heard some of the family talking about their shock that anyone would buy “mamaws crap”. I gladly paid the asking price of 3.00.
@OriginalNethead3 ай бұрын
An estate sale run by a pro company advertised Wedgwood and glass, and totally ignored a sterling service for 6 or 12 and some circa 1900 Russian serving pieces. Sold them as plate despite clear sterling marks. Couldn't get it to my car quickly enough.(LOL)

Those are good stories! I feel the same about family sales, if they’re nice and they seem innocent I’d pay them more, but if they have attitude I figure that’s the price they pay

@@TheAntiqueNomad One man's just is another man's treasure. I can't be going to estate sales to find all of the underpriced items so that I can tell them they priced them too cheap and to charge me more. Not my place or business to do that.

Good evening, George. Whoa! There's a ton of stuff in that store! I liked that Staffordshire teapot, and I'm not a teapot collector, unless it's in a set. There are several of the Asian dolls here that were in mom's collection. One of them is really tall. I'm hanging onto those. There was a pitcher there that looked like pewter. It caught my eye. I have an old coffee grinder that I bought at a flea market. I think I might have paid $3.00 or $5.00 for it...years ago. Those covered dishes, for $8.00 each, seemed really cheap, to me. I liked the maple crucifix. Love the English barley twist candleholders! Those are definitely my style. That store would be a great place to spend a week...you'd need it to just stay up with them constantly bringing out carts 🤣 Thanks for the take-along!

Syracuse China and Onondage Pottery was the largest supplier of institutional ceramic tableware to railroads, hotels, restaurants, ocean liners, hospitals, schools, private clubs, industrial cafeteria, etc. Unlike other "diner china" specialist china companies, Syracuse made a significant amount of super fine high quality translucent porcelain for the domestic market, sold exclusively by finer department stores. Buffalo China, however, was prolific but never made a domestic line and it's wares were never sold in stores.
