Excellent interview, but I would have to disagree about Lyn's assertion that Bitcoin is backed by energy. Yes, a lot of energy goes into mining Bitcoin, but that was all dissipated as heat, and unlike gold you do not produce something with tangible value you end up with something that is essentially a faith based currency. Transaction costs are high and time-consuming and also wasteful on the energy front. Unless the transaction costs are competitive with credit cards, I do not see widespread adoption. I could go on, but this will turn into a book.

Useful proof of work would definitely solve what you describe. Which is the way many blockchains (now many times more advanced than Bitcoin) operate

1. BTC is backed by electricity, computation, mathematics. Gold is backed by physics. Fiat is backed by violence. 2. There is no such thing as intrinsic value, all value is subjective, based on mutual consensus amongst freely trading entities. This is one of the basic tenets of Austrian economics. If people believe something has value, then it does have value by definition, whether you agree with them or not. 3. Block times on the base layer are 10mins; it is meant for large transactions. Scalability will necessitate going to 2nd layer due to the trilemma (decentralisation and security are far more important than speed on the base layer). Transactions on lightning and liquid are cheaper and faster than credit cards. 4. It isn't wasted energy. Energy consumption is the only way to ensure security. Non-PoW blockchains will always be vulnerable since they require a governance structure and trust. Energy consumption eliminates the need for trust. Most energy consumed by the network is renewable, and the sun's energy is effectively infinite. Mining operations also have an effect of stabilising the electrical grid.

It is still not instant and has much higher transactional costs. 4. It is wasted energy because the energy could have been used to buy a tangigle asset. I don't have faith in my hous, it is there and I can live in it. Like fiat currency Bitcoin requires faith in it because it is not backed by anything tangible. Money and Bitcoin are good for transactions but not as a long term store of wealth, and since Bitcoin has high transactional cost it is less desirable. At this point in thime I would say that Bitcoin is cult based.

Does anybody remember if when you girdle a tree that has a 4 inch shell and a d b h of 54 inches. Dewatering a hemlock, you might call it! When the stem was dropped with less of a weight. Then the felled stem was opened up. The tannins contained and sent to the beef trade for the manufacture of leather? I wonder why this way of life is being forgotten about? Hmmmm?

What was said is generally true. BTC is not the solution, never was. It’s all hype and only a speculative mania. The solution was always responsible government that don’t deficit spend. Once this happens again, which it will after current debt crisis forces debt collapse and evisceration of liquidity BTC declines 99%.

Don't be fooled again, learn your history. It happens again and again. Nothing stops this train. Embrace technology that works. Youre probably right though, it's not Bitcoin, but Monero that will free us from economic prison. Most will realize too late.

The trick to a future monetary inclusion for the entire world population. Will this be added to the world economic wallet? Balance can be the benefit. The more the chores that have to be done on the land, in our families, communities regardless of traditional economic tools that can have everyone pencilled in to a budget I’m sure the entire population would vote to approve.
