Maybach starts out as a fully specced s class but gets maybach treatment which icblides different paint and design elements as well as much higher quality materials and customization and more room and more exclusive features as well as being limited production and holding their value better. So although its an s class its unlike any other s class and certainly isn't a normal s class If maybach costed $500k then yes you would have a point but at this price its perfectly reasonable and successful sales also prove that its reasonable and that mercedes knows what people want

The 57s has a much better interior aesthetic than the new one. It is inviting, and exudes excellent craftsmanship throughout. All of the features are integrated much more seamlessly in the older model. If I were being chauffeured across the country I would chose to ride in the 57 everytime.

You must note that: Back in the day, Maybach was a separate brand under Mercedes, hence it was somewhat different from S class which it was based on... Now Maybach is JUST a trim level in the S class family, the highest and most luxurious, so no difference from S class... A change in the strategy

Sorry gents.... the “flowing lines” trim package can be had on nearly all of mercs line up.. not exclusive to maybachs at all. Magic sky was also offered on the 62 and 62s. Currently merc runs these offerings as an “s” and a “s class maybach” so the lengths are different however all options on the maybach (today) can be found inside the standard wheelbase “s”. 4place seating with 3D sound and you would never know the difference.. the previous gen maybach cut absolutely zero corners..

Fun fact the central box that Thomas mentioned at 8:25 which opened from two angles, in the old generation S class the Legendary W221 it actually had a third button which would open a even deeper storage place and in it it had a telephone place holder which was the same telephone used in some other cars including the SLS and when I first noticed that it always amazed me idk why but I thought it was really cool

Samuel my uncle had one in the early 2000’s brand new and in like a year the AC stopped working and he took it to 3 different mechanic shops and no one was able to fix it. He spent like 8k and took him like 4 weeks to have it working properly. It’s not about the money it’s about time because people in the US are not used to European car and it’s also harder to order parts for foreign cars. They are good cars but not in the US these cars in Europe are more reliable because it’s from there.

Having only seen this vid now and enjoying it, I do some things to consider….. have you bought the car to show off to other people. Then the external looks are important. But if you don’t need validation from other people them the interior is most important…. You don’t run alongside The vehicle at 120km/h looking at how good you look. But you do enjoy quality tech and features in the car and of course comfort and road ability if required. External looks really become secondary. Great channel guys and decent incite full information. Cheers

I can actually say I’ve driven a 57s (I used to work for a MB dealership when this vehicle came out and they had one on the showroom floor and I swear on everything, you had to wear white gloves just to touch this car. You had to sign a form before cleaning this car and it was roped off with velvet rope) this car was unlike any other car during that time. Yes it was HUGE but it was so smooth and let’s not front it was the king of all cars at that point. I never got a chance to drive this new one but I can imagine it got better

The garage door opener in the back of 57s is actually an advanced Bluetooth module that was shared with Nokia-style phone holders in the Mercedes E and S classes of the era. Hence it goes into the holder. I had one in my E420 and to use it, you press the only button on top which blinks blue until programmed and then once paired turns solid blue, the Coolest gadget at the time.

In 1961, I was on a 9 months, pre University, Praktikant / Intern at the BMW. During the day I worked and in the evenings I leaned the language. West Germany was still struggling to achieve its place in the world. I spent 2 weeks at Mercedes / Stuttgart as an exchange student. BMW was very advanced in all aspects, but, MB was at its zenith at engineering and the rest. They were working on a car that would compete and win from the American Limousine Market, thus, Pullman was the answer. The rest is just history. Electric Motors were still big, clumsy and noisy, hence, hydraulics were used. Pullman just bedazzled the Luxury car Market. None other ever came anywhere near it. I am 82 now. I still consider Pullman the most luxurious car. It is a car to be driven in long distances.
