Is the clay you use fairly soft when throwing? I see many potters where their clay looks softer than the clay I use at school, and I'm curious if I should be wedging it and/coning it more to make it more playable.

You can hand-built pottery yes! But throwing pots without a wheel can be tricky. Look up 'pinch pottery' or 'coil pottery' or 'slab pottery' for various ways of making ceramics with a throwing wheel.

I can do everything pretty good up until I start pulling the sides up then it gets floppy and my bowl or whatever I’m trying to make always either turns to a plate or ashtray 😂. What am I doing wrong?
