In the UK land is expensive so we don’t have houses with big cellars and garages. Storage is a small luxury and usually in the roof space. Decluttering definitely needs to be a regular task. It’s surprising what you decide to keep in the Spring then say goodbye to in the Autumn. My motto is “think twice before it goes into the loft”.

Kids clothes is always so tough! We had a daughter in 2010 and thought we were going to have 2 more back to back. Well, life happened and we had our second baby 8 years later. And it was a boy. And the year after that we had our second son.😂 So all those totes (8 I believe, full to the brim large totes) of girl clothes got donated. I kept a baby outfit and a dress. And in 2021 we had our second girl😂❤❤❤. She wore her sister's dress. I got the pictures and was happy. But other than that I didn't miss all the clothes. She has her own personality and her sisters clothes would have been not her style.😅

Something to consider when keeping baby clothes for future kids or grandkids... They're going to want the experience of nesting with their choices and taste. I can pretty much guarantee they won't want any of what you save. Also, no matter how carefully you pack it away, they will unpack with mystery stains and smells. Ask yourself if the what-ifs outweigh the space used when making your decision. Hope this helps.❤

Life advice from a grandmother. Do not save clothes for your someday future grandchildren. Your kids and/or their spouses won’t want them. Save them for your memories if you really want them but in my experience, styles change, elastic etc. breaks down, and you will have taken up space in your home in the meantime.

Great video Catherine❤ I did a massive declutter recently and followed the white/black rule to make sorting easier: any old clothes or things that could be recycled go in white trash bags to be donated and anything that’s trash or broken goes in black trash bags and is thrown out

I can't believe all of those clothes were only for 2 children & boys to boot! I thought maybe you had 3 or 4 lol!! But another way I like to think of decluttering clothing - especially when my child was young - was that someone, who perhaps can't afford to buy new would have the opportunity to get some nice clothing for their child. And of course, buying second hand or being able to secure already worn clothing at no cost is a great way to support our planet!! What you accomplished in this video was incredible!! Good for you - thanks for sharing the motivation!!!

Good job. My comment relates to the shelf on the right. I save some glass jars like from pickles, spaghetti sauce etc. When I am done painting I pour the paint that is left into a jar and label it. I try to use a jar that I can fill all the way so it doesn't have air in it. Paint cans take up a lot of room, they rust and the paint dries up. I just did a touch up using seven year old paint and it was fine.

Great job! No worries about the repetition of folding for so long- it is kinda hypnotic to watch what your hands and arms do as you fold in speeded-up motion! I think there are others who like this as well as myself... And the commentary and sharing of evaluating what to discard and why is interesting. Thoughts and actions which can be useful to me and others who also want to declutter and/or organize. Thanks you for your efforts- very enjoyable! And I appreciate your lovely personality! Bye

The idea of uniform bins is a good one. well as it looks nice, dparking joy and peace of mind, you know those ones have the one category in them and the labels. What a fun adventure this would be going down memory lane. I remember going through my child's clothes - lots of memories. Those memories are always with you when the children are grown up. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks, Catherine ❤

When I go through my kids clothes, I keep 10 of each type of clothing in each size-shorts, pants, short sleeves, long sleeves, socks and undies. I just pick out my favorite 10 or the 10 in the best shape and the rest is donated. That way I know I have a good week's worth of clothing in each size and I know they will be gifted clothing by grandparents periodically. So I don't worry about when items wear out or are damaged. I only keep 1 heavy coat, 1 mid weight, and 2 light jackets.

Great job decluttering. The new bins look very nice. I think it’s worthwhile to keep since you’re not sure if you’re going to have another baby. As a grandma myself, I think your kids probably won’t want their baby clothes for their own children. Styles change, they’ll receive gifts and they may receive “hand me down” items from relatives and friends in their age group. We’ve had a couple of those super large bins and I agree with you- I am not a fan. They get very heavy and difficult to move. Would rather use multiple smaller bins (and try to save less.) Your videos are very inspiring. Decluttering is an ongoing process and you help to keep me motivated.

When we had our daughter, I saved all the clothes in good condition by season and size. Spring/summer and fall/winter with the sizes marked. I used clear bins and slid a sheet of paper inside the bin up against the side so I could see by looking at each stacked bin what was in there. Four years later our second, a girl, was born. The first year was slightly off in the seasons. But then things balanced out for the second year. We knew we were done so we donated stuff the moment our youngest outgrew them. But then we encountered the issue where my youngest’s waist size and leg length were not matching my oldest. So I donated all saved pairs of pants and stopped saving pants. Then the next year, shirt size and length weren’t lining up. So all shirts left and I stopped saving them. After that I only kept dresses, shoes, snow pants and outdoor gear. It really cut down on the number of bins!

Not being sure if you are wanting another baby is so tough when trying to declutter. I'm there too. I keep chipping away at it. I have two boys as well and have pretty much condensed down to 2 bins. Most of the clothes are smaller ones 18 months and under because once they're eating and crawling it seems most of those clothes get holes and stains. Hardest to get rid of is newborn for sure!

I think my downfall is that I accepted a loooot of hand me downs over the years, even when I knew I didn’t need them because I have a hard time saying no. I’m such a people pleaser 😭 so, be choosy about what you say yes to!! I kept things they’ve outgrown in case we have another boy someday! But I would suggest you don’t let it get this backed up like I did… I used to just throw everything into a container to deal with later until it turned into such a daunting task and became worse and worse over time.

Haha! I do like green. No contacts!! I had a procedure done a couple months ago and I couldn’t wear my glasses for a while. I could put them back on now but I got used to not wearing them 😂 I might get contacts though!

Dont save for the grandchildren. All that space is taken up and they will not wear them. Styles change over the years. I saved mine for my grandchildren they never wore my daughters beautiful dresses or sons sweatersetc.

What if you have another baby but…it’s a girl? Maybe keep the very sentimental and anything neutral? Great video!

They are just clothes, not your child. Give those clothes to a kid that needs them. Don’t save bins of clothes for grandkids!
