Point of game is laughing and having fun. Family fun.

The game is at least a 4.5, but you need to have Choppe Shoppe and Extra Ammo, which should have been part of the base game. Not sure why they weren't part of it, because they fix the critiques made, giving more powers and mitigation. This game is great, tons of fun, but I am a bit bias as the original was a favorite from my youth.
@marcustenaglia3 ай бұрын
This is much less a game about winning and much more a game of raucous fun from all the crazy cascading disasters and Hail Mary moments. Not something I will play particularly often, but it is a good time every time I play - just don't expect some big strategic experience. Expansions make it more interesting but are not strictly necessary

As far as I am aware, it only costs you an extra move to ENTER a mud section, once you are in the mud you move as normal.
@BoardGameCo2 ай бұрын
Hmmm...it's possible I misunderstood that if so.
@superspecky4eyes2 ай бұрын
@@BoardGameCo That's how I interpreted the wording anyway. Depends if you consider adjacent mud tiles one large hazard or many individual hazards I suppose.
@Nattytom5002 ай бұрын
It costs you extra to enter a mud space but if you have one movement point left you can still enter it. Once you are in it you can leave as normal, if you enter another mud space you have to pay for it unless you again have only one movement point left.
@superspecky4eyes2 ай бұрын
@@Nattytom500 Yes, I think you are right. I assumed a mud pit was one obstacle, even if it was multiple connected spaces. I guess you treat every mud space as a new hazard and should be treated accordingly.

For me, this is a perfect Mad Max board game. From the chunky 80's cars to the Gyrocopters from Road Warrior, the base game is enough to satisfy the race, dodge, and destroy excitement of the chase scenes from the original Gibson trilogy. For gamers deep into the hobby, however, I can totally see the 3 and the 3.5. For gamers like myself, who have precious few gaming buddies willing to invest time in anything deeper than Quacks or Biblios, this one's a banger to break out with casual gamers.

I think i agree with your review score for the base game. I have the maximum chrome box so i have all the expansions. Once you play this game with expansions they become essential. It adds way more variability to the cars and adds special abilities for drivers. Base game...ya 3.5 sounds good. Added content this game is 4.5- 5 imo
@bassmeo39373 ай бұрын
Sounds like that's still going to make the game way too expensive for what it is. But I also don't really see how variability to cars or special abilities would make the game play loop that much better
@jcapo53 ай бұрын
@bassmeo3937 the game isn't that expensive. The base is a lot of fun. But I think if you get it just know what you're buying. This game is dumb fun. It's exciting and hilarious. If you're looking for high level strategy, not this game
@bassmeo39373 ай бұрын
@@jcapo5 Just the base game is €70 in retail here. And you are telling me I need to buy another 2 expansions that are essential. As I said, it's expensive, the base game alone already is.
@jbo24713 ай бұрын
It’s a game that is very diplomatic actually. Alliances and king unmaker gravitate around the table until someone on the last panel to victory slip on oil, rebound on a carcass and jump into a mountain while having the car on fire and one less wheel. The emergent narrative of a play makes that even 1 year after our best plays, we remember all the story. It is that good. I barely have any other game in collection having same effect. Sure the game is not for people wanting control, although expansion round it a little. But we have plenty of games to feel smarter than what we are anyway 😂
@donkeytorin81373 ай бұрын
I would definitely check out the expansions. They are very easy to mix in and solve many of your critiques with the game. German Engineering solves the dice rolls for movement and many of the others add unique powers and abilities that offer each player different ways to use their cars. I generally agree with your reviews, but this game is near perfect for me (although that does include the expansions)

Maximum Chrome really should be the base game. Actual base is too boring I agree.
@successfulgeek3 ай бұрын
I love the game with the expansions. This is a game that everyone playing has to agree not to take it seriously though because you can get wiped out in the first couple rounds just due to random events. Its just fun chaos! I don't think I would enjoy just the base game though...
@Angekie3 ай бұрын
I would agree for the base game but with all the expansions it really opens up the fun! Especially when you through in the drivers which adds in that layer of asymmetrical game play which is really fun! Also more hazards like sandworms and earthquakes really shake things up ;)
@Camj413 ай бұрын
In one of the expansions there is something called German Engineering. They are numbered cards that are an alternative to dice rolling. All the expansion content really bump this game up a notch.

You’ve mentioned in previous videos that playing games for you is the overall experience that you have with your family and/or friends. Not so much about the winning or losing. Why is this game more about winning or losing for you and is excluded from your thoughts of just the overall experience it gives you?
@BoardGameCo3 ай бұрын
Winning itself never matters, but if a game is about strategy, than the pursuit of winning matters. If a game isn't about strategy but about fun, than that's fine, I love a good party game...this one unfortunately has one foot in both camps in a way that's fine...but I'd rather either play a strategy game or a party game, not a halfway one.
@steveschloegel54543 ай бұрын
This is a party game through and through. Both feet are firmly planted in the party camp. Party games come in all shapes and sizes and yes, you can use strategy in party games too. Listen to the people! Their responses aren’t about who won the game. Who won the game takes a backseat to how much fun everyone had. That’s the definition of a party game. Now, did Restoration Games have this mind when they recreated it? I couldn’t say. But I can say this, I think you got this one wrong. If you don’t believe me just rewatch your short play through prior to your review. Y’all are having fun! Both you and Meg are laughing and enjoying yourselves while playing the game. Then for some reason you both put your serious hats on when reviewing the game. Anyway, thanks for the reply and the polite conversation.

Ive always heard this game shines with expansions and that the base game is a short novelty. I got the chrome edition coming soon and very excited to play it. Maybe you should see if any of your friends have expansions for it and maybe talk about it in a weekly round up in the future if you have a chance.

Woah. I'm astounded it was so low for you. I bought the base game to try out and my family AND friends LOVE it! To the point that on their latest crowdfunding, I went all in for everything so we can get even more of it. We play for the chaos, its not about winning for us. Like we purposely make actions that cahse the most damage, the most wrecks, the most hazards. Heck, in one of our early games I used my helicopter to shoot down my own car that was ahead cause I didn't want the game to end yet lol in another, my cousing tried to slam his younger brother into the canyon wall but instead he bounced off and slammed HIMSELF into the wall, blowing up 😂 I respect your opinion, but we seem to have just gotten very different things out of it (which is ok). Super excited for the derby expansion to arrive cause it seems like it will lend to the chaos even more!

Death Road All Stars is a game that really didn't get much press when it arrived and got lost next to all the Thunder Road reviews. It's a game combo that would be great to see a "play this not that" on.
@trevordudbridge77643 ай бұрын
For me, it's between a 4.5 and a 5. I did love the original as a teenager so i get i have Bias. For me its all about the chaos. Yeah play the base game with 2 people to teach it, but to really make people love it you want 4 players ( or 5 with the expansion) and then add on as many of tge extras from maximum chrome that you want. The cinematic experiences you talk of increase drastically with a higher player count and more add ons. Yes theres lots of luck involved, but there is still statergy too . Do you stay on the road and get involved in the carnage with other cars and hazzards or do you play it safe and head off-road. Its not for everyone, but our gaming group do care when they manage to survive the chaos and win.

Ohh man, the retail version feels so basic to me. For families looking for a fun gateway experience, the retail would be sufficient. However, for us hardcore gamers, you'll want everything! The lack of blinged out terrain here makes me sad. Haha The expansions and upgraded terrain crank the excitement up to 11! I couldn't imagine playing it any other way. 5/5 for me! Hopefully we'll have a chance to play it sometime with all of Adrena Creative's blingy goodness. :)
