@@emceehawaii7542 I think a lotta movies suck anyway... I think it might only look that women suck at making movies because men have had so many opportunities to make great movies that no one can doubt that some men are great filmmakers but women don't have that, they lack opportunities historically so it's much easier to say "every film made by a woman sucks" because there aren't that many films by women

Thunderf00t is just unbelievably bad at arguing. I remember he was making fun of Anita's Bechdel Test video. In it, he said she was an idiot for thinking it was a useful or valid test for judging a films quality. Except she literally says this in the video he is critiquing. She LITERALLY says "There are terrible films that pass the test, and great movies that fail it." She actually made the exact same point he did before he even made it. She preemptively refuted him by ACCIDENT. He lost a debate to a fucking pre-recorded video. That is how insanely trash he is at discourse.

He even claimed that Anita's one minute narration only video game story summary fails the Bechdel test. A story summary without any actual dialog from a nonexistent game. You know what also fails the Bechdel test? A minute of silence. But he is rational. He also claimed that not all videogames present "concepts of normalcy" because of Plants vs Zombies. Comedy and caricature has nothing to do with the real world according to the renowned pop culture critic Phil Mason. Then showed clips from the Simpsons to make a point about the real world.

+Zeredek Or how in her first video, she points out that in a lot of games it's a male protagonist versus a male antagonist, fighting over a female character (which amidst a lot of "well, duh, Anita, I already knew that" was actually kind of an interesting observation) and pointed out that the opening of Double Dragon was kind of tacky, his response was "well no it's because he loves her!" and then went to ask "What, do you think the protagonist of Double Dragon should have just gone back to washing his car?" It's like... the problem with picking apart these arguments is that they have so much pure nonsense and they're so fucking out there that you don't even know where to begin.

To be fair, when you're from an echochamber like Thunderf1234t is, any disagreement looks like a bloodbath. I mean, look at the guy. He can't even argue against a generic creationist without falling apart. A generic person at your local pride rally does far, far better against creationists on a *regular basis*. That's WHY he is making videos like that. In videos, people can't disagree, and he can make up whatever argument he wants.

@@radschele1815 It's the seldomness of happy or good events that make them so valuable. An unnaturally unhappy individual will cherish them all the more than an unnaturally happy individual. Point goes to the unhappy. When things are going well, as they are supposed to be, people tend not to take notice or give attention to the momentary events. It is when things go awry, or in unintended ways, that people afford their attention towards. Which is the same reason that most news is bad news. It grabs attention better. Point goes to the unhappy. A glass that is half full of liquid, through evaporation and other physical reactions, will contain less than half of its contents within moments. Science says the glass is half empty. Point goes to the unhappy. Negative begets negative, positive begets positive. Love and be loved. Be glad to be less than happy, in fact, be downright happy about it! It just means you're a person.

"That gif of her makes my blood boil." My first instinct is to laugh, but I think that would be mean of me. Videos like these, and the ever increasing right wing nature of these skeptics has driven me away from them. There is no exact moment that i realized i was wrong, it was a slow build up over time and it wasnt something someone could explain to me in a rational argument that i could digest and internalize all at once. It took time, and i had to come to the realization myself. I just wanted to say thank you for being one of the many voices that helped me realized that alot of what these guys were saying was disingenuous scare mongering.

I don't understand why you'd have to feel like a fool, what happened was outrageous no matter what "side" you were on. On one side, you'd only see people harassing a woman for allegedly having multiple affairs and on the other, you'd see many people you wanted to trust spit at your face and treating you like garbage no matter if you cared about Quinn or not. As a convinced socialist and an avid gamer (to the point where I wrote for a website and was invited to a whole lot of events by publishers), it was complicated. It wasn't the first time I encountered SJW, but even trying to explain what happened during those events would flag me as a right-wing women harasser deserving hate mail, doxxing and death threats on a weekly basis at least. When I tried to talk about the analyses of Sarkeesian on video games to devs or publishers, they would feel embarrassed because they often work a lot and need to cut down many things for a game to be out in time, giving all they have to make it the best experience possible from pure passion and the best intentions, just to be told by some people that their work promotes racism and sexism while they struggle with the publishers for them to make the games how they want. Seriously, the devs are treated like shit on a daily basis (bad working conditions + the old nerd stigma) and having this on top was a huge disappointment for quite a lot of those I met. There are huge structural issues in the gaming industry and I wish we could fix them. When people say we need more women in the industry, I'm like "Sure, why not ?" When people say that we need to find a better way to make games, with decent work conditions like an appropriate staff and give up "Please the shareholders at all cost" system, I'm full on board. In the end, I changed my way of checking things. I listen to the people who are experts in a field, then try to see if their sources hold up to the scientific method. I take an example, Peterson, the guy is an expert in his field, but he tells so many things that aren't backed by actual science that I can't trust him. First, he criticizes the methods of psychoanalysts by saying most of them only want to find sexual trauma in people's past to explain their disorders, then proceeds to suck on Jung's dick even though most of his work is pulled of his ass or he blabbers about the existence of God and Jesus as archetypes, maintaining a perpetual confusion between what is true and what is not. When I want to learn on feminism, I do the same and listen to experts in social sciences, then proceed to check their sources. But in the same way, I often see psychoanalysis papers as a foundation to the works they claim are science. It makes them untrustworthy to me. I have to check on other sources to find something that doesn't rely on pseudo-science, but that rules out many people as untrustworthy when I'm looking for facts, even though I want to agree on the idea that we should be treated with more equity.

Watching this now is incredibly gratifying. I was once young, on the internet, and discovering atheism. I was also a teen girl. It already hurt so much when I just wanted to watch videos about anime or games and other hobbies that are normal for kids to have, only for there to be misogynist "jokes" inserted in by 30 something year old men making top tens about kids' games like Mario, Megaman, and Banjo. I was also carrying a lot of trauma so the "top ten hottest women" lists were also very uncomfortable to me. This was the end of the 2000s and early 2010s. I can't look back on any of that stuff fondly now. Atheist content was the one avenue I had that was even the smallest bit of validating, as it would often criticize homophobia. When the anti-feminist phase of atheist content swung by, it was scary. All of the feminist talking points they were demonizing actually made a lot of sense to me, but it was met with seething vitriol by the one community I felt I could trust. I just felt ashamed that my first instinct was to agree with feminism. The worst was how angry they got at feminists bringing up sexual assault and how we normalize it, as I was struggling with coming to terms with being a victim of it myself. Amazing Atheist very infamously told a woman she deserved to be raped because she was a feminist. To add to that, the made up fearmongering over false accusations by anti feminists only scared me from saying anything because I didn't have hard proof of things that happened, which would make me an evil "false accuser". Truly vile, I have no qualms saying it was damaging. Thankfully, now I'm still atheist, but also as radical of a feminist you can possibly be lmao. Just want to drop a retroactive thanks to Hbomb for this, though I wish I found it sooner.

Also: how do you even know that your comment was deleted? The Poster NEVER is shown that their post is no longer visible and doesn't get a notification of the deletion. You did value the chance of deletion so much that you went into the comment thread a second time to see it with a different account or not logged in? If you did not change profiles, there are more than enough explanations for your post having vanished, like it being so far down that you didn't bother to check up on it. Comments do not stay in the position you originally posted them in, they end up down where they chronologically were posted and with a pretty lively thread that would mean VERY far down. Or you did write the post but it failed to actually save. Happens occasionally, especially when the website is busy like it could be with the amount of interest generated through the said trailer. Finally if in YOUR view it truly is gone... you might have wanted to edit the post and simply deleted it, forgetting that later on. Actually with how KZbin comments work that is the only way you would be shown that your post actually has gone.

Not exactly one of my proudest memories but I was a real, real, REAL big fan of Thunderf00t back in high school. Yes, I was that guy. The pseudo intellectual who was a B student and thought all my little Christian fellow students were idiots who would follow a false belief in an invisible man: no joke, I once called out a girl for wearing a crucifix because "lawl, would you put an electric chair around your neck?" I didn't even know her name. My steady diet of atheism stuff kept me that guy. And then this Anita Sarkesian character came out, who was just wrong and bad and wrong and trying to take my video games and wrong and bad and didn't know what she was talking about and how she should just stop because what does she know about anything! Why do I need to watch her videos: she's wrong! And my idol Thunderf00t was always willing show the ridiculousness of Anita. I mean, she rails against this 'supposed' anti-woman sentiment by characters being drawn ludicrously sexy but she was wearing a push up bra and had sexy make-up! Clearly this Feminazi was an animal that needed to be shut up! And I CLEARLY didn't have a problem with women because I was a liberal white boy who would have voted for Obama if I was old enough! Sure it is wrong to be sending death threats, BUT, really she's just the worst! I, uhh, came back from a pretty dark ledge. I think back to those times and am just so fucking glad I barely missed red pill. I wasn't quite ready to go along with "women should be silent, and pretty" but I was doing the "how is it fair that women are usually given parental preference in custody battles?!" type shtick. I read back on some of my old journal entries... it is fucking appalling. How weird in this 15 page screed against terrible actors who should not be acting that they just so happen to ALL be women! Or stuff that basically amounts to "the problem with feminism is that women are saying it." I think it's something more general. Thunderf00t always gets really cross when bullshit gets money, because he's a research scientist and it breaks his heart seeing money going down the drain when he knows he can put it to a really good use. He's made a lot of videos on pseudo-science and how much attention and money it gets. In the case of Anita Sarkeesian it got the better of him, not only because she got hundreds of thousands of dollars, but because she was using video games and pop culture, giving the sense of no effort being put in.

@@MrJason005 But so what? People make money from KZbin and funding platforms all the time. Anita used a lot of that money on making those videos, making appearances at conventions to discuss the portrayal of women in media in general, etc. If she has a lot of surplus money and she spends it on personal, non-related things to the cause of feminism then that's fine. She's human, it's a job to her, she has personal interests. No one is being coerced into paying her money, her supporters willingly, with their free will, give her money, as does she make money through ad revenue like every other KZbinr. You can disagree with her points all you want, but I just don't get this argument. She's making a living off this. She's not a charity organisation. @seigeengine
@seigeengine 3 ай бұрын
That's actually a very good way of conceiving of the difference, because anything else is almost certainly a product of sexism. Men and women are for most purposes essentially identical. Also, breasts are a particularly funny example, because human breasts have this odd feature in that they're enlarged seemingly for no reason other than attracting men. Other primate breasts do enlarge somewhat during lactation, but they aren't permanently enlarged like in humans. That is, of any trait of women, you've picked the exact one that arguably does "exist" (in so far as they aren't flat) entirely for male pleasure.

Sure, there are plenty of new atheists and anti-feminists are adults, but let's face it, as teenagers, we don't always have the greatest reasoning skills. So, I think eventually a large portion of these people would grow up and realize that their views are just bullshit, especially with feminism. Two, I think it's safe to say internet anti-feminists are only relevant on the internet. Like, seriously, the only time when I saw any anti-feminist try to do anything outside the internet was Sargon's petition to ban social justice classes at universities. So, don't worry too much about Thunderf00t and other similar channels.

+Manny Akintunde What effects on society though? Anti-feminists will often bring up things like the draft, or men having higher completed suicide rates, (which women actually attempt more than men, as well as having higher rates of depression) or court custody stuff, but none of those things were caused by feminism or brought about because feminists advocated for them. Those are all archaic institutions with rules and biases that assume women are too weak to fight, that their primary role in society is to rear children, etc. In other words, they're aspects of patriarchy. (yeah I know you probably hate that word, but deal with it) Feminists try to tear down those very gender stereotypes, the same gender stereotypes that say only men should go to war, that only women should raise children, that only women can get sexually assaulted/raped, etc. Meanwhile, anti-feminists often vehemently try and DEFEND those very same gender stereotypes that cause all of the problems they complain about, saying that it's just how we "naturally" are, that we "can't fight biology," etc. It's almost as if they don't actually care about the plight of men or about solving those problems but rather just to use them as "gotcha" tactics against feminists.
@eakintunde84

Kendall Raine I don't see feminists trying to open up domestic violence shelters for men, even when they make up to 40 percent of the victims. Where are the feminist advocating for changing the family court system or ending the archaic alimony system? I can tell you that most anti-feminists(myself included) believe in gender equality. That is equality of opportunity and not equality of outcome. If a woman can prove she is qualified for the position then she should have to have it. The ones that don't are usually traditionalists that want to turn the clock back to the 1950's. On those gender stereotypes or roles. I would argue that we should make it up to each person to choose to live their life. If a woman wants to be a stay at home mom, that is her choice. She shouldn't be shamed for it. Just as if she chose to be a career woman. Same thing with stay at home dads. In our desire to break down gender roles, let's be careful not to shame those who might decide to embrace them. I agree that feminism or the women's liberation movement has done a lot of good women over the years. This third wave feminism, not so much.
@kenirainseeker539
@kenirainseeker539 8 жыл бұрын
Manny Akintunde The problem with the family court system stems from the very thing feminists try to dismantle, that being, gender assumptions/stereotypes. You can't solve the bias in courts until you address what causes it, which is constantly assuming a woman's purpose is to care for children. We need to stop associating child-rearing with "women's work" and make it more socially acceptable for men to raise and interact with children. Not only would that reduce bias in courtrooms, but the social acceptance of men interacting with children would mean less men might feel inclined to abandon their kids. Unfortunately a lot of judges are old people set in traditional ways. Not to mention, things aren't always skewed in favor of the woman. There have been times where children were awarded to extremely abusive fathers. Plus there was a study done that showed fathers actually get custody much of the time if they actually fight for custody, and the reason most women get custody is because the man didn't want it anyway. DV centers for men do exist, however, the problem is that they're never government-funded. It's not feminists you need to convince as much as it is the government that male DV is a problem that deserves to have funding going into it. Lack of recognition for male victims is also not something created/started by feminism, so that's not an "effect on society" by feminism either. It's another aspect of archaic gender stereotypes that assume a woman is too weak to ever harm a man. This hurts both men and women, as feminists often point out. It's an assumption that's existed for centuries, it certainly didn't begin with feminism. Homophobia also plays a part in this, as most male victims were harmed by other men, and as a result, the victims are blamed for being gay rather than actually helped. If you think male victims are ignored now, go back to a time before feminism was a thing, and see how much MORE ignored they were then. They weren't even on the radar. Imagine in 1950, you're a gay man who was just assaulted or raped by your boyfriend, so you go to the police for help. You'd probably be laughed at and then arrested yourself due to anti-sodomy laws for admitting you had sex with a man. I'm not sure where you get your statistics, but the majority of intimate partner violence is done to women, but you're absolutely right that men are victims too. When men are victims though, much of the time the perpetrator is also male, so in these situations where a male is the victim of another male, I imagine it can be difficult to convince that male to go into a men's DV shelter where he will likely be bunking with other males. www.americanbar.org/groups/domestic_violence/resources/statistics.html "Sexual violence against men is also mainly male violence: 70% of rapes, 86% of physical assaults, and 65% of stalking acts were perpetrated by men." Note I'm not bringing up this point to say "men are bad," but to point out that a victimized man might not feel safe in a men's shelter where he's with other men if he's been victimized by another man, which is likely to be true because this seems to be the case for most male victims. If you talk to anyone who's ever been in a homeless shelter, which aren't always male/female segregated, there's a lot of rape that goes on there, so that can be a concern. It could also simply be the case that the government doesn't fund men's shelters because it doesn't view it as prevalent a problem as violence against women, which is technically true, but of course just because it happens less often to men doesn't mean it isn't worth funding and dealing with. If it were up to me, I'd give everyone their own room with locks where they can feel safe and secure, but that would cost a lot of money and nobody seems to like shelling out taxes... Feminists largely don't disagree with you here, either. I've never met a single one that would oppose someone being allowed to be a stay at home mom if they choose to do so based on a genuine desire, and not just because they were raised/groomed to be that way. They just don't want it to be an expectation on women just because they're women, or have girls raised as future housewives just because they're girls, and don't exclude the possibility of a stay at home dad, either. Although nowdays, it's usually pretty unrealistic for poorer or middle class families to do either, given how hard it is to support a family on a single income. Most feminists actually don't advocate "equality in result" necessarily, you might be mistaking it for when they point out huge disparities that means they're advocating for complete 50/50 results. When in reality they're merely pointing out the disparity and suggesting that there may be inequality in opportunity, as you put it. It's not even just as simple as "opportunity vs result" either. Even if women have completely equal legal and financial opportunities to men, there's a social and cultural aspect to this as well that we can't just deny. Young girls are still largely raised a certain way and young boys are raised in another way, and groomed straight from birth to have certain interests based on their gender. Have you ever been to a baby shower before? I'm asking this because it's still rather common for parents to attempt to force very stereotypical gender roles on their children before they're even born. You learn from the doctor that your baby will be born male, and everyone buys him sports items, science things, action figures. Why is that chemistry sets and the like are "boys" toys, anyway? We can't deny this grooming has an affect on the things they decide to do as adults. Boys are often taught that being assertive is good, but girls are often taught to be more passive and told that if they're assertive, they're being "bitchy," which could explain why women are less likely than men to ask their bosses for raises or promotions. My final point is that feminists are not a hivemind. Feminism is actually a lot like atheism; there's not really any solid, set-in-stone doctrine or set of beliefs you have to follow in order to call yourself one. The only requirement for being an atheist is a disbelief in any god or gods, while feminism is even less clearly defined than that. There's no "official feminist church" or any kind of singular feminist organization that is considered the final authority on feminism, just like there isn't any for atheism either, unlike say, the catholic church, that has an official and clear hierarchy with the pope at the top. Feminism is a wide label that encompasses many many different people with completely different viewpoints. I consider myself a feminist, but there are some people who also consider themselves feminists who I would call blathering idiots. There's intersectional feminism, TERFs, etc...it's a pretty wide range of ideals. So it's impossible to really say, "Why aren't feminists doing this or that?" Well...WHICH feminists are you talking about? Because chances are, there are some who ARE doing so-and-so thing, and some who aren't.

Kendall Raine You might be surprised just how many men in heterosexual relationships are victims of domestic violence. Remember abuse does not have to be physical, it can be mental and emotional. I think both men and woman should be advocating for changes in the family court law. If support gets large enough then family court laws will change. While I agree that parents groom their children to their assigned gender type. It's also important to point out that a child's gender shapes their personal interests to a degree. Girls tend to play with dolls, play dress up and are more social by choice. While boys tend to prefer the typical toys like legos, rough housing and such. Off course, there will be some boys interested in girly things and vice versa. I think it's better to simply encourage children to pursue their interests and passions whatever they are.

I liked his anti-sjw content and stuck around as a subscriber to his channel. At this point, I should mention that I grew up Mormon, and then later evangelical Christian when my family left the church. In about 2018, I started watching his "Why People Laugh At Creationists" videos. They're long, rambling, horrible meme-filled things, but he brought up some important things about burden of proof and basing decisions on evidence. This lead me to have a crisis of faith, and in conjunction with watching and reading a lot of christian apologists, I told myself I'd give the other side a try. This led me to watching creators such as Genetically modified skeptic, cosmic skeptic, and others of the 2nd-wave atheist KZbinrs. One thing I noticed was especially from GMS CS was their focus on morality and ethics. On my journey through that, I learned a lot of my preconceptions about sexuality and gender identity were plain wrong. This caused me to rethink everything I had thought about social justice, and eventually I ended up here.

The second reboot/sequel Ghostbuster Afterlife was actually decent. I mean it was basically 2 hours of fan service, but it was good fan service and I'd give it 7/10.

@@BobCassidy so that's why people made multiple videos about the female cast, because it wasn't about women!

That's literally the thing Thunderf00t is talking about in that video, lol. His primary point in the video is basically "if your focus is on how 'feminist' and 'girl power' you are, your focus isn't on making a good film." It's a criticism of corporate pandering and it's displacement of the emphasis on a good film. The video also contains several other points, including how it's a bad reboot that fundamentally does not understand the format of what it's rebooting, and how it's rather racist and sexist.

By the way, people who actually make games come up with concepts for games they'll never make all the fucking time. Either it'll take too long, they're busy, the concept is bad, or it's just one of those projects you don't do. Expecting a game reviewer to make a game they said they had an idea for is one of the most unreasonable expectations you can hold any human to.

I have never heard of half these basement dwellers until your videos. Good god are they embarrassing. I legitimately feel so much 2nd hand embarrassment that they and their followers are a thing. Men with a persecution complex and some serious mommy issues. Yikes.

Is he even an expert in something? I tried looking for his "rich" contributions to the world of science, but couldn't find it because of all his anti-Anita stuff. Finally, when I found some, it turned out he once did a thing with water and sugar. And it seems he was only an assistant there. Doesn't sound like a great expert to me...

+Арсений Брилёв He's done some physics work and published a number of papers, most notably some stuff on alkali metals. I don't know the full extent, though. Whatever he does in the lab, he's a fucking idiot when he opens his mouth on anything else, be it religion or social sciences.

Thunderf00t is indeed right that it is easier to criticize than to create... While spending most of his time criticizing rather than creating something related to the field he is criticizing. Irony of ironies

You were watching Thunderf00t's video, where he makes reasonable arguments, instead of watching a hit piece where a fraud lies to you in order to insult a stranger.
