Love your videos...never been spooled...Whenever I get that low I just point the rod at the fish (so ya don't break your pole) and put my hand on the spool...just breaks the fish off and lose a lure not all the line ......

I'm thinking you were spooled by a sturgeon (or a really large muskie)...I've never seen a Niagara river salmon or trout take line out like that. A larger spool may not have saved you on whatever you hooked into there...

Suggest having a glow version, night fishing is a popular method and it would be a great alternative to the glow in the dark spoons like a cleo’s

Awesome video man! Crazy seeing somebody get spooled haha, I fished the lower Niagara for the first time this October, its truly a different world down there! I missed 3 salmon but landed some nice walleye, definitely going to be back next October!

I finally got into some salmon after 2 years. Not enough time and bad luck but man after hooking into some what still fresh kings i can see how you can get spooled if you don’t have the proper reel. I was using 2500 reel with braid and still got close to being spooled. Needless to say not long after i got dedicated setup with a bigger reel.

congrats on getting into the salmon :)

Hello IVO - Sad you had to loose that first fish with the lost of your new stingeye spinner - it must of been one hell of a big strong fish to have your spool loose all of the line - once fishing in salt water same thing happened to me but it was not a fish but a party boat caught my lure and snapped my line lucky I had a extra spool ( whew ) good advice to let all your subscribers know to bring along a extra spool or a rod and reel - good video - keep them coming .

@thundermistlures5 жыл бұрын
....I like using the size 3 for bass, walleye, and trout as well, but that size will catch a variety of fish for you :) It's a bit small for salmon unless you change the hook to a bigger size :)
@Thomaschgg5 жыл бұрын
Just block the fish before your reel runs out of line, This fish has no chance of survival anymore with hundreds of meters of line attached to it. I like your videos but this was a little stupid friend.

I agree with an earlier comment a break off is better than leaving all that line in the water with a lure attached as the salmon will shed the hook when the line goes slack!
@alex1116835 жыл бұрын
I really like your lures and video. I just don't really like how you dealt with the first fish. Now it has a giant lure in it's mouth and 200-300 yards of line attached. You should've tilted your rod down and broke off or even better; you know your fishing for big fish so bring the appropriate reel!

So I've got about a half dozen minnows downstairs that don't look like there gonna get used this year. Just wondering whether I should release them (back in to the same body of water). When I took them the water temperature was like high 60s and now it's in the forties. Totally different time of year, will they survive if I put em back?
@thundermistlures5 жыл бұрын
You can slowly bring your existing water temp up by adding ice cubes a bit at a time to climatize the minnows - then you will be able to easily release them (in the same body of water) and they will be fine :)

Do you have any recommendations for catching freshwater striped bass with thunder mist lures?
@thundermistlures5 жыл бұрын
...if you like using live bait, check out the T-Turn Bait rig for Stripers #17B...if you like to jig, you can use the Flexi Jigs or the Stingnose Jigging spoons...of course, the Stingeye Spinners will also work well, as will the American Smelt - so it boils down to how you like to fish for them....BTW...if you like to use topwater, stay tuned because in March, there will be a new Thundermsint Top Water lure and it is amazing :)
