If you think of the "ooing" as an instrument soloing for the intro and then for the uplifting ending, that might help.
@kellyt5341 Жыл бұрын
According to the voice coaches that reacted to 'Hi Ren' they said to keep pitch on the ooing is much harder than any word. A master can keep it in pitch sitting down or moving around. So that went over most musicians heads. People that don't like it or make fun, try it yourself to see how....'easy it is'...lol. Good luck.

I take it as its him singing out untethered and free. The beginning when he was full of hope and ready to fight those evil forces. And then it goes away when Bad Ren enters, and doesnt restart until the end after hes beaten Bad Ren back down. And can once again do what he wants and sing free and unhindered by any rules and create. Him now.

I wrote this introduction to Ren when I first discovered him earlier this year, as there wasn’t a Wikipedia entry for people to look him up prior to March 2023. I have posted this info to every “Hi Ren” reaction I have come across since, and I hope it will be of some use to the uninitiated. “Hi Ren” is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered over 9 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren is an independent artist/singer/songwriter/busker, plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern-day bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on KZbin are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.” Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake),” just to name a few. As I recently discovered that Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity,” “Feeling Good/Trouble So High/Masterblaster (Jammin'),” “What Went Wrong” Part I&II) that deserve attention. Also, his collaborations with Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), Orlean ("Jessica"), his former bandmate Romain Axisa (“French Song”), are all great. Last but not least, Ren’s busking sessions with Liv Sangster are awesome. "The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are amazing and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "Watch Out," “War Pigs,” “Roadhouse Blues,” "My Generation," “Paint It Black,” "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong” are awesome. On “These Boots Are Made For Walking,” “Praise You” (Fatboy Slim Cover), “What Kind Of Woman Is This,” all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. The band, at least for the time being, performed their last official busking session and gave their last concert in September of last year (2022) due to the fact that Ren was leaving for Canada to undergo specialized medical care and surgeries for his multiple health issues. In anticipation of his stay in Canada, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work. Ren just released his newest song, “Illest Of Our Time,” on his birthday, March 29.

Brief Ren bio for those who don't know: Ren contracted Lyme disease and an autoimmune deficiency at 17 -- was MISdiagnosed as bipolar -- prescribed psychotropic meds that actually "fed" his psychosis -- he is still in treatment and has a GoFundMe account to help pay medical bills -- the pig is a butcher, Ren's take on many doctors in the mental health world......the discordant guitar and vocals represent the inner chaos in Ren's mind, as do the blinking lights......

Welcome to the world of Ren and his rabbit hole! It is an amazing journey, and definitely worth exploring. No two songs from Ren are the same, so expect the unexpected. He is a musical and creative genius, and his talent is on another level. He has self-described his genre of music as "Bardcore," which I think is very fitting. You really can't go wrong with any of his songs. I would recommend "Sick Boi" next as it is basically a follow-up to this one. I would highly recommend "The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full) after that. It is considered an artistic masterpiece by many people, and it showcases his incredible storytelling talent perfectly. I would definitely recommend "Money Game Part 1" and "Money Game Part 2" at some point. He is an incredible rapper, and "Illest of Our Time," "Genesis," "Losing It," and "What You Want" are great examples of that. To hear his vocal ability check out "Chalk Outlines (feat Chinchilla) (Live) and "How to be Me (feat Chinchilla) (Live)." He also does amazing live street performances (known as busking) with his friend Sam Tompkins and his band The Big Push. I highly recommend "Ren & Sam Tompkins - "Earned It/Man's World/Falling" and "The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" to experience that aspect of his talent. The fact that this is a live capture (4th take I believe) is super impressive. Personally, I love the fact that he comes in with the crazy D5 staccati.... *NOBODY* expects the D5 staccati !! LOL He can *sing* sing. He plays some tasty (mostly blues-influenced) electric guitar & bass. He can produce tracks from scratch. He can also rap his arse off. In fact, I'll stop typing now, since I've checked that Jens Randolff has already stopped by your comments. That guy is doing great work! If you only listen to metal / metal-adjacent music, don't bother looking into more Ren. Hopefully you're up for extending yourself a bit tho- this lad has all sorts of cool / weird / funny / thought-provoking stuff which can be any mix of life-enriching, hilarious, eyebrow-raisingly impressive.... I'm generally a Soundgarden, Opeth, Tool, more recently Jinjer kinda guy, but I appreciate folk who exude *quality* in what they do, & Ren is one of them. ;)

He's talking to the voice inside his head that's trying to bring him down. Like a demon. Very relatable. What's biggest in this is definitely the lyrics. He has different music than this but with equally meaningful lyrics. Sick Boi would be my next recommendation. It's my favorite from what I've heard so far. Somewhere there is a comment or something written by Ren, a story about what happened to him long ago, I can't find it atm though, but the gist of it was that he was hearing a literal voice in his head before he was sick, bringing him down, telling him to do bad things and what not, but one day he screamed at it to stop harassing him, and it did, but then he got sick. Autoimmunity. Quite sad and insane. I wish I could remember where I saw it. If I do I'll post it here.

You failed to understand the musical intro and the musical end. The vocal combines the minor with the diminished. The diminished was prohibited for use by the church because it was seen as satanic. The ending vocal with the flashing lights represents the personality integration of REN’s shadow and lightness traits. He does kill the darkness but stands with it by his side. It is like an onion with many layers to peel or an eternal dance that changes steps. The vocals you question are REN’s musical metaphor for his struggle and serenity that comes accepting the things you cannot change. The courage to change the things you can and the wisdom through to know the difference. 14:44 😅

@serendipitish Жыл бұрын
It's a common English tongue-twister, learned by most as children (along with "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers" and "rubber baby buggy bumpers"). Most people are chuckling there in reactions because Ren used that line in his earlier song "Money Game Part 2"; that anti capitalist rap was then dubbed over video of Eminem's rap battle in "8 Mile", and the gifs went around as a popular meme a few years ago. Lots of people who have no idea what the original song or artist was have seen "Em" rapping "she sells sea shells..." so it works as a mockery of derivative rap. And for Ren fans, they recognize a nod to his earlier song, and know his inner critic really is talking about his own writing. But I think it works without that knowledge too (for English speakers at least), because the line is such a childhood thing; mocking him by comparing his songwriting to a simplistic nursery rhyme, delivered in a monotone with no cadence.

Except I liked the oooing he sang, Thunder Rooster did not, so he does not represent me. The oooing on pitch it MUCH harder than any spoken words, look at the professional voice coach reactions. He was flexing his vocals.

Nice reaction, you will have a lot of fun exploring the rabbit hole that is Ren. I you are a rocker I think you will enjoy him doing a cover of War Pigs with the Big Push (street performance in Brighton with excellent sound quality). He has lots of older singing and rap videos online. He cant be put in a genre he does it all very well.

Great reaction, thank you ! Shout out to Ren !! Not many people know but Ren has a 'very small' channel called Ren's Room where he recording a few AMAZING artists in his home studio about 6yrs ago. They include Orlean, from his 'Jessica' song, Joe Hitchcock ( Amazing singer and guitarist ), Jovta, Khanyisa and Pilar Onares. I hope one day he adds more. The channel only has 175 subscribers to date. I encourage everyone to go check them all out. Just sharing the love ❤

I think his guitar is tuned to drop D because that low E string is to heavy for an acoustic guitar 🎸

Great video but you're intro and outro music are way too loud. It drowns out your voice. I would switch to drums or just turn the volume to like one.

this is one of the few genuine reactions to Ren that i have seen . i needed time to process what i had just seen .he just digs too deep to let you give an instant response. fifty years of mental illness have made me a cynical bastard . this ones real ,, that ones not , thats fake , your fake .your false . bullshit,,, turn the tears on , turn the tears off . oh please believe me, its a genuine reaction, hit like and subscribe. ........This guys reaction is a mirror of my own .i need time to process.PEACE

SUGGESTION FOR EDITS: either EAT THE MIC, or lower the backing track. I can’t hear what you are saying bro.
