Hua Hsu, a writer and scholar, tells stories of the concerts that formed him-as a listener among others, whether packed into the same club or trading tapes via primitive online forums-as he plays recordings of the same (or similar) events, from San Jose house shows to Lollapalooza to Oakland raves. He reflects on the desire to capture those formative experiences and on the tapes, T-shirts, KZbin videos, and anecdotes of fellow fans that have both preserved and reordered his memories.
