There's debate IIRC. Usually, marines are considered sterile, to prevent them from multiplying. However, Space Wolves either fuck or brag about fucking and the Salamanders specifically are encouraged to keep in contact with their families, wives, children, so as to not lose their connection to humanity. I think the answer is probably, can't make babies, usually disciplined not to engage in the act, maybe some can still do it and probably most have the urge indoctrinated out of them.

Plenty of folks here already know this, but Dark Angels were inspired by a poem called "Dark Angel" by a poet called Lionel Johnson. It basically dealt with the author feeling bad about his repressed homosexuality. His Dark Angel being a big sexy man who Lionel, being in a homophobic culture, couldn't be with. His big secret he has to hide. I sorta wish they'd just gone with "Our Primarch Likes Men" as their big dark secret. But, I dunno, I fear a lot of the 40k player base even all these years on harbours the very same homophobia Lionel Johnson feared.

if it you retconned it to that the dark angels would be less interesting. romantic relationships are not a big part of 40k either whereas corruption is a big part of the universe.

@@westhawk7259 I see your point, though equally, like Tom and Ben say, "We had some marines turn to Chaos" is like... OK...? And...? Every chapter has that. It's not unique enough. I mean, the Blood Angels are angst vampires, the Space Wolves are Furries. The Dark Angels, their big damn super secret is, some turned to Chaos. Woop. Big woop. At the very least, I liked the old fan theory that the fallen were secretly the actual Loyalists. That at least was something. Wouldn't necessarily make a lick of sense, but it _would_ have been _something._

@@beardedbear9901 some fallen are loyalist they're now called rizen I think and they're with the lion. If I remember correctly they had the most out of the loyalists legions turn traitor and its a stain on them which is why they lie and murder so much

I meant, the old fan theory was that the schism in the Dark Angels was that the ones who "stayed loyal" secretly turned to Chaos and "the fallen" were a victim of a smear campaign but were secretly always loyal. Again, wouldn't necessarily have made sense, but it could have been fun.
