Your instructions are very clear both verbally & what you are doing with your hands. I've always set my dye for 24 hrs, but I'm gonna try 48. I've got 2pair of white pants to work with, we'll see how well I follow instructions in 48. Thanks!

Hi there! let's say you wanted to use the original color if that pants and incorporate a pattern with that. Would you just go surface deep with the dye?

Yes that is a way of dyeing them, making sure you do not add too much dye ... a couple ways to help with that... I normally soak my items and then spin out the excess liquid with my washer... this way the tee (or pants) are barely damp, this helps the dye soak into the deeper folds of the fabric ... BUT, if you just wring the pants out by hand, this will leave the fabric more damp... then when you tie and dye, the dyes will not soak into the deeper parts of the folds as easily as there is more liquid in there.... this will leave more of the natural color of the pants Another thing you can do is to tie them tightly with sinew, this will help block the dyes from soaking in so far also, if you are laying the pants flat, as in just one layer, you have not folded them in half in any way ... then you can dye one side with color and then add plain or thickened water to the other side and then batch with the dye side down, this will leave a lot of original color as well Have fun and I wish you success on your project!

yes, the are Cotton Dockers in light tan and yes you can dye light color items with darker colors.... and even the yellow came out great ... thank you

I noticed they aren't flat white does that affect the color in the end or does it matter?

nope, these were off white and I have also dyed tan pants.... it may effect the colors slightly, but I have been able to get yellow to show up so it does not effect it much

have you ever tried to tie dye a suit? At least a cotton blazer of some sort? I figure I can just tie die nice enough pants, I've gotten an awesome looking tie dye button up. But I've always wanted to be that guy in a tie dye suit. Figure the same idea of getting a cheap coat from goodwill or something or just something almost costume quality and white from amazon. I do have a blazer thats basically a thin piece of tan corduroy that I like to wear, so I imagine if I find one that is like that but with something like cotton it would work fine just might have to do some ironing after washing

I have not found a cotton suit jacket yet to dye, but YES, I have always wanted a tie-dye suit ... I have dyed a couple regular coats that I found in tan and cotton, but most recently I found a Carhart coat in black, I use Rit Color Remover to pull some color out and then I dyed it in rainbow 😁😎✌🏻

Might of been asked this already, but where do you buy your dye at? All I can found is Rit and I have never really liked how it dyes for me.

I use Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes. mostly cotton is good... the more poly in them, then the lighter the colors will be... I have dyed things that were 80% cotton and they looked great .... 50/50 will look faded, but you can still do it, I found that if I used primary colors on a 50/50 it still looked good

HELP PLEASE. HAVING TROUBLE WITH KEEPING THE COLOR!! I LET THE DYE SIT FOR 18 HRS USUALLY AND WHEN I RINSE AND WASH THE COLORS HAVE BEEN FADING. I'M USING TULIP COLOR ATM. CAN YOU HELP OR MAKE A SUGGESTION PLEASE?

Tulip dyes are very weak overall. I would buy procion MX dyes from dharma or one of the other websites in the description of the video

You can also mix the tulip dyes with a little less water than recommended, and pick up some soda ash (sodium carbonate or ph increaser), to mix with a bit of water and batch before dying with tulip...(and don't mix the tulip dyes until everything is soaked, folded, and tied...and you are ready to apply dye). It works better that way...but I agree with Gdhttu--go with Procion MX dyes.
