I loved the movie, and I watched it before reading the book, but the book was definitely better particularly when it came to the ending. The characters are so complex. It's great to already have a very vivid picture in mind of the characters and setting from the movie as you're reading the book, though

I don't like that alternation to the original story, that Jean knows she's a lesbian beforehand, feels like a substantial part of her struggle is taken away from the plot. Anyways, I'm intrigued to see the film.

The book brought out a lot more about Charlie. I’m fine that the film spells Jean’s “secret” ahead of time. Preferred the book’s ending, but the film was a genuine success. I ran across it on line, and being a fan of Anna Paquin, watched it. Glad I did. I then read the book immediately thereafter.
