All you have to do is round the sharp edge of the cup by sanding, to avoid it snagging up on the Pipe. A tip an old timer gave me a long time ago.

Cap looks good 👍. I think with a 1/8 gap no land your root would have penetrated as well.

The cap was good. The root was way too cold for the gap and land. Can't be doing that if you want to pass your weld test. The root as got to be good the whole way

1/8” to a 5/32” gap turn the machine to 150 amps using pedal to control the heat and no landing and for the root I prefer a #6 cup, nice looking cap

Tough using a pedal in the field sometimes, but for the shop, a pedal works

@@ypaulbrown it’s been a while since I’ve been in the field but boiler tubing 105 wall to 135 wall I would set it at 90 amps and closer to a 3/32” gap but still on pipe like that probably 130 to 140 amps with the bigger gap

Personally (at the moment anyway) I work with a 2mm root, 2mm landing, 120A, (but around 90A for the cap) free hand, button torch, . I'd definitely like to get the hang of this walking technique though; I'm sure it could make some situations easier.

Great video. I catch myself really bearing down on the cup and have to make a conscious effort not too.

How many methods/processes/techniques are there to weld/solder aluminum? I know the most common one is AC TIG welding but I don't have that electrical current capability on my welding machine.

Just curious, why would this be done with TIG vs. Stick?

Tig is generally stronger and higher quality weld. Depending on the job will dictate which method and weld should be used.

I never liked that method of tacking pipe. Especially on small size pipe. I’ll do two, one @12 o clock and one @6 o clock

Why would u leave a landing on a tight root
@sethhoward9300
@sethhoward9300 2 жыл бұрын
That root is very rough . Will not pass in the field. Heat was way too cold to try and burn a 1/8 wire in a 3/32 gap

Need more heat? Why not crank the amps and just run your pedal man?

Not bad but this is way too wide, should've ran a two bead cap and I don't know any shop that let's you run two fillers at the same time. Could be the difference between countries tho.
