Brings back good memories Thanks Karl. First time I climbed it 2010 on the way down l was talking to a Thai man who worked on the mountain he told me he climbed up it three or four times a day then he pulled up his trouser leg and he had a wooden leg from the knee down.

It can be very humbling when you find out what some of the locals do can't it? The most humbling is thinking about the people who built these places. cheers

Actually I do find that place totally rewarding. it's unusual in that it's a mainstream tourist destination but on the other hand there is no easy way to get up there. Yean, I thought the lady carrying the kitten up there was a nice story. Cheers

I've been watching Karl's videos for a while now. By coincidence, I have a friend who is a close friend of another Englishman named Karl. I met that Karl one time years ago after he'd arrived in Bangkok for a visit. Just talked to him briefly, but super nice guy. I remember him insisting on paying for the drinks. And he helped out my friend when he needed it most; that's a rarity these days. Anyway, another friend who knew that Karl was just in Bangkok. We met the other day and he asked me if I remembered Karl. When I said that I did, my friend told me that Karl now has a KZbin channel. When he described Karl's channel content, I had an aha moment... It finally hit me that the Karl I met all those years ago and the Karl that's been making all these videos I've been watching are in fact the very same person! 😅 No wonder he looked familiar, though in my defense I'm pretty sure Karl had more hair on his head then. 555

Fabulous vids Karl . Thanks mate . I've been reliving my 86-87 stay for 5 months at My Place in Sri Bumphen. Some of the characters in the vids I knew - Daeng , Kenny , and other faces . Lek the new owner and his Swiss wife Christina had just refurbed My Place . I was the first to stay in my room - new bedding , clean and fresh corner room on the 3rd floor .50 Baht a night . I wasn't scamming anything , mostly tokin' jazz cigars , helped a few folk out from time to time , did work on a few films as extra , and Kenny never really put it on me , but he was a nice guy .I was a bit shocked though seeing the trophy wall at his flat full of dickpics . I kinda was wary of him .after that , but he actually stopped me from getting a hiding from a large Kiwi one day , so I have a good regard for Kenny . We got paid 600baht for doing those extra roles - it was 3 days living . Cheers mate .

@@karlsthailand We took the main trail Kew Mae Pan , it had been reported earlier that there was frost on top of the mountain and there was , because of that it was very busy which really took away some of the adventure and pleasure you can achieve when there are only a handful of souls dragging themselves up a mountain.

Amazing cheers Karl Oct 2019 when I was in Krabi this was on my bucket list, but due to too many heavy nights I never did it, I wish I had as I think it'd kill me now. the quote about preparation reminded me, do thailand gyms have Stairmaster machines? that would seem to be ideal for a day with Karl. they might even count the # of steps. I only recall setting a timer for duration of exercise. the bicycles had adjustments easy-to-difficult tension and speed to simulate different course difficulties. these might work nicely.

Some of them do have those machines but not that many. Although they are great inventions I prefer to just go out walking and include a few hills lol. I guess they're great for people with limited time. Cheers

Watching the day back it was a wise move to turn back for me - that was probably the hardest hike of the week all I needed was a cold drink but the monkeys stole it out my bag opened it and drank the lot 😂

unsolicited words for Karl's climbing mates. getting in for a heart stress test wouldn't be a bad idea as a pre-step for these adventures. years ago, I got a clue wading up a slight Incline hill coming out of water. I barely made it, out of breath and feeliing dizzy. weeks later I had my heart attack. angioplasty on blocked arteries was my condition.

I still cannot get my brain around how the modern type of Thai thinking allows all those communications towers to be set up on such a sacred site like this, and especially how they are built higher than the main Budda's head too. Once upon a time it would have been totally sacrilegious to even contemplate such goings on. Oh well, suspect the perpetrators made a big enough donation to get the nod on these ones. And what lovely views too, been a good while since we were in Krabi. Must add it to the bucket list.

Why is Buddha depicted as having Blue eyes in some instances, i did some research and "some" theories are he was from the North as in Northman/Norse or Russian but that doesn't make sense as why would Asia take on the Beliefs of a Foreigner, but there were several religions before Buddhism. We will never know i guess, some weird and wonderful things have happened in our past thats for sure, the Indians have some wild Granite carvings in their old temples. ie a man riding a Bicycle, someone using a eyeglass etc etc.

I believe that in some cultures it represents spiritual enlightenment and wisdom and it is probably meant to be more of a symbolic representation than an attempt at an accurate portrayal of his physical appearance.

I've never had any problems with them beyond them stealing a couple of thing lol. If you don't have any food or drink visible and walk with confidence they just leave you alone. There is one video I did a few years ago where I let them crawl over me but the monkeys at that place are more used to human contact so I trusted them more. They frequent a lot of places I visit and I never see them as a reason not to go. Cheers
