On this fly:
When river fishing from a boat in faster currents it is often about 1) getting that fly as close to the target near the bank as possible, 2) getting the fly down into the strike zone, 3) stripping it back to entice a take. Getting things done in seconds - preferably without getting caught in the canopy or any other obstacles around, sometimes submerged - time and again while drifting downstream in hot weather will soon tire an angler. It is a fast and difficult game of attention. The Quick Descent Minnow is my approach on the fishing in these conditions. QDM is a heavy fly with a visible and narrow profile for getting down deep fast. It will not collapse in the currents and is to fish on when saddles have been shredded by sharp teeth. A medium-sized baitfish imitation, it is easier cast. Made for tigerfish it may soon find its way to other fisheries as well.
