One more think about torque wrench. To keep them accurate and calibrated, every time you finish the job you need to unscrew wrench to minimum torque and below that number. Simply, put them to minimum. If you leave it in high torque you will need to calibrate them. And that is not funny job to do. Every bolt on bike says max torque. It is good practice to tighten them 10% below that number. Every pedal and crank says 40 nm. I use 36 nm for my pedals. It is not that much. I can undo that with allen key (8mm). No problem. Many years ago my pedal was to loose. After few km all of that go to garbage. Crankset and pedal. I don't want do that mistake again. It is to costly. I have 3 TW in 3 different range for different job. For bike I use 2 smaller. 5-30 and 20-110. Always use smaller TW that can do the job. Biggest TW (up to 200 nm) is for auto and moto wheels. With many adapters you can use it for every job you want. 3/8 to 1/2 or 1/4 or bits. Also 1/2 to 3/8. Expensive but also funny when you complete your workshop. No brain, no pain.

A common, although incorrect, way that folks deal with fastenings that loosen is by tightening them more than the required amount. A better, less risky, method is to use a mild thread locker. Another thing to think about is that it is better to have your brake and shift controls a tad lose so that in the event of a crash they rotate on the bar rather than bend or break. Nothings worse than a broken brake, if you'll pardon the pun.

1N-m is equal to ~10.2 Kg-cm. So if my hex wrench have 10 cm long handle, then when I put one kg force to the end of that handle. I get about 1N-m. Right?

12:20 that style torque wrench is actually quite accurate and will stay accurate practically forever as long as one doesn’t overload it and deform the steel. Another factor which is above and beyond the home bike mechanic, thread friction can make torque settings inaccurate or have poor repeatability. A bit of oil on a screw vs one with dry threads will see the oiled one gets tightened more than the dry one. For bike specs, most fasteners will generally follow dry thread torque values. It’s good to have in mind what type of aluminum or steel the materials are when torquing a fasteners. Over time one will develop a feel to what it ‘feels’ like and prevent accidentally over tightening a fasteners where threads become stretched, deformed or worse yet stripped. It’s not a bad idea to have a few thread chasers or taps for those who do a lot of work on bikes. Particularly bottom bracket threads. I dig up this stuff :) Thanks

This video is extremely useful for me because I do not have a torque wrench, thank you Danny.

My frame's aero-shaped seatpost slip so easily. Even with carbon paste i still need 12 Nm to prevent it from slip! That's quite a surprise because my previous frame (round seatpost) only need 5Nm and it stay there for ages.

Hey Danny nice video, but I suspect (I'm convinced) that you're wrong to say that if the saddle is attached with two bolts you need to pull these bolts with 8NM, if 16NM is on The seat post you must attract the two bolts with 16NM each. sorry for my bad English. ;)

I have an overview on my channel of Felo torque screwdrivers which cover a torque range from 0.6 Nm to 5.4 Nm.

I've used some thread lock on bottle cages and also for mudguards. It worked fine.. Never got lose afterwards and I could still unscrew when I needed.. Of course I tested it on different screws and bolt before using on bike. It was not lock tide product, some cheaper brand.. And it said that it's starting from M6, but I have used also on 3mm screws and kinda worked too. Although it did not want to hardening there so well.. Seems it hardens only under pressure.

So what brand and model is the one you are keeping in the end? I am thinking about getting a torque wrench too

hi Dany, Nice tool. how accurate is? thanks

Glad u had a torque wrench :)) But there's 1 thing i hate about that TW, is that when you need to have micro adjustment (example, change the torque to 5.4 Nm, it's very hard to set up that 0.4Nm, which mean it will usually make the torque u need when wrong. Also, even when you set up to 5Nm is even wrong to, just a little bit). I'm just saying ( and sorry for my bad discription, but that's the hole thing)

Did you have any trouble tightening the rear brake caliper's mounting bolt under the seat stay. It looks like there's so little space there to go approach with torque wrench.. On my bike(Merida), that bolt was tightened lighter than other three bolts. I guess, that the bike shop could not reach there with their torque wrench.

hello sir, can you please tell me how much range of newton-meter is enough for any expensive bike? because some torque wrench comes with 2- 15 nm and some with 2-24 nm. generally smaller range torque wrench is good than large range for maintenance? thanks

Hello ShaiBike! Do you recomend that Bikehand torq wrench? How about quality of this product? Im considering to buy one but dont wana go pricy.

After the setting of the torque wrench is reached it will not tighten any further.

Probably this one: www.bikehand.com/s/2/product-502748/Torque-Wrench-YC-617-2ST.html ...With the locking nut at the end of handle. There are many similar products. Most of them have different locking system. But I don't know which one is better..

That's it too. It's basically an OEM model that different companies just put their logos on.

Torgue wrench with certificate is nt an expensive tool...everyone who has an expensive bike must have an tool like this one...imagine to have a 4.000-10.000 € bike...a wrench has 100-150€ so...it cost nothing in front of your damaged
