When she first dropped her TikTok video accusing the Professor, yes, it was covered by a lot of KZbin commentators because of her sheer audacity. The second TikTok video garnered her even more ridicule because she doubled and tripled down and not only that many of her own followers told her there was an arrest made and still others asked her to stop. She had been warned through out this process since the alleged murderer’s arrest to stop. The professor herself asked her to stop. She decided to quadruple down so now she should definitely face consequences for her actions. And I’m surprised she thinks that deleting videos will do anything because with all those KZbinrs using her videos to respond, it’s out there.

After going to her website and reading her "blog" on the matters if anyone takes her seriously they are as unwell as she is presenting to be. This is the first I've heard of this and don' have Tik-Tok so went to see what this is about. I'm confused. She is passing her narrative off as psychic knowledge of the events she has on her "blog"? It reads like a crime fiction story (and poorly done IMO). She is accusing Scofield of being the mastermind and enlisting Jack Decour (who she claims carried out the murders) and Bryan K. Like where did Scofield even come from? Bananas and truly hurtful to Jack especially. **Edit Went and watched her video here on YT. Yikes she is not well as she seems to believe her delusions. She needs help if not for her sake but for the sake of her child.

@@mizzLopez I agree she is not well but I think she needs to face consequences for her actions. She can't get away with any of her statements. I think she has just seen too much true crime and wants her narrative to be true because she wants to be part of something. She wants to be part of the "action" and to have the attention on her. Her actions are beyond harmful to the victims, their families, and the people she has accused of these heinous acts. I hope the judge brings the hammer down on her.

@@greendancingpudding I agree, although if she is as delusional as she appears to be, anything a judge has to say will make no difference. Delusional people don't suddenly become cogent just because they've been put in their place. If anything, they will double-down on their position. This is harassment by a (potentially) delusional and dangerous individual and frankly it is scary. I would not be surprised if this TikToker never leaves Scofield alone and I feel very sad for her. She did not ask for any of this. This is either a scam or this TikToker is legitimately unhinged. I don't want to use her name and feed into this because if she is merely using these murders to garner attention, it is vile. It COULD be all an act, although anyone who would use something like a quadruple homicide for attention is not right in the head regardless. If she truly believes these claims, it is beyond troubling. If I were Scofield, I would honestly be scared because there is no telling what someone with this level of delusional behavior is capable of. It's very troubling either way.

Well silver lining: maybe with this being the dumbest counterclaim in (arguably) all of history, she's set to loose a ton of money and waste her own time. Girl could've just left for Bali, taken the L for default, and moved on with her life. But this weirdly feels validating for Rebecca, Ashley is making it worse for herself and she didn't even have to do anything or pursue the matter. It's like the legal equivalent of watching someone bully an innocent person then just turn around and punch themselves in the face.

This is delusion on top of delusion. The part that shooketh me the most was where she claimed that all these people picking on her (for randomly accusing this woman of mass murder based on tarot cards) are witness tapering because she “spiritually witnessed a crime” and now they’re trying to intimidate her? 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ yeahhhh that’s not a thing but ok.

Thank you Emily! This case sounds exactly like what happens when someone decides to F#@$ around and find out! I feel horrible for the professor and her family. Also, as a person who has listened to my share of true crime podcasts, videos and the like, I lost my taste for it after the online sleuths with the Kiely Rodni case muddled the investigation, which caused more pain for her family. There is a place for a tip line and information gathering to share with law enforcement. Wildly leveling accusations against people in a wide public forum, like social media, especially when the "spreader of misinformation" has a large following, is exactly why defamation, slander and libel cases are needed. There needs to be a way to shut the babbling brooks of bullshit down!

Yeah I used to watch more true crime but the community really has been running away with itself. Many people seem to think they know better than police/doctors/investigators/everyone actually involved with logic that is no better than flat earthers. And they tend to deal in absolutes. Doesn’t matter if the case they’re talking about happened an hour ago or has been cold for decades, whoever they feel is guilty “MUST” be guilty. It’s never an accident, always malice and intentional cover up.

It's either a scam or she is legitimately unhinged. She has definitely found a shortcut to "fame" (in an internet sense) or notoriety - because people who are desperate for attention don't care which they get, as long as it's some form of attention. I had never heard of her before and I would wager most, if not everybody on here had not heard of her either before injecting herself into this tragedy. If she is merely using these murders as a conduit to get more views and attention, it is beyond disgusting. If she truly believes these claims, it is beyond troubling. Edit: spelling error

And that they never told her anything about the horse besides its name! As a prof in a PhD program, I can assure you that it is a HUGE deal for a student to be fired from a TAship on this way and that this would generally only happen during the first semester if their behavior was truly *egregious*. I work in a very progressive dept at a progressive university and I have routinely seen TAs get a slap on the wrist for being sexist or sexually harassing students. This case was serious.

@@-._.-KRiS-._.- I think that you saying that Idaho tends to sweep as much under the rug as possible just further proves the point of how bad his behavior must have been for him to have been fired from being a TA. And also, while *the case* is in Idaho, the university that K worked at is in Washington, FWIW. Either way though, to have been fired so quickly is a huge sign of how bad things were. In my opinion, nothing except major misbehavior could compel a university (with all the people that would be involved agreeing) to work THAT quickly to remove someone from their position; things otherwise tend to move slowly when it comes to complaints against faculty and/or students (again, in my opinion. maybe other people have different experiences with that kind of thing. Also, as a side note: I generally agree with the pace of things as I've experienced them, as I would hate for false accusations to ruin someone's career or prospects, etc.) Anyway... my point is similar to what Izimman said: for him to have been fired after only a single semester, he must have done some really bad/persistent things.
@ProfZ.
@ProfZ. Жыл бұрын
Yeah in 20 years in academia I’ve never seen anyone fired from a TA position. It’s partly because they are literally there to be trained to become teachers, so we expect things not to go perfectly early on and we mentor them thru those experiences. But a lot of it is also about money - universities typically make funding commitments to both departments and graduate students. For the students, taking away funding is often tantamount to kicking them out of the program (one generally does not pay out of pocket for a PhD). For a department, firing a TA may even mean they no longer have enough bodies to teach the classes that had been scheduled, even at relatively well-resourced public institutions. And I would guess this campus of UW didn’t have a lot of extra money.

Unfortunately, there are instances all over true crime where the same thing is happening on a smaller scale. I cover some of that on my channel. I'm a PR expert/former tech PR exec, but my concern is social media culture. This situation is an example of how social media incentives people to LARP themselves into journalists, investigators, lawyers, etc. with NO previous education, training, etc. In this situation, it seems like a LARPing psychic turned herself into a LARPing true crime journalist and now a LARPing lawyer. If it wasn’t for the fact that she has children, I would find her counter-claim hilarious. Now I’m just concerned for her kids and wondering that if she’s willing to display this level of unhinged delusion in public, what is she hiding? Her husband isn’t with her and she doesn’t seem to have support in the care of her kids. Oh lord. One day her kids are going to see all this craziness. It makes me so sad.

Yeah see I'd love for it to go through, for no other reason then to draw it out as I live in Canada where we have the "Hey loser, pay the winners attorney's fees for wasting everyone's time with your frivolous nonsense" rule. There's a reason people aren't sue happy in Canada, paying the winners fees tends to keep the frivolity down a bit.

Sadly, the court's found with the tik tokker. They set aside the default and allowed her access to ECF. They did grant plaintiff's motion to strike, though, and struck the tik tokkers answer and counter claim. They gave her 21 days to file an actual answer. That was back in April, and I haven't logged onto ECF to check what happened after that.

thank you for covering this, giving an excellent legal breakdown of the case to date and shining a light on the significance of this issue. this case bothered me from the moment I heard about the original TikTok/psychic claims at (or near) the time of the murders. The broader issue to me is an ongoing deterioration of the American narrative in general; specifically in this case the loss of a sense of personal accountability for individual actions. It is not OK to say whatever you want on the internet (or anywhere else) for personal gain (i.e. 'clicks,' 'likes' or 'followers') at the expense of others. This Tiktoker does not seem to understand that, and I sincerely hope society hold her accountable and it becomes a teachable moment for her and the broader society. I find myself increasingly pessimistic about the future, the devolving strength of character of our society due to situations such as this. I do remain hopeful, however, that somehow the American experiment can move forward with a renewed focus on 'the evolving standards of decency that mark the progress of a maturing society.' thank you again, please keep us updated with new information and your opinions as the case continues to evolve.

The thoughts that came to mind as I heard you go over the documents were 1) The TikToker has the frame of mind of the old saying "All publicity is good publicity," and believing she is right, and that the first amendment protects her speech until she received the same kinds of horrid harassments the professor experienced which leads her to 2) Double down on excuses to create her own "narrative of perception" where she decides the professor's actions of retaliating against her by suing her triggered a series of events. And these events led to her loss of income from giving spiritual guided readings despite the fact that her interpretation of the events of the Idaho murder case were incorrect. My own question is does she have any past experience with law enforcement where something she "read spiritually" led to an arrest of a suspect in any crime in any jurisdiction? When does a person who is a person in the business of "entertainment purposes" cross the line and are no longer covered by the first amendment? There are not a lot of professors considered public figures. Is someone known to be a public figure like a famous actor seen to have greater damage from being defamed than say a working actor, or in this case a professor at a university?
