I’m Italian (NOT) Italian-american), and i feel like mafia shouldn’t be glamourised too much. My parents know people whose lives were ruined by mafia. Where i live, everyone knows somebody who knows somebody, if you get what i mean. It’s very close to some people’s lives, and it’s ruined my country and rotten not only it’s politics but also it’s soil to the core. There’s a place in italy, “la terra dei fuochi”, that is not safe to cultivate due to how much illegal waste-dumping was done by the mafia there. But I’ve never been a fan of overly done make up and sleek back hair suits me and it’s practical. My wardrobe is full of more classic pieces that I can mix and match and won’t have to update very often unless I find an item I’m missing. I loved seeing the trend on socials because I was finding outfit, hair and makeup inspo I could do using items I have. I kinda hate how it became mainstream and a trend when it’s just about being more natural and classical as opposed to using consumerism to say you need these items to be cool. Idc what trend comes next I’ll always be a clean girl because it’s what makes me feel like well me.

They are not and never were meant to create a WHOLE lifestyle around and or put yourself in a box. The obsession with building your entire life into one aesthetic is mind boggling to me….With that being said there are people who are genuinely geared towards one style which is fine if it’s a genuine interest but even than it’s a collection of different stuff throughout the years and it’s because they truly like it and are naturally drawn to it. They don’t throw away all their stuff because social media told them to and then buy all new belongings to fit into the new style. It’s the follow the leader mentality and not being able to think for yourself, not even knowing who you are or what you truly like is what scares me the most about all of this. YIKES 😬

I used to own a clothing store and when I went to the trade shows to buy for next season I always wondered how all the companies were on the same page telling me what was going to be popular next season. How do they know what is going to be popular? Then I realized that the fashion industry are changing the trends every year to make people buy new clothes and they are making a new fashion or trend popular by telling every store what to buy and putting celebrities into the new fashions, so you see celebrities wearing the stuff that all the stores are stocking now. It works better on women than men... If I had last years women's clothing they would all know that it wasn't the right colour or style for this year, but I could sell 2 year old men's clothing and they would buy it as long as they thought it looked cool. Most people don't buy clothes out of necessity cuz their old clothes wore out, they buy for fashion so they don't get left behind, and they throw their old clothes out. Planned obsolescence. But there are only so many trends so the old ones come back again one day (retro) so I just wear 20 year old clothes and I'm usually just ahead of the "new" fashion.

Just a couple of years ago, I tried to find my own style that I liked. I wasn't trying to follow trends but just finding things that made me more comfortable and feminine. Now I'm 29 years old and I'm still trying to upgrade myself, not because of a trend but because I'm due for one. But without putting a dent in your wallet. I do agree with Brett, work with what you have.

Only time I learn about trends is watching stuff on YT. Yes I have socials but I only watch people that I want to watch. I don’t focus on any other stuff. Although most trends are trash and forgettable, its what often times defines an era. Most people look back at the 80"s and 90's and laugh and reminisce about those trends. However, it's part of the nostalgia we feel while we are growing up. The world is weird, and I'm glad we have these weird, random trends. It keeps things lighthearted. It gives us something to look back at and laugh, tease each other about, and realize that we can all be victims of the times.

@greypilgrim22811 ай бұрын
@user-nx5ex1wh1f Yep, trends in fashion used to define several years, now with the rubbish on tiktok and social media people go through trends like hot dinners, they're more gimmicks or fads than actual era defining trends. In ten years time nobody will ever remember these things because they're just ridiculous and seen by less than 2% of the population on twitter and tiktok that thinks what they have to say is relevant.
@sirraf2311 ай бұрын
@@matthewsinclair507MTV didn't come around until the 80s. How do you explain the 20s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s? Not to mention the fact that the trends lasted for an entire decade, not 2 short years like these tiktok trends.

I listen for mindless entertainment, the trend nonsense reminds me of the Lemony Snicket books in the Series of Unfortunate Events when they go to live with the Squalors because “orphans were in”. I can’t imagine wasting one second on current trends, I’ve been wearing comfy jeans & tshirts since I was old enough to choose my own clothes and I’m still quite happy wearing them with no makeup, ponytails & trucker caps at 30. My fiance is very glad that I don’t waste money shopping for nonsense or worrying about wardrobe changes. I still wear clothes I bought 16+ years ago, they’re still clean and not worn out.

I remember finally getting to pick my own clothes as a teenager. I went with the “jeans and a t-shirt” look. I have stuck with that ever since, for decades now. It has never been top of the fashion tier, but it has never gone out of style. Solid color shirts, rare is a design or logo. I went with pocketed t’s at first but realized I never used the pocket, so why have it? Oh, I have khakis and some button-ups, black and black slacks for my funeral attire, but yeah - jeans and a t-shirt. It just works.
