I'm also a true crime fan, and I agree with you. There's no need to give more popularity to criminals we already know about. No one needs awareness about Jeffrey Dahmer. Everyone knows who this dude is and what he did. Even if they don't know all the details, they know he was a serial killer. It's just completely unnecessary to keep putting out these dramas of popular serial killers played by celebrities who are attractive (Zach Efron, Ross Lynch, Evan Peters). The celebrities that play these serial killers are the reason (apart from obvious daddy issues/lack of therapy) that people are making these disgusting edits. All they're doing is re-traumatizing the families of the victims and for what? Just to give us info we already had before? It's just disgusting. They truly don't care at all about the victims because it's just about Dahmer.

Coming from a true crime fan, I especially enjoy learning about the way these people's thoughts and minds work. One of my favorite cases is Dahmer's, but I think in no way they should have made this show. It doesn't really show the victims. Half of the show is just Dahmer's life before and after the crimes. I also hate that the show became as popular as it did because it shines a new light on him and creates a new generation of "fans". People who lost their son to Jeff don't deserve to have to go through this again. They also never notified or asked permission to Dahmer's family or the victim's families to make it.

i think it's always been kind of a thing. many serial killers, like ted bundy or O.J. Simpson, used their good looks to create a status that they could hide behind to escape prosecution. it makes me so mad because the people simping for these serial killers are not only being insensitive to the families affected, but blatantly displaying how easy it would be for them to succumb to those killers methods of capturing victims. I could go on a whole rant about the "I can fix him" trope, but that's for another day. I also think that once people started to actually detect a pattern, they went for it. you can't convince me that certain creepypastas like jeff the killer haven't contributed to the craze. there's also american psycho becoming more popular. i'd talk about joker too, but a lot of the people who relate to those kinds of media are sigma males that, again, i could rant separately about for a long time. those people relate to the killers in a way that makes them seem like they want to be like them, not date them. american psycho as a book made a statement on killers and the culture surrounding them, but the movie wasn't executed properly, and is now a graphic display of seeing what people can get away with, played by a very conventionally attractive young man. i liked watching it, but nobody can deny that its popularity on tiktok hasn't added to everything. there's also true crime podcasts. listen, i love a good, respectful and thoroughly researched true crime podcast. one where there is empathy and an understanding that the stories told aren't just stories, and have an impact on people- yes those podcasts exist. but most of these can be really dehumanizing so yes. hollywood, for taking anything for clout and casting the hottest people possible. the internet, for seeing troubled people and fetishizing the idea of fixing them or being the exception to their bloodlust. and also years and years of the privilege of more conventionally attractive murderers getting away with shit. it all adds up. and i could say more, haha- like actually i've watched so so so so many video essays on stuff like this! but i haven't finished this episode yet and i don't wanna repeat anything you might've said. in conclusion, yall are insane.

It’s not actually as complicated as it seems. Some of these actual killers are mediocre to higher than average looking, and this ‘trend’ has hooked in a lot of usually girls/women, plus some of these people obsessing over them have weird or extreme kinks etc. and when they’re admiring these people and making these edits they’re not usually seeing it as seriously in their minds as it actually is. (This is just what I’ve taken from when I’ve spoken to them). So if people can do this for the actual killers when an attractive actor is cast as these criminals the whole ‘bad boy’ fantasy kinda goes through the roof in their minds. Idk how to explain it but I’ve seen quite a few (girls particularly) with this obsession

I watch true crime to try to come to terms with the world we live in, the way I see it, if someone had to live through something horrific then the least I can do is acknowledge that kind of thing happens. Many people, understandably so, choose to ignore the terrible things that happen but I do think people can stay safer if they're honest with themselves about how dangerous our world truly can be. I DO think though that these topics should be handled with way more care & empathy than they often are, however.

This is such an interesting perspective! I never thought about it like that, as someone who also watches true crime. But I have wondered while watching these videos is how one decision, one interaction, one meeting with the wrong person can end someone's life. I often wonder what the victims felt and what their last thoughts were in their last moments. It always makes me feel pretty down...

Mmm i watch a lot of liveleaks when i was young. It defenly open your eyes. The worst ones where car accidents then random killing, terrorist attacks and cartel killing. But the worst cases are those that you know the person (the true crimes tipe of crimes) and those typically arent record and are the worsts stories about betray abuse manipulation. So sad.

the thing is, most of the jeffery dahmer edits now are a lot more tame then they used to be. that sounds stupid, but people ACTUALLY used to edit the COURT HEARINGS of jeffery dahmer and ted bundy. not only that, they would edit flower crowns on top of their heads, or quotes saying they were “misunderstood.” i remember seeing someone post on tumblr saying that one of ted bundy’s victims was a bitch because she got away from him and testified against him. people who are infatuated with serial killers have an actual mental disorder and NEED help immediately.

Luka Magnotta used to live VERY close to us. I don’t remember since I might’ve been a bit young perhaps but once my brother told me that I was scared 😅

hi. i have really loved true crime podcasts, documentaries ect. for many years, and here is my point of view on it and why i listen to it. I like true crime because 1. I think it is really facisnating to look into how the crimminal mind functions, and what drives them to do such things. For me personally, I hate podcasts that draw out the gory descriptions, because it feels really disrespectful and is really hard for me (being quite squeamish) to listen to. So really, Im interested in the psychology of it. I can often get angry when listening to these podcasts, or really sad, which is why i really try to limit how much I listen to them. Usually it is once or twice a week and I specifically choose a non-gory podcast/documentary to listen to so I don't vomit. I think some people listen to true crime too much to the point where they become desensitized to it and that is not good. Ive hear many brag about how true crime doesn't scare them, and tbh thats not really a good thing 💀. I also have OCD, and one of the ways that it manifests itself is through me being afraid of hurting others, and sometimes I worry I could be crazy or even pycotic for being interested by true crime. i think the intrest factor in true crime is the same as people being intrested by the holocaust, or wars, pandemics, because it is something the normal human mind can't understand which is why people get really obsessed w it. Nevertheless, romanticism of serial killers is not cool, its disgusting and completely disrespectful.

im so glad im not the only one who thinks the same about the death penalty😭 like a death penalty is literally the easiest thing for them but life long torture is the best way to handle these people
@dinahsaur79992 жыл бұрын
Yes!! This is what I've been saying. How is the death penalty the worse thing that can happen to a serial killer? And it's not even a torturous death. It's the quickest death imaginable. Like, no. Their victims didn't die quick, so why should they go peacefully?
@abbycadabby9752 жыл бұрын
and the death penalty is often desired by these crimminals. Isreal Keyes for example wanted the death penalty, and when he didnt get it he killed himself. It also costs a ton of money for court and the supplies and death row in general and draws out the grief process for victims families. the taxpayer dollars used towards the death penalty are taken out of highway funds and police securtiy funds. in states where there is the death penalty, crime is significantly more than in states without the death penalty. so in conclusion its an escape from a misreable life in prison for disgusting and evil people, and it draws out the grief of victim families instead of just letting the person fade into the background (because death penalty cases get a lot of publicity) and it costs a ton of money (california has spent over 2 billion on this btw) and in general its just immoral (why does killing someone for killing someone prove that killing people is wrong?)

@@abbycadabby975 literally! so well said, the death penalty is so obviously illogical in almost every aspect and i feel like nobody talks about how crazy expensive it is too and how taxpayer money can be so much better spent on things that will lower crime rates and support victims

not to mention how so many people on death row are falsefully convicted (meaning they actually didn't do something) like are you serious also the people who did actually did something should just sit in prison and die there, alone.

im actually really glad you think that about the death penalty because people who have done stuff like this don't deserve an easy way out. also i HATE when people commit murders and then commit suicide because they know they're gonna be in prison for life. its so aggravating when i see that someone got murdered and that the murderer killed themself, because they don't deserve that. who takes someone life because of whatever reason and then does the same thing to themselves? they deserve to think about what they've done and live with their shame and guilt for the rest of their lives with no chance of ever being released.

I thought I was the only person who thought that way about the death penalty, for me, death is an easy escape from any punishment, so simply making someone’s life a living hell to the point where they would rather die than have it continue. Sure that might be harsh, but to me, only through torture can once truly see what they put someone else through
@FindingGamesStudio Жыл бұрын
Sorry to reply to a 3 month old comment, but I wonder if this perspective can show the "pro death" side a bit. Have you ever considered the thought of a Hell existing? Not the goofy Hollywood type where the devil's just laughing with a pitchfork, no. A type of hell where a person is burning, forever, their body is not being destroyed but constantly burning, and no escape. Falling, too, never reaching the bottom. Eventually they'll be forgotten. Every thing about their life on earth will be nothing after an eternity. I find comfort believing such a place exists for the monsters of this world, where they will never stop being tortured.
@Mo0n_LighT965 Жыл бұрын
@@FindingGamesStudio I have considered this. However since we as people have no way of know that it exists, I don’t get as much satisfaction with such an outcome, since wether or not they actually suffer in death isn’t confirmed not denied. At least if we were to keep the death penalty, one, make sure we have the right person, and two, at least make it somewhat more painful. I mean from what I’ve heard of descriptions of the electric chair, that’s pretty damn hellish, so y’know, deaths where the pain only goes away once ur dead. Hell if ur lucky, the person might question if what they did was worth it or not. Or u could kill them the same way they murdered their victims, give them a taste their own medicine. Or it could be one strike and if ur caught again then you’ll be killed, it wouldn’t get rid of the death penalty, but it still incorporates another option. Like a happy little compromise
