Her saying “he abandoned his family” and “didn’t pay my medical bills” gives us the impression of being the child of a struggling single mum, living paycheck to paycheck. When in fact they were a millionaire Hollywood family. 🙄

Exactly. He showed respect to all of his kids and the ex. She is just a spoiled brat getting used to attention and getting what she wants. Now I think she did the first video for the social credit and likes that might lead to a better job. Cause we all know that you have to be some kind of minority of a victim to get the good gigs in Hollywood. She didn't calculate on her dad actually responding and bringing the invoice on payments. Kind of backfired in her face...

Having ANY parent bad mouth the other for any reason does lasting psychological damage to a kid, this stuff is just unnecessary but some people are so nasty and cynically narcissistic that they cant NOT tear eachother apart. In my experience my parents separated for the final time when I was 17, and I went with my mom because the last time my parents separated temporarily i stayed with my dad and felt neglected and was still having to babysit his girlfriends kids on occasion. But both times my dad made a terrible habit of bad mouthing my mom, who was trying her damnedest to provide for us, she couldve taken his house, half his pension and all that but she left and let him keep everything and all his child support was to keep me on his insurance till 26 and pay for my phone bill till I was 18. And he still didn't wanna do that. It got to the point where when I finally started talking to him a few weeks after their divorce he wanted to put a tracker on my phone, or atleast thats the story he gave me ( I had previously lost phones before so I didnt think anything of it) well, turns out he found some app that disguises itself as another app and gave him full control of the camera, microphone etc. so this man back then decided it was a good idea to evesdrop intk my private conversation with my mom for weeks after, showed up to court with a huge stack of hand transcribed conversations trying to use my personal disdain for him at the time, including when in my own frustration called his new wife a " Trailer park whore." ( Not my proudest moment but I stood by my opinion, and still do because she was actually evil, and ended up snaking him and stealing his house and putting him through hell trying to take his pension. And the whole time in the convos my mom was always supportive of him and telling me to not call him or his girlfriend things like that. And was the only reason I didnt entirely cut him off for good @ 17) as a reason why the already incredibly generous child support arrangement should be dropped all together. And for years I barely talked to him after that because every time I came around for the holidays hed always try to bring up my mom and I had to start telling him to stop doing it. Especially after she passed in 2019. Sometimes parents dont understand the impact that their decisions, selfish or otherwise have on their relationship with their kids. One slip up like my dads can ruin the trust with your kids forever. Of course i know as I get older that its partly to do with him not having a good father figure in his life either, but it doesnt absolve him entirely of the choices he made, but I certainly wouldn't make a tiktok putting him publicly on blast for transgressions of the past. In the case of this screenwriter she definitely just wanted clout and more money from a father who supposedly paid their mom 5+ million, I wouldnt wanna dish out more money either. And it sounds like her mom did the things my dad used to do all the time in badmouthing the good parent to win over the trust and loyalty of the kids.

Yep. The daughter is a "screenwriter" in Hollywood. While I don't know her credits, she's a single white female, which -- aside from the crazy factor -- is a demographic that's not getting her attention in Ho-Town. So, she likely thought she would tell this quirky story, get some interest in it via social media, and write a ididn't think her Dad would find out... Until the Internet does what it does, tracked him down, and started sending him the usual bs. The father looked amused rather than angry. He comes off as truthful because he addressed everything and didn't try to blame anyone except himself for 70% of the marriage's problems. But, Maddie came off as dishonest because (1) she averted her eyes throughout the second video except for the part about not knowing about the money situation. She brushed that off quickly because it's possible she now knows her mother either kept that quiet or outright lied to her about it. (2) Maddie kept getting half of the details wrong and the other half was swept over on purpose to make her father out to be the liar. For example: - She kept saying he didn't live down the street when she knows damn well he said he lived A Mile Away and that mile had good roads and sidewalks, meaning the kids could've visited if they wanted to. - She dropped the health issue, though she never said what the problem was, meaning it could have been something stupid and Neither parent was going to pay for it - She repeated the fact that he never helped with the health issue, but only said Once it was in college, and that seemed like it slipped out - And she said she was telling the story as a a light-hearted funny story (when she wasn't) and she was sticking up for her family's pov but never said she asked her mother about the money or her family It Seems Like Maddie isn't as successful as her siblings, so was thinking about writing about this incident, tried to get some interest in it, got caught lying, and then tried to downplay what her plan was from the beginning. Pops found out, and being in marketing, recognized what Maddie was doing, and covered for her by taking the blame for the marriage but not everything else because his business/livelihood would take a huge hit. He was even kinda laughing when he called her "creative" (not "talented." "Creative.") and pretty much gave her permission to make the story if she wanted to. In fact, I wonder if they're not in it together. That would be an awesome twist
@Canthus13

I can't really fault her either. If that's the case, then remember the soviet brainwashing experiment (And probably CIA, too, but I'm familiar with the soviet one) where they kept repeating lies to their subjects until they believed them so well that even presenting them with hard evidence couldn't sway them from the lie. Custodial parents often do the same to their own children, ruining their relationship with the non-custodial parent, even if they don't do it intentionally. NEVER badmouth your kid's other parent no matter what. If they come to you with concerns, discuss them calmly and rationally. Consider getting a therapist to work through it with them. But NEVER talk shit about your baby momma/daddy, especially to your kids. Nothing good comes of it.

Absent parent 🤷‍♂️ sure but he ain't in jail so he was definitely paying child support and alimony. You don't know the terms of their divorce you don't know how often he was even allowed to see them. As an actual child abuse survivor this just infuriates me, it’s so easy to tell she’s been fed poison about her dad from her mother her whole life and instead of spending 2 minutes wondering if all of that slander is real or not, she just believes it without question. Then acts like she was living in an unstable environment with a single mother not knowing where her next meal was coming from… yeah, this just enrages me. Like I’ve permanent nerve damage and cPTSD because of my childhood, it was THAT BAD, but there’s no way I’d be making a video like this daft young lassie because my bio mother is a pure narcissist who would love the attention (she never accepted responsibility for her actions, been no contact for like 8 years now), she could’ve just spoken to her dad one on one, not make a video full of lies, and actually consider his side of the story. Congrats, you’ve played yourself, your dad knows to never trust you. Notice how he treats her with respect and dignity as she goes on tirades, easy to see it was her mother that was manipulative and toxic, not her dad, poor guy.

I had 49/51 custody of my oldest daughter and at 16 she moved in full time with me. She got mad at me her Senior Year and said I was a dead beat, I asked her what she was talking about. She told me her mom said I did not pay anything, I went and got my monthly receipt from Child support, which I was still paying. She looked at it and told me that was enough to buy a house. My daughter went down to child support the next day and I received a call from the case worker, I told the case worker I kept paying so her mom would leave our daughter alone. I received a call from her mom screaming at me, child support stopped and I just gave more money to our daughter. I had to explain to our daughter, her mom got to claim her on taxes and I paid for ALL medical, dental, and vision along with ALL extracurricular activities. She asked me about a sport she played and why she stopped playing, I told her that her mom didn't like me coaching her, so her mom stopped taking her. My daughter told me her mom said it was because she could not afford it, I paid for EVERYTHING. My daughter still has trust issues 12 years later. Thanks Mom

And if you wanted her to move in with you, you clearly wanted to be there for her, emotionally and in a personal level. And you also understand it's hard to break years upon years of brainwashing that her mother did. I mean, why shouldnt she trust her? It's her mother. The person who should never betray her. And she was a child, so even more trusting. Hopefuly, her nearing her 30's, she understands you're not the villain here. Hopefully, that relationship is going strong. 19:33 from my experience as a kid of early devorce, everyone is probably both correct and wrong on everything. Looking back 20+ years later now, seeing how different my mother’s, father’s and brother’s recollection and impression of how our childhood went is completely different from mine and each others. Me, my brother and mom all lived under one roof and we all still feel completely different about how things happened. Nobody truly knows what happens, not even in your own life. Our brains loves to trick us and bullshit us into completely rewriting how things happened in the past, adding intent to people’s actions that wasn’t there, rememebering scenarios completely differently, and there isn’t even anything objective we can compare our own memories to. Everyone is just going to feel however they feel and if you care about having a relationship with them you just gotta deal with that even if they make you out to be the bad guy sometimes

I have a good life lesson about this very thing. To start, let me just say that of everyone I know, they all say I had the absolute worst childhood and young adult life. Half my family was dead by age 10, and I ended up a s3x sl@ve for 4.5 years to a man 10 years older than me when I ran away from home at 14 to get away from my alcoholic single parent and my brother who beat me and shoved religion down my throat (literally holding my face to the ground so I can “see hell better” while punching me in the back of the head saying “do you want to go to hell?! Stop listening to secular music!!!” type deal). Like I was basically jumping from one abuser to the next until I became a complete recluse to protect myself, so I truly understand trauma. I can NEVER escape what happened to me… That being said, in my work where I help prisoners change their life around and help people/families in crisis, I’ve learned that you cannot place value on someone else’s trauma. I, too, am guilty of discounting some people’s trauma sometimes until I remind myself of this simple metaphor that dawned on me whilst in the hospital once; a concept that puts it all into perspective: _Just because I’m laid out in a body cast does NOT mean your broken leg doesn’t hurt, too! We are both sharing this hospital room, so we need to work together and be kind to each other to make the best of our situation. Fifty broken bones hurt, and so does one broken bone. Your pain is YOURS. No one can live it for you, no one can know what it feels like, and NO ONE can take it away from or for you_ We MUST stop shaming each other and start leading with compassion. It is the only way we will ever get out of the grave we are digging for ourselves as a society. I have PTSD and horrific burns/injuries all over my body to this day from what I went through in my youth, but when I see someone get even a minor injury, I physically feel their pain and automatically want to help them. When a girlfriend tells me about her family problems, I want to comfort her despite me being robbed of the chance to have a family of my own. It’s so easy to be bitter, but all that does is hurt them and ourselves. Helping others heal has helped heal my soul, personally; but even if you’re unable/unwilling to help others, just having empathy for others helps them more than you may realize. I truly believe compassion is the way forward for us all. *Thanks for listening, and I hope this helped someone* 🙏🏻🖤🤘🏻

As someone who grew up with their mom having full custody, she made us hate our father growing up and told us so many lies about him, also didn't let us have any contact with him. We actually hated him so much without even hearing his side of the story or knowing him. As me and my older sister grew up, we started to realize that my mom was a straight liar and that made us question everything and get in contact with him ourselves. We now don't speak with our mother anymore and have become extremely close to him over the last 22 years. Moral of the story, question everything, especially if you're only getting one side of the story, the victor writes the history.

A thing that I'm not really seeing being said as well is that she is a relatively attractive white girl that grew up extremely wealthy, possibly getting to ride those coattails to a big job in Hollywood and this has led to her being an, in that aspect, uninteresting person with a life devoid of struggles that'd connect her to other groups of people. Her taking his video as an attack when he did everything he could to push all blame away from her and to frame it as her just not knowing these things because she was a child rather than her being malicious, that leads me to believe she wants it to be trauma and some horrible upbringing she can wave around as some badge of honor so she can join the struggle club of other people.

She is definitely off. The things don't add up at all. She may not remember how often she went to visit him at 5. But if he says he gave her mom 5M that's not a number you can misunderstand. You can't be unsure sure if your poor or not. I don't know their story, but I know there are 3 sides to it. Mom's, Dad's and the kids. And each of the kids is going to see it differently. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, the situation is against you, and you just have to ride it out. Dad handled it well and gave her a great assist even as she was committing the hard foul. But she fumbled the pass.

There are so many upper class individuals who think they’re upper or even middle class because they only know what they experienced, and if everyone has as much or more, they think they’re middle class. Anecdotal example: in college, I had a sociology class. My professor had students look in the Forbes Richest People book each year as a part of a unit. A student recognized her family name, called and asked her mom if they were actually that rich, and her mom basically said, “what did you expect? Between the equestrian training, the houses, and everything, I thought it was obvious.” The girl genuinely thought she was *maybe* upper middle class because everyone she grew up with had the same amount or more wealth than her family.

@@tramarthomas6105 Why are you defending someone who feels the need to lie about their father for victim points online? She's already throwing him under the bus, no need to also lie and pretend he was worse than he was, only backtracking and moving the goalpost when she gets called out for it. Projection seems to be rampant in 2024

For a guy who lives in another state who still sees his kids 4-5 times a year for periods we do not know, who probably calls his kids, and is financially taking care of them, to then call him a completely absent father is wrong. Absent father is the guy who doesn't care at all whether you are alive or dead because he doesn't even bother to think of you ever. No love, no support, no nothing. This guy might not be the best ever but he sure as hell does not deserve all the crap he's getting. @@tramarthomas6105

@tramarthomas6105 she lied about being abandoned, so why is she now telling the truth? He lived 1 mile away. If they didn't see each other, the most likely cause, is that mom kept her from him.
