Tim and Sid rant on Leafs, Phaneuf

Another great Sid rant on the Leafs after they hung Jonathan Bernier out to dry, in particular Dion Phaneuf, who avoided the media afterwards, prompting Sid to say “if you are captain of the Maple Leafs, you talk to the damn media.”

People say "who's gunna play the minutes Phaneuf plays?" this makes no sense. This team isn't good. This team did the most half-assed rebuild I have ever seen. I'll tell you who's gunna play those minutes :WHO FUCKING CARES. This teams needs to rebuild properly. Chicago did it, they won the cup, TWICE, LA did it, they won the cup, TWICE, Pittsburgh did, they won the cup. These teams all won the cup with a core of players they drafted (some with luck of the draw from the lottery). I'm not saying tanking will always result well (just look at Edmonton) but it's better than this bullshit excuse of a "new team" we've been getting lied to about since Sundin left.

no one needs to talk to the media. the players play hockey. the media are vultures who linger around to try and profit off the activities of the players who owe them nothing at all. the games are played for the tv audience and those in attendance. the opinions of "the media" are no better than those offered by fans of the game. bottom line, hockey does not need the media. sports "journalists" need an income so they spin stories out of games that are being played ....regardless of whether the media follow them or not. the media is inconsequential and the people who make up "the media" are replaceable, interchangeable, bobbleheads whose opinions are tied more to their pay cheques than their actual thoughts and feelings...because really, after all, it is only a game.

I think you're really selling the media short. They do much more than simply cover and comment on games. A lot of the media in sports investigate trade rumours, go behind the scenes at important stories within teams, profile certain players or individuals, look at collective bargaining processes, explain and investigate potential rule changes, and reveal potential issues in sports (PEDs, gambling, fan violence, etc). All of this does not directly have to do with games, but it is essential information for fans who care about and spend money on athletics. It also takes a lot of work and sometimes even courage. Is David Walsh, who wrote about Lance Armstrong doping as early as 1999 and was the target of a massive lawsuit by Armstrong merely just a "replaceable, interchangeable bobble head"?

All the B.S about who was drinking and driving who smacked their wife who smoked weed who called someone a fag is of no interest to me.If a guy does steriods then he gets suspended, end of story.What happens in someones personal life is nobodies business. I used to listen to sports radio in the late 80's in Vancouver, when it became a non-stop whine fest by a grossly over wait guy(Dan Russell) about pro athletes who are trying their best.Its gotten so far out of hand that players won't play in certain cities because of the media.
