Fell down a Rocky Horror/Tim Curry rabbit hole the past few days and discovered this. An absolutey wonderful find. The screams at the beginning sent chills through me.Criminal that he never got a Tony for his stage work. Even more criminal he still doesn't have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.That needs to be addressed by the 50th anniversary of the movie.

@lu.b.94257 ай бұрын
FYI to get a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, he through his agent, has to file a request for it; then it's granted or not. Th eprocess takes a couple of months. Celebrities look often surprised in front of the cameras, but they mde themselves the request!

Elisabeth Tabor I've come a long way when it comes to discovering Tim Curry. I first saw him in 'Annie' and his cameo in 'Home Alone 2'.
@elisabetht83138 жыл бұрын
Erin F Same here, sort of! I've known who he was since I was a kid and saw him in various movies like Clue, Legend and Home Alone 2, and later Rocky Horror Picture Show. I didn't fully appreciate his talent and versatility until last year, when I re-watched RHPS (I guess I appreciated it more as a grown woman than as a sheltered teen!). That started me on a mission to watch as many of his shows & movies as possible, listen to his songs, etc. He's just an outstanding actor and a brilliant human being in general.

I saw Tim Curry in Chicago in 1978 at the Park West. At the time, I was in college, was addicted to midnight showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, had made a student film about the followers who went to the film every week at midnight showings, LOVED his first solo rock LP, and got his autograph on several items at a Chicago record store appearance at Broadway Records. Tim Curry was doing two shows that night. I went to the early show with some friends. The ticket price? $7.50! (I still have the ticket stub to prove it.) It was a general admission show, but if you tipped the guy in the club a whopping $3.00, got you a table right by the stage. Man, those were the days. Anyway, Tim Curry came out, opening with an impassioned version of GIMME SOME LOVIN', and just held the crowd spellbound from moment one. I distinctly remember him wearing that same striped suit shown in this video. His performance was phenomenal, as was the performance of the band. I believe many of the same players that were on his solo LP READ MY LIPS were also also in the touring band. I'm pretty sure that Dick Wagner (lead guitar), Charles Collins (drums), and Michael Kamen (keyboards), were there. The show was TREMENDOUS. You must remember that Tim Curry was primarily an actor, not a rock singer, yet he had a GREAT rock voice, and through that combination of knowing how to interpret a lyric and then be able to give it life through a fantastically and believably emotional vocal performance was something to behold. I absolutely loved the show. I know that one of the Park West performances was taped, as it was shown on a TV screen behind Curry at the record-signing gig.a couple of days later. Could this be one of those Chicago performance? Who knows? At the end of the performance, the management announced that any of us could stay for the second performance about an hour later, if we all bought the minimum two drinks at that next performance. Apparently, Tim had come short of selling out both shows that night, and the management wanted to get as much money into the coffers as they could, by any means. Filled with the elation of the performance I'd just seen, I called several friends (from a pay phone in the lobby... anybody remember pay phones?) I told them them to get to Park West immediately and pay the $7.50 admission for the second show (and I'd pay for their drinks), or they would be really sorry about what they had missed. They all turned up and had a great time. There was a real bond between Tim Curry and the audience. They knew him as his character from ROCKY HORROR, yet really embraced this new rock persona. That persona was new to both him and the audience. Many times, he seemed so grateful and humbly appreciative that the audience accepted what he was trying to do with this new direction in his career. Then, a year or so later, he went on tour for his second album, FEARLESS. That was another great LP, featuring the masterpiece SOMETHING SHORT OF PARADISE. I saw him on that tour, too. He was a totally changed man. The rock-star ego thing seemed to have gone to his head. Whereas he used to have a welcoming presence to people who loved his ROCKY HORROR portrayal, at this concert he angrily tore up a ROCKY HORROR 8x10 that some fan had offered to him to sign.

@@thevalkyrie8 He did grow a distaste for the show for awhile, there’s rumours that fans did something really inappropriate to him at some point and it made things worse, he was constantly asked about his sexuality and was expected to be an outrageous person which he wasn’t. I read a lot of quotes about it from him and he had a rough go with it. I would like to think the rock persona didn’t get to his head and he was just having a hard time and that’s why he tore the poster. Fans didn’t respect him the way they should have and he was sort of just thrust into the spotlight, he genuinely seems like a nice guy.

He doesn't HATE it, he just doesn't want to be typecast as one character. It kills EVERY actor when they have a character they portrayed, then can't escape it. Tim Curry, Cheech Marin, Sean Connery, Richard O'Brien (Played Riff Raff in RHPS and wrote the original show) are all great actors, but have problems with their "alter egos". He actually once said in an interview that he had alot of fun while playing Frank for those 3 years (1973-1975).

The genius of Frankie is that Tim decided upon Jim Sharman's advice to ape a Belgravia, London /Kensington/ Chelsea) girl accent ' a gel' as it were, those types who are quite lovely, with good hearts and breeding, as rich as Croesus yet resoundingly, often charmingly dense.

Saw him again in 79 when he came back on tour in a larger theaters for Fearless. Sad that a stroke in 2012 left him so debilitated, but he was and will always be one of my all time faves. Tim...you do the rock!!

+Gary Helsinger those shows in Philly were awesome. He sang this song sitting on the edge of the stage at the TLA. The next tour in 79 was so hot! Tim had his hair grown out again and the band was incredible. Loved Richard Wagner's guitar...and the sax work was awesome. Wished he'd continued to record music...

I do remember him sitting on the stage while singing I'm Going Home at the TLA! Was that the night someone threw computer punch cards that said "Sorrow" and "Pain" on them or was that just a showing of the movie one night? In '79 the show was at the Schubert Theater, right?
