What a savage series. Some people say Ginobili should have been the MVP, but Duncan matched his stats going against on the greatest defenses ever, and one of the greatest defensive front duos. Tim Duncan. Pure alpha.

Honestly can say GREATEST PLAYER I’ve ever seen at his POSITION; does EVERYTHING a coach / teammate needs depending on the situation !! Has many “Go To” moves that can vary based on tempo & game feel ….and don’t forget his BALL HANDLINGN& DEFENSIVE nightmares as a matchup against anybody 😏

Just so you know kids, GoaTD was playing two bad ankles he sprained badly during the season including a recent one in round 2 against the deceased Supersonics. And don't let his FG% mislead you, he got a lot of offensive rebounds off of his misses and he was almost always double teamed by arguably one of the best defensive frontline duos of all time

Just check out how much elevation Duncan had on all his moves in the video. Detroit could probably have won if they had force-fed Sheed on offense because Duncan couldn't contest his jump shot at all. But Sheed wasn't about that kind of responsibility.

@J B As a Hispanic Belgian American I was rooting for Ginobili but in the end the challenge that Duncan had to overcome was much greater and there's no denying that his offensive rebounds and overall presence in the paint made it possible for the Spurs to win the championship that year.

@@losswutang5456 First 4 games were blowouts, after that Tim shot 45%. Detroit had the best defense in the league and not only that, with McDyess and the Wallaces the best rim protectors by far. Their weakness was on the 2 spot, something that Ginobili with all his experience but less talent exploited, an assignment that Kobe failed at in the previous finals because of the brewing feud with Shaq. Duncan also grabbed plenty offensive rebounds and just by himself nearly matched the total number of rebounds by both Wallaces.

Back in the day when every point mattered and a 7 to a 10 point lead was huge... When defense was Paramount. I prefer that to the crazy offense of today where you can't even touch the guy.

nba decided that scoring is more important for tv ratings purposes and viewership. you cant really blame them for it even though its kind of sad. NBA is competing against nfl, mlb and whatever you guys call the hockey league, so i guess they are making all their decision into getting more marketshare.

People who call his style of play boring need to stop smoking crack. It’s just beautiful basketball. You give it to Timmy in the post and that’s a for sure bucket. Prime Duncan was automatically 1st team all nba and I’m sorry did I forget to mention he was also a defensive monster. Basically a automatic 1st team all defense in his prime. They need to start respecting Tim !

Not only did T.D. destroy the Pistons in the paint, he did it against arguably one of the greatest defensive centers of all-time (Big Ben was at the very least the greatest defensive center of the decade by miles). Sheed wasn't a bad defender himself, but Duncan schooled him like he was a kid.

Tim was lighting teams up back then too, and would do in any era I believe. He never had big name free agents in San Antonio, Jason Kidd among others refused to play for the Spurs, their biggest acquisition was Richard Jefferson and he never embraced the team culture. Imagine Tim getting paired with Oscar Robertson during the 70s, or Drexler during the 80s, prime Robinson during the 90s, ...

@@losswutang5456look how many offensive rebounds Duncan got off of his owned missed shots. They didn't do their job good enough. Keeping him from missing his first shot means nothing when he's right there for his own put back. That's call hustle and determination against a juggernaut defense on 2 sprained ankles and planter faschitis. Duncan was a beast which is why they kept swarming him and not double teaming ginobili

Duncan was still dominant and the best player. Except Parker in the finals where he went off but regular season and the playoffs he was by far the best spur
