No-voiceover timestamps for each pickup voicing SCOTT 3:08 bridge voice 1 (vintage PAF) 3:37 bridge voice 2 (classic hot rod) 3:45 bridge voice 3 (slightly overwound single coil) 4:09 neck voice 1 (vintage PAF) 4:28 neck voice 2 (clear, airy chime) 4:42 neck voice 3 (vintage single coil) TIM 6:54 bridge voice 1 (hot-rodded classic) 7:28 bridge voice 2 (unique humbucker) 7:51 neck & bridge voice 3 (ideal single coil combo) 8:09 neck voice 1 (thick & smooth humbucker) 8:45 neck voice 2 (clean nylon surrogate) 8:58 neck voice 3 (fluid single coil) Quick notes for those who are still confused: on SCOTT's guitar, the voicing switch essentially toggles between 3 different pickup voicings: 2x vintage PAF humbuckers, clear chime neck + classic hot rod bridge and 2x vintage single coils. The pickup selector switch only toggles individual pickups on and off (neck only, both pickups, bridge only), for a total of 9 possible configurations. The 3 middle position voicings aren't shown in the video for the sake of brevity, but you can probably guess how they sound based on the other individual demos TIM's pickups are a bit more convoluted: the 3-way voicing switch is replaced by a 2-way knob, but the selector switch goes from a 3-way to a 5-way one, partially doubling up as a voicing switch as well. Pushing/pulling the knob while the selector switch is in the neck position toggles between neck voices 1 (thick & smooth hum) and 2 (nylon), whereas doing so while in the bridge position toggles between bridge voices 1 (hot-rodded) and 2 (unique). Middle position, knob down = voice 1 for both pickups (not shown in the video), much like on Scott's guitar. So far so good, but this is where the fun begins: since neck voice 2 is sonically incompatible with bridge voice 2 (nylon vs synthy) pulling the knob UP while in middle position triggers the 3rd voicing for both pickups (= single coil combo). The same voicing can be triggered by switching to selector position 2, regardless of the knob (and yeah, this effectively makes the 2nd position "useless", but I suppose 4-way switches aren't really a thing). Lastly, selector position 4 always defaults to neck voice 3 (= fluid single coil), bypassing the knob once again. This amounts to a total of 7 possible voicings (2 in pos 1, 3 and 5 each, 1 in pos 4, none in pos 2). In other words, there are de facto less possible combinations on Tim's guitar overall, albeit most of them are more individually unique than those on Scott's

Super helpful breakdown! This might be a dumb question, but when you say "Useless," you're just saying two different positions have basically the same sound, not that no sound comes from it right?

I have purchased the Fluence Signature Series Tim Henson Pickups, in fact, it can achieve 9 different sounds using a 3-way switch and 2 Push-Pull potentiometers, which makes it more intuitive to use and similar to other past Fishman Fluence pickup designs. The two single-coils together sound really great, and I can understand why they didn't make the bridge single-coil work alone on default 5-way switch, it sounds a bit harsh, but at least now I can choose whether or not to use it. However, I'm not quite sure why they didn't add a voice 2 for dual humbuckers. It doesn't sound bad, maybe it's because it would make the circuit too complicated or the sound would not be unique enough. By the way, the voice 2 sound is basically just brighter but loses some of its power, the official website also mentions that the peak frequency moves toward the treble.

@@carlchameleon9847 They just look like every other pickup. They look the same as a $20 pickup you get from china and pretty much everything else. Fishman, Bare Knuckle and EMG are some of the few companies whose pickups actually stand out a bit. He mentioned in the demo posted by Reverb that he wanted it to look as sleek and clean as possible, but these look a lot more cluttered than the minimalist Fishman covers....so maybe it wasn't possible to have them on the open core pickups for some reason, I don't know...

@@Return2TheLiving actually, Ibanez stopped producing the THBB10 so it’s a moot point. You’d have to either buy that guitar model used or find a dealer with them in still stock. I know Sweetwater pulled the listing from their site months ago, shortly after the new signature guitars were announced. The new signature electric guitars will come with the sig Fluence pickups you just saw in this vid.
