I was a former Protestant , I enjoyed the teaching of the Gospel reading the Bible , fellowship, prayer, music....But while attending after time i noticed people continually knock against the Catholic Church....but it dawned on me ....i think this was the 1st Church.... (did research) eventually....left ......in the year 1999 started coming back & converted....got married and started to study and committ ...now 20 years on and going STRONG AMEN!!

By the way, I am a former Protestant Christian but I am now Catholic as there is overwhelming evidence of the Catholic Church as being the Church Christ put on this Earth. From the writings of the early Christians of the 1st century, people who were followers and students of the very Apostles of Christ themselves! You will find that they believed in many teachings that look identical to the teachings of the Catholic Church. People like Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp, Clement of Rome, and Justin the Martyr are just a few early Christians who preached the word of God and some who followed even the apostles and even died for their faith that Christ is the Son of God and the Catholic Church is the True Church

By the way, we Catholics do not worship Mary. We see her as the greatest example to follow. She is like the moon and Christ like the sun, the moon can’t make its own light, only the sun can but with the light of the sun (Christ), the moon can shine very brightly and beautifully. When we pray to Mary, we do not pray to her because we believe she is a goddess or because she is divine, rather we pray to her to ask for her intercession, that she may pray for us as her prayers are the most effectual that exist as she is the most righteous creature God has ever created (Christ isn’t the most righteous creature God has ever created because Christ is God, so he was never created and always existed and only became incarnated into the world but never created.)

So, I would understand this as a prohibition against pride because of the following: 23:3-So practice and observe what they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach but do not practice. Talking about hypocrisy. So we are not to practice what they do. These practices to avoid are explained later. 23:5-They do all their deeds to be seen by men This is why they wore long tassels on their robes, they were a symbol of being clean and following Torah. Do not make yourself the center of attention in order to get applause. 23:6-7 expounds on further similar practices to be avoided. The passage is a prohibition against trying to be exalted by the things you do for your own benefit. Thus, “... the whoever exalts himself will be humbled.” So the Catholic viewpoint is that you should not desire toward a title so as to receive adulation. So do not desire to be called Rabbi because there is only one real teacher. Perhaps an example about what I mean-you may be married but this is only a pale reflection of the only marriage there is-Christ and his church. Your marriage is acceptable to God because in sacrifice and love you show Christ’s relationship to the church which leads to your sanctification (EPH 5:25-26). Likewise, there is only one high priest which is Jesus, and being a part of the body of Christ we have a participation (oikonomia) in the priesthood of Christ, hence all believers are priests. The point being that as members of the body of Christ we can only teach, mentor, and guide those new in the face due to our participation with Christ because we are not priests or kings in our own right but all the power of the church flows through the perfect sacrifice that was Christ. So do not aspire to offices for praise of yourself because you’re not a legitimate priest believer or father or teacher without a unity with the body of Christ because in seeking attention we attempt to make ourselves our own god by trying to usurp what is God’s. So who are we not to call father? First our prideful self and secondly hypocrites. That being said I would just point out a few spriptures: 1) Stephen calls Jewish priests father- “And Stephen said: "Brothers and fathers, hear me. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,” Acts‬ ‭7:2‬ ‭(ESV‬‬) 2) Paul calls himself a spiritual father- “For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father* in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭4:15‬ (ESV) *An idiom. Literally, “I have begotten you” 3) Paul calling himself father (again)- “I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment.” ‭‭Philemon‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭(ESV)

Many Popes have allowed their personal opinions to cloud their judgement and confuse their reason. Luckily, the Deposit of Faith and ACTUAL Catholic Doctrine isn’t subject to change quite so easily. You should perhaps investigate Saint Catherine of Siena. She was largely responsible for causing Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome from Avignon. Dissent among the faithful is not forbidden. Rather, it has historically been a source of clarification and this clarification has allowed the Doctrines to be further solidified. Hence, the 2000+ year history of the Catholic Faith on earth.

It’s amazing to me how Protestants whose theologies have only existed decades to a few hundred years (and whose rejection of doctrines like prohibition of contraception and Marian dogmas) is newer than even the initial Protestant splits claim they know better than thousands of years of church tradition and history.
