Got the Timber X and the First generation Turbo. In my opinion the X has the wider flight envelope and it almost cries out for you to push it but... it will get you into trouble fast if you drop off the edge of that envelope because by then you will be doing something pretty darn crazy! The Turbo is a more sedate plane and doesn't tempt me to fly it in such a crazy manner. I still cant figure out which can fly the slowest but I remember one time flying the Turbo off the sea in SAFE mode when I had the plane flying round so slowly it defied belief. If I could only have one I would chose the X simply because it can do everything the Turbo can and more but the Turbo in this new red scheme (which is a HUGE improvement over the original blue) is a more 'scale' looking plane.

They're both excellent planes designed for different things, however I'll agree that the Timber X is just a bit more fun whereas the Turbo Timber is more laid back and better for just cruising

I know the X has its haters but honestly in every KZbin video I have watched it comes across as the most maneuverable and capable Timber so far. It always seems to turn more tightly and land in less runway too and this bares out my own experience comparing it with our 1st generation Turbo Timber. The Turbo is a great plane but (in my own view) its a bit of a lumbering beast compared to the more agile X and yet the X can seem to do all the STOL stuff just as well as the Turbo.

I actually ended up selling my Turbo Timber, I just found it a bit boring in honesty. Ended up buying a Maule and I think it's the best of the bunch, overall I think it flies and looks the best out of all of Eflites Bush planes and is still very capable while remaining scale. I may do a review on it
@jjs3287 Жыл бұрын
@@downunderrc5207 l had a Maule and I agree that as a scale bush plane its the best in terms of looks and scale STOL flying. Sadly I sold mine in a moment of madness as I was running out of space and trying to decide which plane to fly was driving me crazy. Nice problem to have but not good for my slightly autistic brain when i have to let objects go Our 1st generationTurbo Timber now lives on floats for which it is perfect and strangely looks more believable too than it did on wheels even though its obviously not a scale plane but....it only remains in our fleet because of the memories I have now built with it and to avoid the sense of loss if I sold it. You should definitely review the Maule.

Personally we think they fly worse with the slats, nowhere near as aerobatic and just a bit more sloppy. They are still plenty STOL without the slats though

Which one do you think is a faster plane the Timber X or the Turbotimber evolution? Just as far as all out speed on 4s.
@downunderrc52072 жыл бұрын
Definitely the Timber X. Shorter wingspan and 2 blade prop help it out with speed. Turbo Timber is more meant for cruising and not so much all out speed.

@@downunderrc5207 ok. Just know my little Turbo timber UMX is pretty dang fast. Was looking at getting either the timber X or the turbo timber evolution. I thought the three blade prop was one of the reasons my little UMX is so fast

I am a fairly new pilot who picked up the Timber X because it was recently on sale at HH....I am interested in its slow flight characteristics and STOL flight........ hoping to tame it down a bit by using 50% rates on all ...got any other flight tips?....... thanks
@downunderrc52072 жыл бұрын
That's awesome, I think you'll really enjoy it. As long as you dont fly it too hard it'll treat you fine, and with the rates toned down I don't think it'll be hard for you to fly at all. Only suggestion would be don't land it too hard as it can rip out the undercarriage on a hard landing, other than that it's a great plane and I think you'll like it 👍

@@downunderrc5207 understood..I bought a brace ( 3D made ) to help strengthen up this area, as I have heard the stories about the Timbers main gear being a weak spot...thanks much for the reply
@jjs3287 Жыл бұрын
Probably a bit late but I found it best to make sure you are in low rates when switching from SAFE back into AS3X on this one as it can be quite a contrast compared to (say) my clipped wing cub that I hardly notice the change with. I have the 1st generation Turbo as well and in my experience the X is every bit as good at the bush flying stuff as that one. In fact our Turbo now lives on floats as the X is a far more manageable size to transport for regular flying and a more capable all round plane. Hope you got on with it as well.

@jjs32872 жыл бұрын
@@downunderrc5207 I can understand that. My first generation Turbo lives on floats nowadays as I found the plane just a little bit too cumbersome for every day flying. Even in your video the X out shone the Evo pretty clearly. In a moment of madness I recently sold my X and this quickly became a huge regret, especially as I dont have the luxury of a paved runway which makes owning things I would really love to fly ike Extras and Ultimates very risky. Will probably buy another X as I cant think of another plane that is such a good all rounder, truly mild to wild.
@downunderrc52072 жыл бұрын
I fly off a grass runway and fly my Extra fine actually, its actually really capable on grass and has never even come close to nosing over. I can land my FMS Dago Red and my Dynam Corsair on the grass without nosing over too. You'd be surprised how well most planes can land on grass, I'd definitely recommend trying some other planes out, such as an extra.

@@downunderrc5207 Thanks, you are right of course. I got into bush planes to take advantage of the tiny field I have access to on my doorstep as I am not a club member and the UK is a small crowded place and even though it has big private and public spaces, they are either completely out of bounds or VERY restricted. I do need to break my Timber obsession though. Might try an E flite pitts 850mm. Not too big but capable.
