Fantastic video Matt! You have a great balance of detail without information overload in these explanations. If you have the time when you get the motor back in the sled, I would love to see you do a quick crash course on clutch tuning. I've been having a bear of a time getting the dog style clutch on my 72 399e to play nice.

I appreciate the feedback and I am glad you are enjoying. I am trying to have a balance of info and entertainment… I’m by no means a clutch specialist, but if I have to make some tweaks when I get the engine running, I’ll definitely include it in the video. Take care!

I had a 68 opposed when I was a teenager. When it ran it was snappy. But he was very finicky and I could never get it to run well or run consistently. In retrospect it probably needed to be resealed, and my constant fiddling with the carburetor probably messed it up worse. So many of those engines as you know where ruined when they got rainwater whatever down the carburetor throat while they sat. I don't know what things go for in your part of Canada, but I recently saw a complete engine non-running go for $350 US at a swap meet in Minnesota.

Yeah, I am lucky to have found a few without water damage in the carb cylinder… Everyone I speak with tells me the same thing, they were very unreliable. I guess I will have to see for myself when I get a few running. The only running one I had was on my 68 Alpine, and it stopped working last year. I guess that was to be expected! As for the price, they do tend to be on the high side when it comes to non-racing two cylinders. As an example, I picked up a clean, complete but seized engine for $220 CAD last year. I have seen them in shows get sold for $450CAD, so yeah, they are definitely worth a bit.

One piston port for 2 cylinders. First time I see that.

Yup… Old school technology! There was a prototype version of this engine with piston port cylinders on both sides. Dual carbs… A little overkill for such a small engine!

Bought it about 15 years ago. It was mint condition, so I paid the very high for the time price of 1200$ CAD!!! I’m glad I did though! I used it a little that winter and it hasn’t ran since… Going to get it going for next season for sure. Stay tuned for that video!!!
