a year later and it's still working fine, I think it's one of the best options for repairing damaged threads

Just use an M10 x 1.25 Helicoil kit. Just drill 13/32 bit or 3/8 ( 12/32 ) size and tap the hole with the tap provided in the kit and install the Helicoil. Perfect fit and will torque over 33lbs as required by Honda. I drilled a 1-inch hole through the inner panel to align with the bolt hole on the front of the engine. Afterward, I installed a 1inch bolt to secured the drilled hole.

M10 x 1.25 Helicoil kit works fine, drill a 1" hole through the inner panel in front of the hole for access. A straight-in shot for the repairs. Afterward, install a one inch bolt from the hole drilled.

FYI I was able to get at this hole on the car by pulling the drivers side mount, front mount, rear mount and putting a jack under the transmission and another jack under the oil pan. If I had the luxury of the pulling the engine to do it I would have just to be 100% sure I was going in totally straight with a level drill - but I did not have that luxury. I'll post in about 6 months and let ya'll know if the repair held up OK. I used Helicoil 5543-10 M10 x 1.25 Metric Fine Thread Repair Kit.

@spelunkerd same here in the U.S. I couldn't find a local retailer for time sert so I had to order the kit online. Another thing to consider is that these kits are more expensive than a helicoil kit. I think it is worth the extra money for certain applications such as spark plug threads and head bolt threads.

Lock tight on that insert will prevent it from coming out later

The first tap wrench is a craftsman, the 2nd tap wrench is a kobalt. All the bits in the time-sert kit have square shanks including the drill bit.

I've come across this problem 05 Honda Civic EX. My thoughts were to take a hole saw and cut a hole out of underneath the wheel well. to give me a straight shot into the tensioner pulley hole. Your thoughts on this? I am by far not a mechanic i worked on cars on my whole life. . Everything was going great until I took out the old tensioner and noticed the threads came with it. LOL I knew I was in trouble I picked up a fix a thread 10 by 1.5 figured it would give me a little bit more bit? anyone thoughts and comments would be a great help. Thank you for taking the time to make this video

Up here in Canada I don't seem to be able to find Timeserts, though Helicoils are easily available. The timeserts seem better, though I've never used them before.
@grjr12 жыл бұрын
You'll want to use the updated bolt. I can tell you that the old bolt that you DO NOT want to use is 51 mm or 2" long measured from the bottom of the head to the end of the threads. I don't have a measurement on the new bolt, I don't have one to measure at this time.

You might be able to do it if you can tilt the front of the engine high or low enough to clear the body to do the repair but I don't think you could tilt the motor enough without risking breaking a cv boot, motor mount or something else. The timing belt area is very tight on these cars.

02 Elantra......Anyone know what torque limit should be on this Helicoil's on a Timing Belt tensioner pulley Bolt which calls for 38Ft pound will these Helicoils hold up to 38 Ft of torque

Do you have the link to where you bought the time sert kit?
@grjr12 жыл бұрын
Did you originally use a heli-coil and now want to use a time-sert? iirc, Time-sert makes a kit specifically for use after a failed heli-coil repair. Check out their website for all the solutions they offer.

how do you remove the helicoil out if it doesn't work good? im going to try to rethread and using a bigger bolt this time since i already thread it once.
@bervotten11 жыл бұрын
Do you know if its important to secure the tensioner bolt to 33ft lbs? On my 01 ex I replaced the timing belt, but the old tensioner bolt stripped the threads. Got the upgraded bolt from dealer and placed it in without re threading, it's holding but don't know if it will cause problems down the road.
@grjr11 жыл бұрын
Are you tightening it down by hand or torquing to spec? The tensioner bolt is a critical component, if you loose your timing belt tension you can bend valves and then you're looking at pulling the head off
@bervotten11 жыл бұрын
grjr The first time I torque it to spec, but then I took it off to clean the area of gunk and coolant. Second time I torque it was not locking, than I knew something was wrong. Took the original screw out with shavings from the block, later I learned through your video and others that honda recommends an upgraded bolt, so I did and installed it with the damage already done to the block threads. It is tighten all the way now but not to specs. Feels pretty secure, I just don't think the threads can be repaired without removing the engine. It has ABS so the space for the area is even more limited for the heli coil.
@grjr11 жыл бұрын
hvac caldera I believe someone else in the comments section was able to repair the threads in his block with the engine still in the car but I don't know if his car had ABS or not. When I was working on this car I had a similar experience. The original bolt came out with threads from the block. When I put in the new updated bolt I tried tightening it to spec with a torque wrench and it didn't have enough threads left to be able to tighten it down. I can't say if your bolt will hold or not, but one thing is for sure if it doesn't hold the cost to repair will be great.

What is the UPGRADED timing belt tensioner bolt part number? www.pohankahondaparts.com/v-2005-honda-civic-sedan--lx--4-speed-automatic/engine--camshaft-timing-belt This shows two part numbers for same bolt #12 on the diagram. Also this link shows s7d9.scene7.com/is/content/GenuinePartsCompany/1532698pdf?$PDF$ updated bolt only needed on 2001-2003 civics correct? So 2004-05 just need original bolt and correct torque.
