Since you are adding inconsequential forward thrust from the engine fan, you might as well have the engine exhaust be straight pipes out the back to double the inconsequential forward thrust. Or you could have the exhaust pipes turn down so the inconsequential thrust would make the Bombi slightly lighter under load. BTW - I'm a retired mechanical engineer so I really appreciate these types of discussions.

Lookin' good! Suggest two things: 1) Rubber isolation mount the radiator - aluminium has very poor fatigue resistance and will crack in short order; and 2) Make the engine top panel and frame a bolt-on removable piece for future mechanical access.

Awesome stuff as usually. A little thought about the exhaust. I'd probably go for stacks or a boring downwards solution, just to avoid getting exhaust fumes in the face when working behind the vehicle and also to avoid getting burned. Stacks would probably enable you to shorten the exhaust inside the compartment and get some of that heat out of there earlier. I'm not an expert by any means, just seems like a really bad place to have exhaust blasting out for your particular use. Thanks for sharing your shenanigans with us.

There are 100s of different Rivnuts with as many other names, some are extremely strong and will hold anything you require. The secret is to research and check the numerous types and materials. Once you get good ones, buy in bulk because they can quickly vanish from the market. The rule of thumb is if they are steel then the smallest tool you will need for setting is the one Matt is using, although there are wrench (spanner) setting tools. The types do not all require round holes. Use the correct one for the thickness of the material and its use. Love the Bombi work best. But I do watch everything. It is nice to see the old fella enjoying the twilight years, well done for taking the time and loyalty to include him.

I say stacks for exhaust up the corners of the cab. Put a chrome heat shield around it OR black, and you will keep the bends to a minimal for the exhaust. At the tips, I'd do a 45 bend that is angled 45 degrees out from the body and finish it off with a vertical cut straight down. That way you can easily work around the bombee while its running and not worry about getting exhaust in your face and it would look really cool, and tough.

4:15 A heads up for Tom et al on the drill press. Keyless chucks are awesome, but they have a shortcoming. They can’t handle the torque of larger diameter cutters. You can bury a straight shank bit as hard as you want, but anything with a necked down shank, like S&D bits or a hole saw can make the chuck lock up solid if you go too hard. I keep a keyed chuck to change out for sketchy purposes.

7:37 .. the steel ones are great, and they’ve been around a while. In my time as a Millwright, I have seen them used multiple times on equipment and machinery directly from the manufacturer. I Think (I am sure.) you need to limit the fan power. That fan, without a clutch or being a flex fan, will draw many HP at high RPM. (Over 20 HP possible. Also the extra wear on the accessory bearings is no joke.) Also, Tom will have to play with tuning a lot as the Engine Compartment Pressure WILL be lower causing Reference to Atmosphere to be wrong. This can be compensated for but gets tricky. (Think about how enclosed the engine area really is.) I just had to mention this.... Finally, All of you guys are great and thanks for the videos. I have actually seen most of them. Good Job!

Thought, would it be cool to use an old bell helicopter window in the front of the bomb-bee?

I reckon going in the diagonal from the back of the rear quarters to the radiator frame extension would clean up the look on the rear a ton. Looks kinda like lego at the moment. Gonna be a beast, can't wait to see Bombi 2.0 in action!

I love that Matt's kids are involved in working in the garage, but I think everyone would benefit from taking a welding class at the local community college or tech school. The kids have some welding experience and are at the perfect age to absorb the theory and know how to apply it because of their experience.

Not sure what your final plans are for the bed. You may want grip tape or texture on it. I just see it being super slippery in winter when it’s wet.

Engine heat should keep it clear of snow/ice. Maybe wet

Hi Guys! Food for thought. The way you have the side panels set up might suck alot of snow thrown from the tracks into the engine compartment and cause issues when the melted snow freezes. I have seen this happen on a similar design. They had to make a baffle system so that the snow was deflected down. It was interesting.

7:20 People were saying the rivnuts wouldn't work?! I have a feeling those people never used them before. They are amazing little things that make life so much easier. Not to mention they look nice and clean when your project is done.
