I work in line as a turn bid driver for ABF. Why do I enjoy watching someone else do my job? Because it’s entertaining, that’s why!
@MrSbigden6 ай бұрын
I gave up trucking in 1980 because of some of what you mention. I saw too many trucking companies fold up leaving guys that were in their 50's and even in their 60's that, without a job. Some had been with those companies for many years. Then you have to factor in the low man on the totem pole thing. There were times when I would sit at home for weeks without working because I was the new guy.. It's hard to raise a family like that. So after about 10 years or so I left trucking and became a Policeman in Chicago which was my dream job since I was a little boy. Best of luck to you and I hope it all works out for the best. I really enjoyed your videos.

Sounds like a good plan to me and hopefully when you come back from the border freight volume will be back up. I think long term ABF is a great career and sometimes it only takes one or two spots on the board to make a huge difference in how much you work. My first year at UPS in 2002 I was laid off 7 months and then after that I never missed another day. I started professionally driving with CF in the late 80’s and still enjoy trucking and will retire with a reasonable pension when I no longer enjoy it. Good luck with your decision.

I’m in the same boat. Been at ups for 2.5 years hired off the street as a sleeper team driver. 40 drivers below me no work besides dock. 30 above me same situation. Not a complete layoffGotta load trailers now probably til atleast March. But I might adventure to Wally World. Im trying to keep my ups job but Wally World is almost recession proof. They can kick out all their outside carriers if it gets slow and when people are broke they shop at Wally World. Also they hire all the time in Colorado.

Stay with ABF! I know it can be tough until you gain enough seniority. Every man on top of your board was right where you are at one time. Hang in there, ABF is a great company. Your company is providing alot of benefits that others dont get or they are not comparable. Don't be fooled by the bs out there. I ran on the Sacramento board many years until I retired. Best outfit I ever worked for. Just do your time and soon enough you can relax a little knowing they'll work your butt into the ground. Take care and stay positive, It'll all work out.

I just recently left the post office and got on with the highway department with ILLINOIS TOLLWAY. I got lucky much better wages and benefits. I'm done with LTL and hope to retire in 10 years. I feel horrible for all of my union brothers who are hurting.. You need to do what's right for you. @2Brandec6 ай бұрын
It’ll pick up in the spring. ABF is a great company but you’re better off working out of the biggest terminals, such as Atlanta, GA, Dayton, OH or Carlisle, PA. Those 3 terminals are the only ones I know of that don’t have any drivers laid off. Dayton’s road board is well over 200 drivers. That’s where I work. Best thing about that terminal is, because of Ohio’s location, there are a shit ton of runs going all 4 directions.

It’s scandalous, you guys are having to take the table scraps from senior drivers. And you’re all paying union dues. If you do decide to get back into trucking I suggest finding an otr company. There’s no shortage of freight where I’m at, the rates aren’t what they were a couple years ago but I’m still taking home over $2k/week.
@scottowens84746 ай бұрын
F the OTR crap. You can make 2k a week running local or terminal to terminal. And it's not scandalous they're taking the runs the senior drivers don't want. THATS HOW SENIORITY BOARD WORKS AT UNION COMPANIES. If he wants to stay in LTL terminal to terminal I would suggest OD (Old Dominion) good company good Benny's good pay. Keep you moving. At least my friend Eric likes it A LOT!!
