2023 - Repairs $17,604, Maintenance $1,828, Sales Tax and Shop Supplies $996, Fuel $10,458, Accessories and Insurance $3,600 = $34,483 which is about 17K less than last year. I have found a good per mile amont to budget is about $1.50 per mile (this changes with fuel prices, last year I used #2 per mile.).

Good topic but nobody mentions. When not using your RV if you have to store it. We have a 44.5 foot toy hauler that is stored indoors on our property if we had to pay for that, it would roughly be 300+ a month. It’s a 2011 and looks like new.

Last year I took a two week vacation from STL to the Black Hills of South Dakota. This trip cost me less then $4,000 total. I ate in restaurants, nice motels to top notch lodges and cabins, did all the best tourist attractions: chuckwagon dinners, 1880 Train, Buffalo Tour, Saloon floor shows, and traveled the best scenic backroads. I never once had to make a bed, wash a dish, or clean my bathroom. I was driving a four door sedan. How many of these enjoyable vacations can I take for the cost of the $160,000 unit? Answer: 40. This does not include the fuel cost for the behemouth and RV campground fees. A full service RV spot will frequently cost more nightly than an inexpensive motel. Then, as in the case of the Black Hills, if you RV camp in the large campgrounds you will often find yourself crammed into what I refer to as the "Zoo." (Note the background of this video.) If you do, you are now stuck there unless you bring along your own car, the one you should have used and saved yourself $156,000. I would not want to drive a large vehicle on the best two roads in the Blacks Hills: Iron Mountain Road and The Needles Highway.

It is my hobby in retirement. Keeping track of what I could have spent to have a repair done and what I did it for. Since Covid I love having my own bed bathroom kitchen and beyond. My trips in the winter from CA to the desert to boon dock is priceless! Your videos have saved me some money so Thank You very much! Blessings John T

Thanks for sharing. It might be clearer if you categorize expenses into annual and amortized. For example, the tires should last 5 years, so divide the cost by 5, yes you need to pay 100% at the time but can sway your numbers. Another is proactive maintenance, like oil changes and the slide adjustments. If you show repair costs, it’s likely to increase as an RV ages. Overall a great job, just tips on clarity.

We have a 26’ travel trailer, average fuel cost around $2,500. We go from Oklahoma to Florida and back, also from Oklahoma to New Mexico and return plus several shorter trips. We bought an extended warranty that covers about anything that goes wrong, and there is no deductible if repairs are made at dealership where the warranty was purchased.

I had alot of things looked at and fixed this year... and I am still getting things taken care of next year. Next year 8 batteries need replaced, not that they are bad but they are hitting that 5 year mark. Another informative video.

Do you have a new camera? Video looks great! Yep, lots of money for an RV. The 6 new Toyos, installed for under $4k is good. We paid slightly more for our also 6 new Toyo tires bought this year, I think they drive great! In MI we pay $1800 for RV insurance, $734 MI license registration for our 2017 Newmar Canyon Star. New Jersey insurance cost seems very high. Yep, it easily adds up to 10K for me in 2023. At least no new tires for the next 5-6 years. Great, informative video, thanks!

I have talked with people who were shocked when I told them how much we budget just for maintaining our RV. I budget $1500 a year just for tires. My oil changes cost a lot because I have a huge diesel and can spend over $7000 just for oil changes and filters on both the engine and generator. Then there is the oasis system. We budget $1500 a month for all of this. When you add in fuel, insurance, campgrounds, and other related expenses, we probably around $24000 a year.

If able, look into DIY maintenance. My cost for oil and filter on both is easily less than $700! A complete rebuild on my Hurricane (similar to Oasis) with fluid change is around $250. You can RV on the cheap. We have a small towable RV. I do all the repairs and maintenance myself. Our biggest expense is tires and batteries about every 4yrs. We dry camp at state and federal parks. RVing helps keeping me sane. Already had the truck so I don't count that as an expense. We keep it very basic which how we live anyway.

THANKFULLY our costs have been much less than yours partially because we usually only put on about 3K miles a year and also thankfully have not had nearly as much costs in repairs (knocking on wood and crossing fingers). So totally we are around $5k. Not a yearly expense of course but a BIG one of having the RV is all the stuff you have to add to the RV to be able to use it and/or make it better than it was when delivered. As Big Blue sits here now we are just under $30K. Of course the biggest part of that is the Liquid Spring suspension (but so worth it). But on top of that you add up all the things in the bays, cabinets, and drawers that don't come with the RV that IS needed to use the RV and that pushes the $30K mark.

I have a 450HP diesel pusher and put 5000-6000 mi a year on it. $5000 in fuel average. I use a discount card (Open Roads)for diesel fuel and that helps a lot. I budget $3500 for general maintenance. It depends on what needs to be performed every year. Sometimes lees sometimes more. We travel to Red Bay, AL once a year for that. Labor is much cheaper there to get maintenance and repairs performed. Tires are around a $5000- $6000 expense every 5-6 years. My insurance is $4300/yr in Texas. Almost doubled over a 3 year period. Insurance is going to drive a lot of people out of owning a motorhome.

We have a 2004 Itasca Sunrise gas coach and have traveled just under 4K so far this year. The cost of insurance, fuel, upkeep and general maintenance was $5,481. Thankfully, we didn't have any unexpected mechanical issues so I was able to do all our routine maintenance this year which made our cost of ownership fairly reasonable.. We did add a tow bar and the necessary equipment for our new "toad" this year which was just under $2,300, and was a one time purchase not included in our overall cost.

We have a fifth wheel we bought, barely used, in 2021: 2018 Columbus 1492, so it's not the base model. However, we saved many thousands over buying new. We've already had our tow vehicle for years, so that's been paid off: 2004 F350 Super Duty. Bulleproofed it when we bought it 11 years ago, tuned as well. $$ We have no desire to upgrade the old truck. We know what we have and that it's been maintained. So our camper payment is $280 a month (I send $325 every month though), and we had a downpayment of $8500. We mostly camp at a municipal owned campground not far from hubby's work: $30/night w/ full hookups and close to everything we could need. Our lack of going to other campgrounds comes down to convenience and trying to keep costs down. We can take extended camping trips when we stay close to hubby's work. I'm a school van driver and have off summers. Hubby takes the camper along with him to work on the day we are leaving, then we meet at the campground after his work. He works an "at will" second job, so sometimes he takes off for there and I finish setup. This arrangement keeps costs down plus allows us to camp longer than a weekend here and there, and we like it this way. With diesel fuel being costly this past season we did not travel to other campgrounds, but hopefully next year we will. Plus you have to schedule state park campgrounds well in advance in PA and we just didn't have extra funds due to veterinary bills. Our insurance is under $500/yr. for $60k in coverage. We did have to buy batteries when we bought the fifth wheel, and we bought golf cart batteries. $$ Also bought a solar panel array to keep the batteries topped off, but something is wrong with the built in "plug and play" charging system. I cook everything. We have a full size fridge and great pantry. I bought whatever camping items I could find at the consignment and thrift stores, then bought the rest new. This is how we manage to keep costs down. There is a state park near us that offers free boondocking, but they don't keep low hanging limbs cut back, so that's out. I wish we had more boondocking choices.

My automatic yearly expense for our 5th wheel toy hauler is $1,200. I take it back to the CW in Swedesboro NJ where I purchased it from for a full service and going over plus a Seal Tech test. For that money they inspect, test and service all the major components and repack the wheel bearings and the Seal Tech tests tests for leaks. Outside of that I dont have to spend much, especially becuase I routinely go over the whole thing myself anytime I am with the unit. Only other big expense was re-sealing the roof. For whatever reason Keystone is cheap with the dicor on the roof so I had it re done to the tune of $1,400 but it should last now for years with regular maintenance. Next big expense will be tires and that is just becuase I dont want the China bombs on there.

Hi Izzy and MJ! Wow! That is costly to have a motorhome. It cost the same amount of insurance for Nelli like it does for our car insurance here in Nevada with just my sister and I. When this year it was way less than next year! We even switched insurance and they said it’s going up in Nevada. It’s sad! But there’s nothing we can do. I know how you feel the expenses. I hate to see you get rid of Nelli. That’s your little baby lol! She’s too cute to get rid of. Hopefully next year it will be better with prices going down on everything. Thank you Izzy and MJ. Give your dogs(puppies) a kiss for me and Nelli too!

Thanks for the honest look into the huge cost associated with RVing... Bob Wells from Cheap RV living claims you can do this lifestyle full time for $ 500 to 600 dollars per month. Obviously the true cost is much higher. Hopefully the revenue from the KZbin channel more than offsets the cost... Do you think the maintenance costs will be this much every single year ? Or is 2023 the most expensive so far in regards to maintenance...
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 9 ай бұрын
2023 was the most expensive due to some big maintenance costs. Years 1-4 were far less. We would expect 2024 to be far less

Gooood video guys!!! Laughing my a$$ off, bcuz of the statement about Virginia - sooo very true!!! Taxes there are waaaay 2 high!!! Sold our house of 25 plus years almost 2 years ago and bought a 5ver and FT now. We literally got around a 25K a year raise after changing our domicile to South Dakota after selling the house. I an retired Navy and still work, so between those two incomes and the property taxes on the house and vehicles, the “commonwealth” of Virginia totally unacceptable. 👍😃🍻

Nothing fun is ever cheap. With these high interest rates. Now isn't a good time for huge dollar purchases. If u didn't get all ur loans consolidated. When we had lower rates. Makes it even more difficult to get by with inflation.
