Selena Gomez is committed to Rare Beauty, she said at the 2024 TIME100 Summit in New York City on Wednesday. Gomez launched the vegan and cruelty free makeup line in Sept. 2020, and it has since amassed a valuation of $2 billion, a figure that led to reports of a potential sale in Rare Beauty’s immediate future.

My mother was schizophrenic. She went back and forth to locked wards. Her various personalities tried to persuade her to kill herself. They hated me and growled when I came. But I loved my mother even though she said horrible things to me. Before she got sick, she took care of her appearance and curled her hair every day and always smelled freshly showered. She was bubbly and happy, she joked and laughed. At the end, there wasn't much dignity left. Brief moments when our eyes met, I recognized her soul. She was in there, but it was like her soul was leaving slowly. She had one foot here and one foot in heaven. I had to let her go, she was trapped in her own body. It feels terrible to say that you mourn someone who sits in front of you like an empty shell. When her body finally gave up, I had finished grieving a long time ago. I was glad she was finally free. Schizophrenia affects all relatives differently. I quickly learned not to try to argue her reality away. As crazy as it was, it was her experience. I respected her but tried to deflect instead. Love to all of you who have a loved one who is mentally ill ❤️

Selena has always been wise beyond her years in the sense of pioneering and leading positive change on a grander scale and on her larger social media platform for mental health, for women supporting women, for being kind to others, for unrealistic beauty standards, for being a multitalented hard worker (producer, company investor, singer, actor, entrepreneur, philanthropist), aiding lupus warriors, etc. so many well known people have followed suit after her. unfortunately, the way tabloids and headlines spin things have caused a fog over every beautiful thing this woman has done and spoken on. But that has NOT stopped the real ones from seeing her heart and supporting this woman! its not about money but she deserves every single penny that makes up her +2 Billion dollar Rare Beauty make up brand.
